  1. 1.- Acedia, Atlas and Hector.
  2.
  3. As I'd explain below, when you speak of the mysterious Warlock in Lewes Theta memories, I reached a conclusion leading to three inseparable elements: Acedia, Atlas and Hector.
  4. ______
  5. 1.1.- Acedia:
  6. You'll often find Hector is called the Warlock of Melancholy, but I can't help to disagree. My underanding of japanes is pretty shallow, so I'll not say it's a bad translation, but I really think saying Hector is the Warlock of Acedia is a more correct option in a fundamental basis: acedia is a sin, melancholy is not. But even disregarding that, let's try to explain what it is and the reason why I think acedia is a better word to describe Hector, even though my friend Suzummiya
  7. taught me "yuutsu" is melancholy in english.
  8. Acedia and vainglory are some kind of forgotten capital sins, most probably because they were absorbed into the sins of envy and pride. Acedia is a sin against Charity in the form of indiference, ingratitude and, in its latter form, the hate to God. Then acedia is a sin of inaction you can call spiritual/moral sloth. Here we can make a paralelism between vainglory/pride and acedia/envy in regards to the subject of the sin: vainglory is the vanity in how others see me, and pride is the vanity in how I see myself; envy is jelousy in the quantity or quality of what others possess, and acedia is jelousy of what other obtain through Charity.
  9. In latin, you can see the roots of the word akedia in other words like acer, acris, acre, aceo and acetum, all of them related to sadnessm, sourness, acridity and other strong negative feelings. By losing the swetness of Charity, the void it left, just like ermentation, becomes grumpy and sour. In many cases, this implies you will feel disgust, repugnance, irritation or sadness at thing you held dear. By throwing away their Charity, they forfeit the salvation of their souls, neglecting the heart. In resumen, acedia is one of the shapes of sadness (and here I can understand why you can compare it with melancholy), with its point of inflection being the lost of the Charity you couldn't recover, this generates grief, sourness and, finally, hatred; you have your ideal and joyful past self constantly poking at your sad and declined current self, which culminates in fatigue and physical tiredness, leading to even more inaction and moral slothfulness. Thus, acedia is closely related to sloth and envy.
  10.
  11. 1.2.- Atlas:
  12. To see how I reached the conclusion of Acedia representing the star Atlas in the Pleiades star cluster, please dust off my previous theory (https://www.reddit.com/r/Re_Zero/comments/55rafm/wn_theory_about_acedia_and_vainglory/) ... Done reading it? Let's continue. Atlas is famous for being the one to shoulder the sky (celestial heavens), but it´s also said he was an astronomist and some myths even depicts him as the founder of that science.
  13. It's also of our interest the psychological condition known as the Atlas personality. Children who have shouldered heavy responsabilities beyond their age are prone to develop this personality in adulthood. The adult may have a personality devoid of fun and distressed, as well as depression and anxiety, over-sensitivity to others and an inability to assert their own needs.
  14.
  15. 1.3.- Hector:
  16. This point was the hardest to connect. The only Hector who this name could be referencing to was the trojan hero, but he had no apparent link with Acedia or Atlas, so I was at a total loss there. So I'll take a big detour and start this with the Hesperides.
  17. As the Hesperides are also daughters of Atlas and they are in the constellation of Taurus too, they picked my attention in my very first theory, but I discarded their importance because, as individuals, the info about them were anbiguous and lacking in details. But some weeks ago my interest was refueled. In the the different versions of their myth the quantity of sisters (3-7), their parents, and their names, change. In the version of the myth with 7 sisters, there is a sister called Asterope, so my hype was instantaneous.
  18. The principal role of the Hesperides in greek myhology is to be the caretakers of the Garden of the Hesperides, an orchard property of Hera, in which is planted a tree with golden apples. This tree was a gift of Gaia and was by far the most impotant tree of the garden, but sometimes the Hesperides would pick a few apples for them, so Hera placed a immortal, never-sleeping, hundred-headed dragon called Ladon as guardian to prevent this. Now we have a few thing to comment.
  19. First of all, the similarities are everywhere. The Hesperides are the Witches. The golden apples are the Witch's Genes. Ladon is Volcanica; I said time ago Volcanica must be the guardian or the owner of the Genes, in a time I didn't know anything about this and now that idea is reinforced.
