No-one was left who could remember how it had happened,
How Valve had fallen under darkness.
At least, no-one who would do anything,
No-one who would speak of Gordon,
No-one who would finish his story,
Or so Dr. Gaben believed.

Twenty floors above the dark streets of the city, Dr. Marc lived in a run-down tenement.
An eccentric and brilliant man,
Marc was a worker, a thinker, a man of ideas.
Ideas forbidden in Gaben’s company.
The company for which he worked.
The company in which he lived.
The company that he would let go.
And so Marc worked, far into the night, when the watchful eyes of Gaben’s interns weren’t upon him.
He’d set his skilful hands to the task of creating a script to bring about a game, to create a story for the Freeman, to create a plot for Half-Life 3.
Nine years Marc worked and on a cold night in the year two-o-one-six, Mr. Laidlaw walked out.
Vaporware, a running joke, a myth of a game as Valve became a bloated monster. Valve became comfy, and fell into shit. Greedy, lazy, and silent.
