  1. Causes of Autism
  2.
  3. The exact cause of autism is unclear, but many theories exist. Some people believe that mercury poisoning is the cause, and parents may choose to postpone vaccinations or even not have them applied at all because of the small amounts of mercury in some vaccines. Some think the disorder is caused by the body’s inability to make proper use of nutrients and vitamins. Other possible causes may be the person’s diet, changes in the digestive tract, or a sensitivity to vaccines. Autism is a disorder that causes a person to perceive the world around them differently from most people. A person with autism may have trouble communicating verbally and using body language. Children with autism may be overly sensitive in the five main senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste). Indications of over sensitivity could include discomfort caused by noises that others do not find loud, complaining of clothing being itchy and refusal to wear said clothes, and distress if they are forced to wear said clothing. Autistic children may also become attached to certain objects and adhere rigidly to routines, becoming distressed when the routine is deviated from.
  4. I think that the most probable cause of autism could be either changes in the dietary tract or the body’s inability to make proper use of vitamins and nutrients. My cousin is autistic and he has had dietary issues since he was born, as well as our family having some issues with disorders and disabilities in the past. When he was younger, he had to be tube fed because his body could not properly digest food. He has also had trouble with physical growth and has a weak immune system, causing him to fall ill more often than others in the household. Other autistic people I have seen have also had issues involving the body’s ability to make effective use of nutrition. It has been proven however that genes play a larger role in causing autism than what I have seen, and I agree that genetics play a major role in causing autism, as our family has autistic family members in the past.
  5. Other possible interpretations of the evidence presented could be that even though a person is diagnosed with autism and they have issues with digestion and nutrition, that is not necessarily the cause of their autism.