  20. In second place, in arc 4, in the last part of the first Trial, when Subaru is in his school, he describes Echidna's scent as "citric". Echidna's characteristics in the dream world are bound to be similar to the ones she had while alive, so her personality, appareance, scent and other things must be intrinsic, never changing, qualities of hers. However, these apples of the Hesperides myth are believed to be oranges. Oranges were introduced in Europe in the medieval ages from Africa, so oranges were a rarity unknown in Europe's old days. My point is, maybe, this is a reference to the citrus flavor/scent of oranges, hence to the golden apples and, by extension, the smell of the Witch Genes . Obviously, this is too circumstantial and probably just was a description of how "good" Echidna smells.
  21. And lastly, and more important, the Apple of Discord, the very root to Troy War was one of the golden apples the Hesperides tended. Short summary: Eris, goddess of discord, gave an apple to the most beautiful women present in a certain ceremony, and three goddesses felt aluded with the description: Hera Aphrodite an Athena. Zeus decided that Paris, prince of Troy, would be the one to judge the winner. Paris choose Aphrodite because she promised to give him the most beatiful mortal woman as wife, and that woman was Helen of Sparta. Aphrodite abducted Helen and gave her to Paris, but her real husband, king Menelaus, was enraged at Paris, then declared war to Troy. Hector was also a prince of Troy and was against the war, but he went to fight to defend the honor of Troy and his egoistic brother, then he was killed by Achilles after 10 years of war. Tracking the original cause, we can say that golden apple killed Hector and trampled his life. In the same way, we can say the Witch Genes bringed ruin to him.
  22. It's also intriguing how Eris plot fits somehow with Pandora's myth: taking something out of its rightful place (sins out of a box, apple out of a garden) brings misfortune to everyone.
  23. ______
  24. What kind of person we obtain if we put those 3 ingredients in a mixer?
  25.
  26. - A sweet guy who went sour, lethargic, fatigued, tired of living (Acedia).
  27. - A guy with knowledge in astronomy, who had to shoulder a heavy weight since his youth, devoid of fun (Atlas).
  28. - A defeated hero, mangled by fate (Hector).
  29.
  30. The answer is: the kind of person Natsuki Subaru will become. I affirmed in my first theory that Re:Zero is the story of a macro time loop of 400 or so years. By the end of the timeline, Satella will die and Emilia will become the new Witch of Envy and go back to the past to repeat the cycle. Now I update that theory to include
  31. Subaru in that travel, both so broken they are unrecognizable persons. I'll elaborate in this from now on, but first I want to compare Hector and Subaru names: in greek, Hector means "to hold [together]" and Subaru in japanese means "to unite/come together", that is, their names are pretty much the same.
  32.
  33.
  34. 2.- Clown and Sanctuary.
  35.
  36. In arc 4, we see Roswaal pestering Subaru over and over again to abandon all the unnecesary weight to focus all his efforts only to protect what was of the utnost importance. After lossing Echidna, Roswaal performed drasctical changes in his mentalilty and mannerism (the way he speaks and dress) and adopted this creed of indiference to others, which later would try to force into Subaru. The reasons behind his changes are tied to his regret born by the failure to protect Echidna and
  37. to his piety to the gospel. We don't know what his gospel said, but we know he's acting just like Hector. To him, Hector is an ideal, a personification of strength, the only path to attain your dearest goal.
  38. Roswaal's gospel warned him of the arrival of Subaru to his mansion and the fact he had some kind of power to create positive results in hopeless situations, but Roswaal doesn't know the mechanics of that power. When Subaru inquired Roswaal about the specifics of his relationship with Beatrice, he answers questioning Subaru if he had remembered. This cryptic answer has sense if Hector and Subaru are the same person. Roswaal answer does sound like he remembers something Subaru has forgotten. To Roswaal, Subaru is a spineless ordinary guy not alike the Warlock he knows, so Roswaal assumes the memory loss is connected to Subaru's power unknown mechanics. But when Subaru answers out of the blue for Beatrice, Roswaal thinks the restrictions to his memories were lifted and he remembered the episode in the
  39. Sanctuary's plaza where Lewes, Beactrice, Roswaal, Echidna and Hector were present, the only other contact Subaru could had with Beatrice prior to his arrival the mansion, leading to the posterior dissapointment of Roswaal at Subaru's clueless answer. But even if Subaru doesn't remember, Roswaal is confident he'll make things go back to "normal", when Subaru discovers he can't go forward without sacrifices, transforming him into his original ruthless self, all in accordance with his gospel.
