- Alright, as of now I will start recording the interview. could you state your ckey?
- ResiToday at 7:09 PM
- Resilynn
- DragoToday at 7:12 PM
- The interview will take about a hour or possible hour and a half deepending how how quick we can get therough it. The interview will have two parts, first are some situational things and the second part will consist of ooc questions and thinks admins have requested be asked in the interview. The powers you as a mod during these situations are as follows
- 1. Access to ingame logs. This includes ALL attack logs. ALL local and antagonist ooc, including deadchat and admin pm’s. You can also send your own admin pms (bwoink)
- 2. The ability to wind players (admin freeze them).
- 3. The ability to boot players of a lower rank (regular players basically).
- 4. The ability to temporarily ban and temporarily job ban players. Self explanatory.
- 5. The ability to apply NOTES to a players’ ckey. This is a system staff use to keep tabs on players behavior and administrative action taken. It’s good practice to note what you’ve talked to a player about. You don’t need to note EVERYTHING. If they didn’t do anything wrong, a note isn’t required.
- 6. The ability to warn players. This is like a note, but visible to the players and requires them to acknowledge the warning.
- 7. The ability to admin-ghost (like observing, but you can re-enter your body)
- 8. Lastly, the ability to use modchat, where you can speak with other moderators and admins about stuff.
- If you have questions during the interview or would like something kept privie, tell me and i will answer the question or keep the certain thing privite
- Do you have any questions before we begin?
- ResiToday at 7:13 PM
- Number 3, to boot, as in, you disconnect them?
- DragoToday at 7:14 PM
- Correct. I should add onto this as this was added recently but you can now view a players job history of a character too
- ResiToday at 7:14 PM
- Oh, interesting! Alright, no other questions.
- DragoToday at 7:15 PM
- Alright, we will begin
- You are alone on the server with a decent population, say around 30-35 players.A character named Donald J Trump appears to be coming from Odin to the station. What do you do?
- ResiToday at 7:18 PM
- Admin pm them and ask if they’ve read the rules, point out that we have rules on reference names.
- DragoToday at 7:20 PM
- They reply that they have not read the rules, they appear to be harmless however. They apologtize for the name and ask what to do to resolve the situation. What do you do? There are people in the staff discord too if you need assistance
- ResiToday at 7:22 PM
- Tell them where to locate the rules so they can review them, discord admins to see if anyone can come on and change their name (since that’s not listed in my abilities here). If they can, great, if not, ask the player to cryo and respawn. When it’s resolved, I’d make a note so we know if it keeps happening.
- DragoToday at 7:23 PM
- Alright. Anything else to addon before moving to the next question
- ResiToday at 7:23 PM
- Nope, I don’t think so.
- DragoToday at 7:24 PM
- You are sitting in the lobby working on a character when you notice a flood of attack logs in your chat window. An engineer is stabbing someone with a screwdriver, and said person, a cargo technician, is hitting the engineer with a fire extinguisher. A quick check indicates that neither of them are antagonists. What do you do?
- ResiToday at 7:27 PM
- I’d go take a look at the situation, ghosting. If they’re actively fighting and I can’t see a clear and very immediate reason for it, wind them to make sure they don’t kill one another, admin pm them and ask what’s going on to make sure they have a good reason for this escalation and understand our RP rules.
- DragoToday at 7:29 PM
- the cargo tech responds quite upset, claiming he was defending himself and the other guy started it. The engineer claims the cqargo techw as ignoring him and then called him a name and it led to a arguement then it got physical. What do you do
- ResiToday at 7:33 PM
- Ignoring someone and calling someone a name isn’t a good reason to start stabbing someone with a screwdriver. I’d go up through logs to ensure the engineer did, in fact, start the physical part of the fight. If so, I’d explain rules on escalation and give the engineer a warning on proper escalation. The cargo tech was defending himself with what he had on hand, that’s understandable.
