  1. >In happier times this tower had belonged to an eccentric wizard.
  2. >He had converted the highest level of the tower into a library stocked full of rare tomes, globes, maps, tapestries, telescopes, suits of armor, and all manner of other curio.
  3. >The windows provided a spectacular view of the Celestial sea.
  4. >These days an evil looking red and black banner hung from the tower and the enemy used it as a command post.
  5. >Under different circumstances Copenhagen might have enjoyed a tour of the library and it's relics.
  6. >As it stood, he was merely being kicked in the stomach by the enemy troopers who had captured him.
  7. >“Tell us what unit you're with!” one of the troopers yelled as he punched Copenhagen “Are there any more of you here?”
  8. >“Talk!”
  9. >Copenhagen didn't even acknowledge the trooper interrogating him much less answer the questions.
  10.
  11. >The trooper growled and prepared to renew the beating.
  12. >“He is one of those warponies.” A voice with a strange hollow echo spoke “And I think it's safe to assume he will reveal nothing to us, even under torture.”
  13. >Copenhagen spat blood as he looked up to the direction the voice came from.
  14. >He was startled to see it was a Peryton. A mysterious race that can accurately be described as a fantastically colored stag with wings.
  15. >Though that doesn't really do justice to the unreal “wrongness” of Perytons.
  16. >Looking at a Peryton was kind of like seeing something that wasn't really there out of the corner of you eye, except you're looking at it dead on.
  17. >“Alchemist,” the Peryton spoke again “the serum.”
  18. >It was then that a thin sickly figure Copenhagen hadn't noticed enter the library approached holding a drinking horn.
  19. >Presumably the alchemist.
  20. >“I think you'll find this more than adequate incentive to speak.” he turned to the troopers “Sit him upright and hold his mouth open.”
  21. >The enemy troopers found a small chair in the room and cuffed Copenhagen to it then wrestled with him until his head was held immobile and mouth forced open.
  22. >“Now, now,” The alchemist said with mock sympathy as he poured the noxious drink into Copenhagen's mouth “there's nothing to gain by struggling.”
  23. >Copenhagen could tell just by looking that this wretch was capable of bravado only when his opponents were already tied up.
  24. >Once the Alchemist had finished with the serum, the troopers quickly forced Copenhagen's mouth shut and covered his nostrils.
  25. >Copenhagen could only hold his breath so long before he was forced to swallow.
  26.
  27. >The alchemist turned to the Peryton.
  28. >“It should take effect almost immediately, sir.”
  29. >“Good.” the Peryton stepped forward to Copenhagen “Are there any more of you here?”
  30. >Copenhagen gritted his teeth and tried not to talk but couldn't help himself from blurting out.
  31. >“Big badge sent the bleeder on a shuftie that's turned to a circus op, I daresay, twain of brown jobs one of em a sprog other one's a split.”
  32. >A moment passed.
  33. >“What's that supposed to mean?” a confused trooper asked.
  34. >Undeterred the Peryton continued “How many war ponies are there? Have they been deployed to the Griffish Isles?”
  35. >“I pulled up the sandbag already, you got the pukka-gen, not to argy-bargy but you should already know your onions. Queens eybrows if it isn't double gen! As for the rovers, total cockup, be a donkeys years before they can crack it.”
  36. >“What is the meaning of this!?” the Peryton growled at the alchemist.
  37. >“I-i can't say, Sir.” the startled alchemist replied with a nervous smile as he searched for words “He must be finding some way to, uh, babble nonsense instead of answering the questions.”
  38. >The Peryton growled again and the alchemist winced, but instead of berating his subordinate the Peryton instead came closer to Copenhagen.
  39. >“Do not try my patience any further! You will tell me everything you know about the forces defending Trottingham now!”
  40. >“It's no duff gen ya git. It's a gopping mishcrit snafu, be done up like a kipper, the zobit's punted and duffed it good. All arse over tit!”
  41.
  42. >The Perton's eye twitched before he regained his composure.
  43. >“What is it that you think your resistance changes? Do you think you can still defeat us? An elite battalion of Peryton troopers is even now prepping in bug bear territory. As soon as they capture Trottingham's ports, our regular infantry can begin occupying the whole Griffish Isles.”
  44. >The peryton locked eyes with Copenhagen. “That will cut you off from the Griffon lands, after that the Griffons will capitulate with us, they hardly have cause to stand with you as things are now.”
  45. >“That will leave entire east cost open to attack, once that falls Equesrtia's interior will be vulnerable. Don't you understand? It'll be a domino effect, this war cannot be won.”
  46. >The Peryton then got right up in Copenhagens face. “Why do you persist in fighting us?”
  47. >“Well there's fireproof good reasons,” Copenhagen smiled “but the most important one right now is that these darbies were easier to pick than I thought!”
  48. >A strong hoof to the face sent the Pereyon reeling back across the room.
  49. >Quick as lightning Copenhagen was on his hooves and looking for an escape route.