  40. Hector and Roswaal are the incarnation of acedia. To them, their goals are the only think which really matters, showing indiference, ingratitude and hatred for the things they once loved; they lack of the will to live outside of their tiresome pursuit for results. Hector attacked Sanctuary fully aware of the tragic consequences of his actions, in particular for Beactrice's case, sentencing her to 400 years of hell. But it didn't matter, anything did matter to him anymore, he just cares for Satella, the Emilia he couldn't protect. Time ago, I half-jokingly said Hector was Satella's Knight, but now I must take that affirmation to face value because, indeed, Subaru is Emilia's Knight; Acedia is Envy's Knight. Roswaal said the make-up he wears was something like a war paint, but we can say that of his clothes and
  41. mannerisms too; they show his resolve to get dirty. And Hector is the same. Roswaal is mimicking Hector and Hector is mimicking Roswaal. Two clowns mirroring each other.
  42. In Lewes memories, we see the desperate efforts of Echidna's group to activate Sanctuary's barrier to repel Hector, but that doesn't make sense. What we know of that barrier is its function to block the exit of half-bloods, nothing more. The only other supernatural phenomenom happening in the Sanctuary is located in the Tomb; its capacity to trigger the Trials. We can think the Trials are also part of a barrier in which only qualified people can enter. We don't know a thing of how the Trials were enclosed to the Tomb's surroundings, but here is my guess: when Lewes sacrificed herself the mechanisms for the activation of the half-bloods barrier and the Trials "barrier" activated simultaneouly in rapid expansion, once the barrier reached its maximum radius, the half-bloods barrier position was locked, but the Trial "barrier" begun to slowly shrink in direction to its current location. Echidna stopped Hector giving him back his qualification and forcing him to face the Trials. The Trials most surely aren't affected by the pass of time so Hector/Subaru faced the Third Trial. By watching the nightmarish future he had lived in flesh, the future he couldn't accept, Hector failed the Trial to then retreat in a lamentable mental state. Echidna didn't kill Hector at that moment because that is the road to total doom: without Hector there is no way to stop the Witch of Envy. However I don't discard more personal reasons.
  43. But, what happened to Hector? Why does he dissapear? Echidna's trap would not work again because the shrinking was irreversible. But when Hector went for a second time to Sanctuary, he wasn't the same person. The Third Trial shows you a fan of possible futures, and you pass it if you can accept those possibilities, the consequences of your actions. Hector saw "something" in those chances, a new possibility he hadn't thought about. A new hope, a new path. And then...
  44.
  45.
  46. 3.- Flugel, contract and Return by Death.
  47.
  48. I must admit I didn't like this theory in the beginning, but the more I think about it the more I believe this makes a lot of sense. What I'm sayins is that Hector is in fact Flugel, which means Subaru, Hector and Flugel are the same person. One of the few things I know of arc 6 is the existence of Stride, but even so I still think Subaru and Al have portions of the Witch Gene of Pride (in the same way there are 3 Gluttonys). Flugel means "wing" in german, and Pride is represented by the star Alcyone (if my previous theory, linked in point 1.2., is correct). Alcyone (not the Pleiad) is best known because she was turned into a bird - the common kingfisher- at the end of her myth. So the name Flugel could be a reference to this, to how Subaru gained the strength to raise again, a conclussion to his declined
  49. self (Hector), to reach new highs by returning to be his previous hopeful self.
  50. But the most important thing here is a explication to why Volcanica decided to do a contract (maybe a Pact) with Flugel, this apparently random guy. Obviously, this is bescause Flugel could do something no one can do except him: kill (or damage) the Witch of Envy. I explained this in more detail in my first theory but here I'll make it short: Satella wants to die and gave this task to Subaru in arc 4, as Satella is inmortal, normal ways to kill her are useless, but she is convinced Subaru can do it because she knows Subaru will have the means in the future, after he gathered the needed Witch Genes; hence, giving birth to a power able to kill her, a new Gene called Acedia. This is a bit convoluted so I'll explain it chronologically.