- DragoToday at 7:34 PM
- Well, lets make this abit intresting and say the Cargo tech tossed something at the engineer in annoyance. How wouldd you change it for a case like that. Say he threw a sheet of metal or a package wrapper
- ResiToday at 7:36 PM
- I’m not sure that would change things. A cargo tech can be an asshole and throw a wrapper at someone, that seems like a reasonable (if kind of douchey) thing to do, but it’s still entirely nonlethal. Stabbing someone in response is still improper escalation.
- DragoToday at 7:37 PM
- Alrightie, anything else before we moce on forward?
- ResiToday at 7:38 PM
- As we move forward, I’m assuming you’re telling me if they have preexisting logs and notes. Should I start saying I’d check first?
- Warnings, not logs.
- Hhhh
- DragoToday at 7:39 PM
- Correct. As bad as it sounds there has been trials who before dont check logs or bother to
- ResiToday at 7:39 PM
- Okay! Thanks. I’m ready to move forward.
- DragoToday at 7:39 PM
- You’re in the lobby when you get an ahelp. It’s a round of mercenary and there are plenty of combat logs. “wtf can you take care of this qm please??” Jumping over, you find the quartermaster locked in combat with the entire merc team, and he’s winning. He’s armed himself with the best weapons he can get, and he’s in cargo fighting. Two of the mercs are already down, and the last two are injured badly but fighting.
- ResiToday at 7:41 PM
- What weapons does he have? Can they all be found in/ordered from cargo?
- DragoToday at 7:42 PM
- Yes. We will say he bought himself some a dragonov and maybe a machine pistol
- ResiToday at 7:44 PM
- Alright. I’d ask the person who ahelped what’s happened, and I’d admin pm the quartermaster to ask to explain this. I’m looking for proper escalation- if the mercs have been a consistent and pressing threat, and if the QM was in a position where he couldn’t run, this could be okay, being good at combat isn’t against the rules. If they just showed up and the QM started attacking them, if he could run and hasn’t, and if he hasn’t had proper reason to weapons hoard it could be validhunting.
- Aaaand check notes/warnings.
- On the QM
- DragoToday at 7:47 PM
- His notes indicate he has a habit of arming himself up if there’s conflict, though he doesn’t necessarily go around seeking it.
- ResiToday at 7:48 PM
- Does he respond to my pm or does he keep attacking them?
- DragoToday at 7:49 PM
- He appears to be contuining to attack. The merc who ahelped dies however and explains they ordered cargo to surreder themselfs epqacefuly and the QM setup a ambush as they went to raid cargo
- ResiToday at 7:50 PM
- Alright. I’ll wind the QM to keep the rest of the merc team alive and get his attention, ask him again f he could explain how this situation started.
- DragoToday at 7:51 PM
- As soon as he is winded, he becoems quite beligerent as the mercs begin to move forward "Fucking bitch, why did you wind me, im gonna die now" he exclaims
- ResiToday at 7:52 PM
- I’ll remind him that they can’t interact with him as he’s winded, keeping an eye on the situation to make sure they don’t, and ask him a third time to explain the situation.
- DragoToday at 7:54 PM
- He says that he armed himself because his character was scared, and he only fought because they came to cargo, otherwise he wouldn’t. He comments that the mercenary died because they weren’t robust. He claims that he fought unarmored and outnumbered and still won.
- ResiToday at 7:55 PM
- I’ll explain our rules on realistic characters and how this relates to fear rp- it’s unreasonable to start fighting a group of well armed, armored people in no armor with makeshift weapons when you could run from your department instead.
- Due to the severity of the issue (several dead), I’ll give a warning if he seems to understand.
- DragoToday at 7:57 PM
- He disagrees with you, claiming he will make a complaint on you being unreasonable and as a trial you dont know better.
- ResiToday at 7:59 PM
- He’s absolutely welcome to and I will tell him so. He has preexisting notes, it’s a warning, not a ban, and I’m comfortable with the decision.
- DragoToday at 8:00 PM
- alright, anything else?
- ResiToday at 8:00 PM
- Unwind him and as long as he doesn’t leap after them or something, nope.
- DragoToday at 8:02 PM
- Alright. That will conclude the ic part. Are you ready for the ooc portion?