  50. >He saw the troopers who had been beating him previously were also on their hooves and fast approaching.
  51. >Thinking quick, he grabbed the chair he had been cuffed to and hurled it at them hitting the lead trooper in the forelegs and causing the lot of them to trip and fall into a big heap.
  52. >Copenhagen turned to the Alchemist narrowed his eyes and blew steam from his nostrils.
  53. >The Alchemist flinched and looked like he had just wet himself before he fled the room screaming for more guards.
  54. >“Thought so.” Coppenhagen harrumphed.
  55.
  56. >Before he could leave the room, an evil sounding hiss brought Copenhagen's attention back to the Peryton, who was standing now, with murder in his eyes and purple sparks flying from his antlers.
  57. >Copenhagen braced himself as he had no idea what Peryton magic was capable of.
  58. >With a loud “FWOOSH” a gout of purple flame shot out from the Peryton's antlers directly at Copenhagen.
  59. >Copenhagen first ran one direction but then turned and leaped over the fire landing in a roll.
  60. >The peryton was sweeping it's magic fire back towards Copenhagen, igniting rugs, the floorboards, and bookshelves as it moved.
  61. >Noticing he had landed near two suits of armor holding spears and shields he swiftly nabbed one of the shields in his mouth causing the suit to fall apart.
  62. >It wouldn't do much to block the magical fire, he thought as he started to wind up, but he knew he could throw it with greater accuracy than he could one of the spears.
  63. >He turned quickly and released the shield sending it flying straight at the Peryton striking him right in the antlers.
  64. >The Peryton reared up and unleashed a terrible howl, sending sparks and random bursts of flame to the ceiling.
  65. >Copenhagen lowered his head and charged the Peryton's now exposed stomach.
  66. >The power of the impact sent the creature flying into a heavy bookshelf, it's shelves breaking and almost burying him in old manuscripts and journals.
  67. >The Peryton emerged from the pile books locked eyes with Copenhagen and readied another attack.
  68. >Just as the bookcase fell over on top of him and pinned the monster to the floor.
  69. >“Queered the plonker's pitch.” Copenhagen chuckled as he ran out through the library's door hoping to find a way to escape the tower.
  70. >He ran back in after seeing the Alchemist heading his way with about about two dozen more enemy troopers in tow.
  71.
  72. >Copenhagen closed the door but frowned when he found no way to lock it.
  73. >He toppled the nearest bookcase and propped it against the door to hold it closed.
  74. >No sooner had he done that than the enemies on the other side began to force the door open.
  75. >It wouldn't hold for long, but Copenhagen had other things to worry about.
  76. >The fire started by the Peryton's magic had spread and the whole room might well be completely engulfed in smoke and flame before the enemies could get to him.
  77. >He ran to an open window.
  78. >It was certainly large enough for him to fit through, but the fall would surely kill him.
  79. >“Give it up!” The still pinned but now conscious Peryton yelled as he tried to crawl out from under the bookcase. “There's no way out, surrender and I will spare your life.”
  80. >Copenhagen didn't bother responding to that but he still wasn't sure how he was going to get out of this.
  81.
  82. >Suddenly the wind picked up and Copenhagen briefly saw something red flash by the window.
  83. >He smiled and silently thanked the enemy for their excessive flair for dramatics.
  84. >After grabbing the spear from the fallen suit of armor he smiled as he addressed the Peryton one final time.
  85. >“Hate to do a bunk, but I must be running. Thanks for pukka gen on that Peryton battalion, brass hats have been trying to find them for some time.”
  86. >And with that he jumped out the window shouting “Tally Ho!”.
  87. >The bright red fabric of the enemy's banner was easily pierced by the spear, ripping through it as he fell. But it provided just enough resistance to slow his fall.
  88. >The Peryton shook his hoof in anger as he bellowed “Curse you Copenhagen!”
  89. >And then the tower exploded for some reason.
  90. >As soon as Copenhagen landed he was off and running.
  91. >What few enemies had even noticed him in all the emerging chaos had no chance of catching up with the former racehorse, even as tired and injured as he was.
  92. >Now he just had to reunite with the other warponies and pass on the location of the Peryton battalion and their plans.
  93.
  94. >“Que?” The white stallion scratched his head “I apologize Mon'Amie, but perhaps you could be so kind as to 'owyousay, come again?”
  95. >“For the third time you daft frog!” Copenhagen tried to keep his frustration in check as he spoke to Marengo. “Pery's over the oggin gonna start a barny. Trottingham's gonna catch a packet!
  96. >“Hmm, I still find myself at a loss.” Marengo said “Perhaps he speaks something other than English to us, no? Do you understand him, Drakon?”
  97. >“Nyet!” The black stallion replied.
  98. >Marengo turned to Reckless “What about you Sargent?”
  99. >“No, he need learn how talk good like me always do!”
  100. >Copenhagen stared at them incredulously.
  101. >“Oh, bollocks!”