  51. The contract I'm going to describe is impossible to realize with only Flugel and Volcanica, we need to add Satella in this famous contract. The participation of Satella in the contract was hidden for evident reasons: the enemy of the world must not collude with the heroes tryng to save it. So, in the public's eyes, the contractors were only Flugel and Volcanica. Let's review the goals of those 3:
  52.
  53. - Volcanica wants to recover the Witch Genes. He's the guardian (maybe the owner, but I don't think so anymore, I'll elaborate in this later), and wants them back. Currently all the Genes are in possession of the Witch of Envy or Flugel. Recovering them from Satella is impossible, recovering them from Flugel will destroy the
  54. alliance and the Witch will finish the world without it.
  55. - Satella wants to die. The only one who can do that is Flugel but he'll NEVER accept to do it. She must find another way.
  56. - Flugel wants to save Satella (his Emilia). But he can't do it alone, not here or now. The Witch of Envy rampant destruction is a real threat to the world. A temporal seal is a good option in the short term, but isn't enough to save her.
  57.
  58. This contract is more a bet between 2 sides than anything else: in one side we have Flugel, in the other Volcanica and Satella. Volcanica and Satella goals are aligned because Satella's death enables the recovering of the Genes; also, if Volcanica wins, Flugel is obliged to hand his Genes over to the Dragon. If Flugel wins all the people related to him, in particular Satella, will be spared and Volcanica'll not retaliate in any way against them. The means for it will be two oblivious third parties: Natsuki Subaru and Al (for more info as for why I think Al is related to all this, please read the Al's section in my first theory). Flugel, Satella and Volcanica will do the groundwork for Subaru and Al to reach a scenerio in which the winner of the bet will be decided. When Echidan speculated about Return by Death and was surprised for Subaru's readily acceptance of everything she said because he had a hunch she was correct, that was not it at all; the answers were engraved in his soul and Echidna just said what his soul knew. Flugel and Subaru have the same soul (probably Hector is not bound by the contract: his time frame of activity is between after this contract is fullfied and before the new contract is signed), but Emilia and Satella have the same soul as well, so this contract binds them all; due to contracts ignoring time Subaru's inmediately bound by it the moment he was summoned becuse Flugel's contract is Subaru's contract. In my first theory I mentioned how Emilia is the replicant of Satella (I used the word "clone" then), because Hector -perhaphs Flugel by then- robbed the knowledge to make them in his second attack on Sanctuary, explaining why Echidna hates Satella and Emilia equally as they are the same in the innermost; this also explains why Emilia felt nostalgia when she heard Minerva's name, someone she didn't even know existed. Now I'll make a list with the main point of this contract I can think of.
  59.
  60. 3.1.- Flugel/Subaru side of the contract:
  61. 1) Flugel compromises to create the replicant of Satella, Emilia. Is totally impossible for our world Subaru to reach the desired conclussion Flugel, Satella and Volcanica wants. He's absurdly weak, and will not do anything of value. Emilia'll be the driving force to make him move forward. Subaru´s the only person Flugel and Satella will accept as the intermediary of this contract.
  62. 2) Flugel/Subaru compromises to not talk about the contents of this contract to anyone.
  63. 3) Flugel compromises to establish a safe way to transmit the Genes nedded to kill/save Satella to Al or Subaru, respectively. This'd be the origins of the Witch Cult.
  64. 4) Flugel/Subaru compromises to return all the Genes in his possession to Volcanica if he loses the bet. Maybe, he compromises to return them even if he wins, the priority here is to save Satella. This is why Echidna said Subaru will lose return by Death when he meets Satella face to face. Probably, this encounter is the end of the road; Satella will be saved or killed shortly after this meeting.
  65.
  66. 3.2.- Satella/Emilia side of the contract:
  67. 1) Satella compromises to summon Subaru and Al (maybe other people too, like Hoshin) from our world. This could have been made either using the Authority of Envy, or with a compund skill extracting the Authorities of several Genes she had absorbed from the other Witches, or with Volcanica's help.
  68. 2) Satella compromises to punish Flugel/Subaru if he breaks his oath to not talk about the contract. Yes, our shadowy heart-crushing hands allowed by the contract to bypass Satella's seal.