- ResiToday at 8:02 PM
- Yes.
- DragoToday at 8:07 PM
- You’ve had a few run-ins with staff in the past. Not necessarily for hostile behavior, but for other various reasons with varied little things, with the last one being around two weeks ago. While small and it just being a note, How do you think this will affect your ability to moderate, as well as your image both among the staff team and with the community or those who may be critics of you
- ResiToday at 8:09 PM
- I’ve never had a repeated warning and I’ve never been banned. I’m absolutely still improving as a player all the time, and I’ve used my notes and warnings as they have been intended- as feedback on how to improve my performance on this server.
- I think, with how frequently I play and especially the nature of my most played character, it’s natural that I’ve accumulated notes and warnings. I think the fact that none have been repeat issues is a testament to my respect for the server and attempts to improve.
- DragoToday at 8:12 PM
- Yeah. And for example. If you can show improvement that si the best thing. I had a perm ban before aswell as notes and I was able to pass as i showed a very draumatic change. Anyways, ready for the next question?
- ResiToday at 8:12 PM
- Yes
- DragoToday at 8:12 PM
- sometimes you need to make unsavory or difficult decisions as staff. For example, banning someone who you consider a friend, or explaining rule violations to them. How do you think you would handle such a task?
- ResiToday at 8:17 PM
- fairly well. Obviously I’d try to defer any major cases with people I’m particularly close with to someone less biased, not to avoid having to do a hard thing but to make sure we are being as objective as we can about the rules, but I can definitely take people being mad at me- look at the character I main. It’s something I deal with pretty regularly professionally as well.
- I think speaking firmly and empathetically is sometimes the best you can do and it’s the other persons decision on how to take it, you can’t control their anger. But the integrity of the server relies on those rules.
- DragoToday at 8:23 PM
- Alright
- How do you feel about the current state of the server? Do you hold any concerns over the way things are run right now? If you could change one thing about it, anything, what would it be?
- ResiToday at 8:30 PM
- I was really worried for the server this summer after a series of whitelist strips and bans of some of our fairly well known players, but I was assured by staff that it would be fine. And it was. I think Abo sent me the same meme about how he was right and I was wrong multiple times.
- Currently, though? I guess I have some anxieties over the next big thing, and I was very recently critical over the development team and how they handle community feedback- especially after a biased server poll about mechanics I wasn’t personally a fan of. But they’ve since evened out how they take those polls and have been much more consistent in asking for and responding to feedback from the community.
- So I’m not sure I have any current concerns, just recent ones.
- If I HAD to change one thing... I suppose we could increase the rate we take ahelps if we could magically ensure we had exactly enough staff on during all rounds. I’ve had a few times where I’ve not heard back from my ahelp for -15 minutes or so. Buuut there’s really no realistic way to fix that problem and it has not been a big issue, really.
- Oh and add defibs.
- DragoToday at 8:33 PM
- if you dont mind me asking, which strips were you concerned with
- ResiToday at 8:35 PM
- Well, I HAD been concerned that in a short time, we lost jackboot and campinkiller, and BSA had been banned, and I feeeeel like someone else in that time period. And I agreed with the strips (especially in the aftermath, with what happened with camp), but I was worried we were losing our community. Abo was right. People were just busy going back to school and the server went back to a moderate pop after a few weeks.
- DragoToday at 8:39 PM
- Alright. Last question and it can be kept short and it was moreso requested it be asked but. There has been a past single or two issues involving you and CCIA. Even as a ic issue, do you feel you are able to get along with them on a ooc level?
- ResiToday at 8:41 PM
- Absolutely. Syn put a warning on Fernando’s record a few days ago, I expressed concern to syn, he explained his reasoning, and we were back to friendly by the next day.
- I’ve excelled at keeping ic out of ooc.
- DragoToday at 8:42 PM
- Alright. Is there anything from this interview you wish to be kept privite?
- ResiToday at 8:43 PM
- Maybe the “add defibs and the wink”. Or maybe that will convince dev to add defibs.
- ... I’m joking around, sorry. Nah I think everything here is fine.
