  1. The Gang Finds A One-Armed Man

  3. You might not have a lead, but between the five of you, you should be able to find the man if you ask around. You all begin to head out...

  5. "Ah, who's a good girl." You see the man cradling the jackalope and giving it gentle scratches to the underside of her neck.
  6.  
  7. "How did he even get in here?" "How was he holding her when she barely even let any of you even touch her?"
  8.  
  9. The man puts down Jackie and waves over to the group of you heading down the ropes. "I suppose you wanted to see me?"
  10.  
  11. While he wasn't wrong, none of you quite expected him to come to you. Although that did make things much quicker.

  13. Well no reason not to ask, questions that were on the forefront of your minds, this place, this city, who he was....

  25. After some muttering between the party, they decide to go straight for jugular on this opportunity and ask "Is there a way to leave the city, even if it's extremely hard to do so? And if so, what is it?"

  28. The man makes a gesture of mock offense, "Straight to the point I see." The man moves to take a seat on a nearby crate. "There is a way out of the city, the hand of fate can guide your path if you let it. Others have devised their own ways of leaving in the past, none have succeeded yet."

  30. He picks up a nearby shed antler, "There are a few ways to go about doing so, all tied to the fate of Stand users. These places, this Hanging Garden may become important in your endeavors to leave." He brushes the antler, moving his finger around the curves. "The strong will of Stand users is also needed, a force larger than any army."

  32. He sets the antler back down. "The process of finding the materials to leave is just the beginning though, the act of leaving is much more dangerous than anything in the city. I cannot guide you any further, there are many paths to this venture and anything else you want to find out can be done with your own abilities if you set forth with them."

  44. Taking in his answer, particularly the part about not being able to guard them further, the team decides to ask the man more about himself, including his relationship with Jackie.

  47. The man holds up his left arm, "Fate has dictated that I cannot help you beyond the actions I am already currently taking. If I were to help you, you wouldn't mature in the same ways, no?" He puts his arm down. "You may think that I am exaggerating here, but there is an order of operation that should not be broken. Let me demonstrate."

  49. The man reaches into his pocket and pulls out a wooden card. He looks to Keith, "young man, take this card from me," he lightly tosses it over to Keith. Just before Keith could grab it a crow swoops in and snatches it out of the air. "That card just now was The Moon if you were curious. Something that you are probably familiar with and I'm not just talking about your surname."

  51. The man puts his hand to his mouth and lets out a whistle. The crow circles overhead and the card is dropped back into the man's hand. He holds the card back up to the group, "There may come a time where I give you a card, it isn't certain as it all depends on the paths you follow. However you will know what they mean if you get them."

  53. "As for Jackie, she is quite the special creature would you not agree? Although with a city full of anomalies I guess its hard to judge which ones stand out. You know animals are usually more in tune with Fate than even people are. They sense danger signs and often act as Fate's conduits, some of its unseen hands as it were."

  55. The man trails off a bit lost in thought as he looks to the antlers strewn about the place.

  67. After some deliberation and expected surprise, during which Keith (who already knows the answer from personal experience but not how to express it) remains silent the group asks: 'Is Fate something that knows its own destination, or just how to get there, and can we learn from it?'

  70. The man shakes his head, "Fate is a force that uses its role to keep the world going, the cycle turning if you will. It is about as sentient as any other natural phenomenon you may come across like an aurora borealis or an eclipse. Putting it as simply as 'just how to get there' is also missing the point, Fate does tell of what is to come, but how it happens is up to the person and their actions." The man pauses a bit to readjust his coat.

  72. "People tend to be self centered when looking at Fate, after all a common misconception is to believe that they have only their own individual 'Fate' to look at. If you look at it in the grander scheme, everybody has their own Fate and to not recognize that is as foolish as not recognizing that other people have feelings." He clears his throat, "Apologies for the tangent, but to learn from Fate is a very broad question I don't think you intended it to be. Learning from ones own Fate is as simple as reflecting on their future, preparing themselves for what might happen and using knowledge to guide themselves forward."

  74. He then gestures to all of them, "Each one of you here have been dealt a strange hand, but that doesn't mean your cards are unplayable. Fate is present all throughout ones life, preparing them for a future to come. Some of the moments you've needed to be a part of have already happened and some moments are still yet to come. Fate is made up of all people's threads interwoven together. I must go soon, your paths will be laid out before you whether you know them or not."

  87. Marlin, who'd been standing behind everyone else for the majority of this conversation, stepped foreward, pointing towards the one arm man as one of her weights dragged along the ground.

For a moment it felt as though my chains were off, but again it was only a moment. I want you to tell me how I can get back that feeling. How I can just be free of these... These chains."

  92. The man smiles, he seemed to be enjoying the question more than the others. "Freedom from your shackles? Well there are many ways you can go about doing that, the college staff probably wouldn't mind looking into it if you are patient. Otherwise if you find it within yourself to give your burden to somebody else that is a possibility. There is no right answer here, but you will need to make your own decisions and live with any consequences."

  94. The man starts to stand up, "Remember that there will be no easy way out, there never is with an undeserved burden." He lifts his bad arm up to his chest and looks at it. "Try to find purpose beyond your burden before you leave it for good, lest your judgement be clouded. If you reflect on yourself and can answer me what it is, I'll gladly take it off for you. The Hanged Man's rope is yours to tie."