  69. 3) Satella compromises to give a fragment of Pride's Gene to Subaru and Al when they are summoned. The skill to go back in time when killed, the only way to make them stronger.
  70. 4) Satella compromises to kill Emilia if essential information of this contract is known by her. This is what happened in arc 3 when Subaru was determined to crush his heart if that means telling everything to Emilia, which leads to her death. Not too sure about this point. I think it's still probable for Emilia to die even if she discovers the truth by a third-party, but will be safe if she discovers it on her own.
  71. 5) Satella comporimises to create a "wall" for Subaru whenever he dies, using the Authority of Envy. This is how the checkpoint is made. Satella is the one who decides when is an adequate moment to set a restart point for Subaru. The word "wall" was extracted from Echidna explication.
  72.
  73. 3.3.- Volcanica side of the contract:
  74. I lack the info to make accurate guesses, but I can say some things.
  75. - An oath of not interference must have been made between the three parties. This contract must be realized by intermediaries. Subaru was choosen by Satella and Flugel; Al was choosen by Volcanica.
  76. - An arbitrator must be established. Something/someone selected Pandora for this role. This is the reason she is supervising the Witch Cult in the shadows (an organization Flugel founded), to watch over the contract goes smoothly and to verify the Genes are not used wrongly, and the main reasons the cultist treat her with respect... but she evidently has a secret agenda.
  77. - The pact between Volcanica and the royal family of Lugnica and this contract between Flugel, Satella and Volcanica are related.
  78.
  79. Thus, Return by Death has 2 components: the Authority of Pride and the constrictions of the previous contract Subaru is abided to oblige. An obvious question is: if Subaru must give back the Genes he possesses, then how can he obtain Acedia Gene to become Hector and repeat the cycle? Most probably, Flugel is still alive in the current era and has taken countermeassures against the contract or the foul play of Pandora. Whenever Subaru/Flugel losses the bet (Satella is killed), Subaru will also lose Return by Death to later be killed himself. But Flugel countermeasures will secure 2 things: one last use of Return by Death and the safe transfer of his own Acedia Gene he still holds (Flugel dies in this process). Because of Satella's death, there is no "wall" to stop his travel back in time, and he goes 400 years ago with the Acedia Gene. Why 400 years ago? Who set a new "wall"? Why Hector's body existed in the past for Subaru's memories to be transplanted into it? Ask those questions to Echidna. She and Flugel are working together.
  80.
  81.
  82. 4.- Satella and Authority of Envy.
  83.
  84. In general terms, the Authorithy of Envy is the skill to translocate things. I talked about the creation of a new Gene, Acedia, and I think Envy is crucial in this. Chromosomal translocation can sometimes "fuse" chromosomes to produce abnormal karyotypes, and a similar process will be used to create Acedia. In the same way, the reverse procees can sometimes "break" the chmosomes to produce fragments. I believe you become an Archbishop if you absorb such fragments; instead you become a Witch if you sbsorb a full Gene. As consequence of the contract above, Satella used her Authorithy to create fragments of the Witch Genes, because they ultimately will be absorbed by Subaru or Al. The transmission of full Genes is a violation of the contract; the safety of the receptors (see point 3 in Flugel's contract) is questionable because Witches aren't humans anymore, so that only the needed fragments for Acedia will be put under the responsability of the Witch Cult, probably the black box Petelgeuse absorbed was one of those fragments.
  85. However, there are other things Satella can translocate. This Authority is the very definition of "freedom of movement", that is, Satella can translocate whatever she wants from point A to point B disregarding the laws of space and time. This implies Satella can travel in time (maybe she can also manipulate it) and ignore physical limits. One of those limits is imposed by the dimensionality of the objects: a 2D object will never reach a 3D dimensionality because the concept of height doesn't even exist there. But Satella can bypass this limit. Either by the huge burden of her Authority or by her incompatibility with her Gene, Satella can't control her powers properly; her Authority is constantly disrupting herself, giving her a higher dimensionality. Satell's inmortalitty is the result of transcending our understanding of dimensionality; you will never reach her because your attacks don't have the concept of that additional dimension. In her unsealed state she's omnipresent and timeless.
  86. Geometrically, our world was put together by a conglomeration of basics units set into patterns: dots form lines, lines form planes, and planes form 3D objects. How many planes of zero height you need to make a tiny solid box? A quantity so absurd you could say you need infinite layers. So we can say our universe is made of infinites over infinites over infinites and more infinite layers of planes. But a single 3D object probably could create an entire 2D universe. Satella originally was a being locked in a world with 3 dimensions, but her Auhority thrown her off to a higher dimensionality, as result, her existence expanded to inconceivable leverls, becoming like a universe-sized balloon full of emptiness: the walls are emptiness, the contentent is emptiness, but in the center there is a lone girl fated to never die. But that emptiness is a part of her own self, is the new dimensionality added to her existence. Her mother world now is so tiny to her so that when she interacts with it she destroy it; she is a 4D object in a 3D world. The witch of Envy is tryins to fill that emptiness consuming 3D objects and mana but, just like Daphne, her "hunger" will never be sated even if she bring an end to the world. Hector figured this out and steeled himself to give Satella more "meaty" food, wholesome nutrients, the only thing inmense enough to sate her, the cogs of the Od Lagna: the Witch Genes (see point 5.1. for details). To bring relief to Satella, Hector schemed plot after plot, murdering the Witches one by one, and giving their Genes to Satella, until that eye-opener he saw in the Third Trial, and by that time he had killed almost all the Witches. It was easy for Hector to kill them because he knew how they were killed by the time he was Subaru, and left the ones whose deaths were not detailed for the end of his killing spree. Then Echidna was one of those, one of the latest Witchesto be killed, perhaps the last one. In his second visit to Sanctuary, Hector was Flugel already, and requested the help of Echidna, and the two of them plotted all the mess we are seeing in the current era (her death was part of the plan, then). It's funny to think in all the ways Echidna will backstab Volcanica in the future because she is a double agent of FLugel... amd Flugel will be backstabbed too, I guess.
  87. Let's go back to Satella. For her, to appear i in an human shape in the 3D world must be a gargartuan display of skill, showin only a minuscule portion of her existence doing teensy actions, so it should be tiresome for her to manifest in that world. What we probably will obtain when she descends without a fine control of her powers are impossible shapes, just like Reutersvard's triangle or Penrose's stairs, doing aberrant things. By that logic, Satella's "shadows" aren't a power of hers, those shadows are a part of her almost infinite body squeezed into a lower dimensionality taking an abonormal shape. And if living shadows is not enough in your "doing aberrant things" department, they can enter dreams (arc 4, end of the First Trial, fight with Sekhmet), minds (mental corruption), and surely souls (in
  88. Subaru's case, by the contract).
  89. The reason why Acedia can kill Satella is because one of the powers Acedia has is the manipulation of gravity. Strong enough gravity can twist space-time and may land a direct hit to Satell's core. Skills to manipulate time and space are counters to Envy's powers, so Pride, Greed and the original Sloth's Genes are the best suited to fight against Satella. We saw Echidna blocking the Witch of Envy entry to her Citadel when Subaru went spilling the secrets of RbD to her, which demostrates Satella and Greed don't go well together. The very fact Pride was choosen as the Gene for Subaru and Al proves the correct use of this power can put Envy in a tight situation. The "original" Sloth is a reference to Sekhmet: I think Sloth Gene powers are related to the manipulation of vectors, and her Gene was able control gravity to some extent, hence, in a serious fight, Sekhmet could also kill Satella (Petelgeuse, having absorbed just a fragment of her Gene, doesn't have this power). I think the motive to Sekhmet premature death was related to Typhonl with Hector pulling the strings. The mythological Typhon is best known for his rebellion against the gods, to finally be defeated by Zeus in a fierce battle. Hector filled Typhon mind with the idea of Volcanica, or the things/being he defends, were "bad", then Typhon, pushed by her sense of justice, went against Volcanica, who retaliated in response; this angered Sekhmet who kicked Volcanica scaly ass but died in the process. Later, with Sekhmet out of the picture, Hector killed Typhon.
  90. And lastly, Subaru and Al have an inusual resistance to Witch powers/miasma. Subaru's resistance is evident and there are a whole lot of examples. Al's case is more intrincate but he has also shown signs of it and the more evident moment this has been displayed is in his scene with Rem in arc 3; Al memories are trustworthy and the other people memories are "wrong" because Pandora rewrote reality by unknown reason, so -and I don't know what this means- Rem should be called Ram, and Ram should be dead, and I believe this is a sign of his resistence to Pandora's Authority, and proof Rem was inserted in Subaru's life by Pandora's designs (I'm absolutely sure Al remembers Rem even after arc 3). Back to the point: Al and Subaru gained this resistance to the Genes miama when they obtained the Pride's fragment from Satella. The method Satella used to implant the Genes in their bodies was by a dimensional rift she made during their summoning, so their bodies -or souls- have a tiny link to the higher dimension Satella resides. This rift is exposing both of them to the miasma and, like a vaccine, they acquired defenses, some kind of weak inmunity, making the miama less effective the nore they are exposed to it. This explains why that door in the Pleiades Watchtower shown 4 lights for Subaru -Pride, Envy, Sloth and Greed- because this rift creates a connection to Envy's Gene which is then counted as well. Al should lit 2 lights: Pride and Envy. In conclussion: the only omes who can become the new Sage, and open that door, are Al and Subaru because is impossible to anyone else to obtain Envy's Gene, they "obtained" it by default by the terms of the contract Satella, Flugel and Volcanica signed, so people unralated to it aren't qualified.
  91.
  92.
  93. 5.- Random thoughts.
  94.
  95. 5.1.- Od Lagna:
  96. As I said in the section about the Hesperides, the similarities between their myth and what is happening in Re:Zero are abundant. In the process of thinking who in the myth was who in the series, my thoughts reached Gaia. Who was Gaia in Re:Zero? Gaia is Mother Earth, and the tree with the golden apples is an important tree, but just another tree to her because she's the mother of evrerything. Then I was thunderstruck with the idea: Gaia is Od Lagna. Then the Witch Genes (the apples) were produced by the Od Lagna, and given the huge power the Genes have they must be directly connected to it: the Witch Genes can manipulate the basis phenomena building the world. All the people who reach the Od lagna go insane in the same way the miasma of the Genes produces mental corruption: isn't a good idea to put the vastness of the entire world in a little conteiner be it soul or mind. The Genes are the control panel of the mechanics of how the world works.
  97. The easiest way to explain this is with Wrath's Gene but it applies to all the Genes. Minerva could redirect the energy of the whole planet at will, and Sirius could redirect the feelings and perceptions of one person to others. The simple explation to this is their connection to the core of the planet as medium, strengthening prexistent links the Od Lagna has with all the ecosystems and flow of mana. The way Al, Subaru and Pandora rewrite reality is another example: the capacity give shape to the events of the world. This is the territory of gods, and no human should've such an inmense power, but it reached them somehow. Yes, Pandora is the main suspect, and is Volcanica's respomsabiity to recover them, the only possible way he's the owner of the Genes would be the revelation of him being the Creator of that world, but I doubt it.
  98. Roswaal's concerns for Subaru are unnecesary. Subaru´ll never see the bad side of the Od Lagna because he's using the Od Lagna mechanic itself to go back in time. I can't say the same for Flugel/Hector. Even forgetting the creation of a new Gene and the probable new, maybe forbidden, set of rules it can control, we have a pretty serious paradox in our hands. Once you absorb a Gene there is no return, there is no precedent of Witch Genes leaving the body of a living host, and all points to death being the only way to let it free. If Flugel is alive, then he has Acedia's Gene, and Subaru/Al'll create another with the needed fragments: there are 2 copies of Acedia and the Od Lagna is not gleeful about it. I believe Hector used his power to bare minimum when was killing the Witches (other reason of his absence in historic records) because he wanted to stay unnoticed by the Od Lagna, but later, when he was Flugel and made the contract with Volcanica, his anonynity was no longer an option. Volcanica informed about Flugel, and a lot of restrctions were put into him; the Od Lagna will never permit those paradoxal Genes to roam freely, so that he breaks the conditions of the contract, he dies.
  99. Full speculation time: Flugel and Volcanica agreed to set a period of time to make the groundwork to win their bet, concluded that time Flugel will be sealed to safeguard the Od Lagna of malfunctions due to the paradox of the Acedia Gene. Flugel and Volcanica won't have any means to unseal the lock, trusting the job of opening the seal to Satella; once the winner of the bet is decided, Satella'll open the door and Flugel'll meet his fate. But, of course, contracts are engraved in your soul, so Emilia have the key to unseal Flugel as well. You get it? Flugel is sealed in Elior Forest. By the contract, if Flugel is unsealed before there is a winner, he breaks it and drops dead shortly afterwards, then Pandora picks Acedia from Flugel's corpse, goes to the Pleaides Watchtower with Al and kills Satella. The short route to Pandora's victory. Thank goodness Emilia didn't open that door.

  101. 5.2.- Echidna:
  102. Echidna's funerary dress is one of her main physical traits. Taking for granted it has nothing to do with a bizarre fashion sense, then the question is: who is she mourning for? The first answer coming to mind are her friends, the Witches, but that is out of character. She herself said she didn't feel pity for them, as death visit us all some day and is part of living, furthermore, she said all of them lived the way they wanted and had no regrets, so mourning for them should even be an insult to them (I renenber her at some point saying she felt pride in being their friend, but I may be wrong). But we can't say the same for Hector, the Warlock with a burden identical to the other Witches. His tragic past -or future- forced him into a life of constant suffering, doing things he really didn't want to do; betrayals, lies, plottings, murdeerings, and other despicable acts to bring relief to Satella. The greek root for the use of the word acedia comes from the negligence for the deceased related to you (the lack of a burial, for example), specially in nupcial relationships. The corpse of Troy's Hector was dragged in the dust 12 days by Achilles's chariot. Our Hector transformed into a living corpse who doesn't care for the lives he ruined and will ruin for Satella's sake. I believe this is the motive behind the deep hatred Echidna has for Emlia/Satella: her pipe-dreams killed her friendsm but she can tolerate it because the Wiches don't blame her and lived freely, but she'll never forgive how her empty ideals ended up destroying Subaru. Then, she´s mourning Hector and the people he stopped mourning for. And Echidna dress that way because she feels a bond with Hector be it as widow in the nupcial manner (I highly doubt it), be it as a close friend, or be it as a parent with her child (here I'm talking about how Hector's body may has been manufactured by Echidna). All of this depend in the role Omega'll have in the future.
  103. And about Omega. Whether you can't put all the big content in a small container, just make the content smaller. During Hecto's attack, Echidna said her experiment needed for the Sanctury's soil to abosorb Lewes mana, and when Emilia was in the inner chamber of the Tomb ahe said Echidna's coffin was absorbing the mana of the soil. 1+1= Echidna was absorbing Lewes mana. By turning into a more Lewes-ish existence Echidna could transplant her soul into Omega. Her changes between the pronouns boku and watashi, and her mental age (in the dream world Echidna's age was the same as Lewes, I think, thus the discrepancy with the age of the bone and flesh Echidna in the coffin) are facts supporting this. Even so, this doesn't explain how Hector body was made.
  104. With Echidna you always have more questions than answers, like "what the heck with Puck and that scarf?", so I'll not dig into that, but Shaula was opposed to give info about the Merope floor in the Watchtower beacuse the star representing Greed is Merope. This girl really is pulling a lot of strings, isn't she?
  105.
  106. 5.3.- Eos:
  107. This is really far-fetched but here I go. You already know Flugel means "wing", in singular, not plural. If Flugel has Acedia, then he's also Atlas. Atlas was shouldering the celestial heavens in the west side of the world, hence flugel is the left wing. In the east side of the world we have the titaness Eos, goddess of dawn; she is described as having rosy-fingertips, a diadema or tiara, and a saffron tunic adorned with flowers. Additionally, the political term "right-wing" is "dextrum cornu" in latin, and cornu is the word in latin for "horn". Then he right wing of Flugel is... Ram? I mean, it could also be Rem, but saffron is more similar to pink, "eo" is related to wind (the magical affinity of Ram), and the indigenous latin goddess Mater Matuta (the equivalent to Eos in greek mythology) sound a lot like the surname of Roswaal. Is a world without Ram no good? Is for this reason Pandora rewrote reality for a world where Ram was still alive? Is Ram some kind of deity, explaining her absord talent? I have no answers, and this probabl makes no sense.
