  3. ---
  4. p. 15 - Listen to the fast version of the conversation and underline sounds that are pronounced differently.
  5. ---
  6. flapped ‘t’: in words like “city” and “water”
  7. “Siri” and “city” should sound different. It’s NOT the English ‘r’ sound, but it might sound like ‘r’ in your language.
  8.

  10. atom / Adam - flapped ‘t’ and ‘d’ in these words
  11. attempt - full pronunciation of ‘t’, because the second vowel is stressed
  12.
  13. I’ve got to go. -> I(ve) gotta go. (flapped ‘t’, because “to” is not stressed)
  14.
  15. 20 is often pronounced like “twenny”, “going to” -> “gonna”, “want to” -> “wanna”
  16. If ‘nt’ is between vowels (and the next vowel isn’t stressed), we may not pronounce ‘t’ at all.
  17. 70 - I pronounce it like “sevendy”. It has the sound from “city”, not the sound from “twenty”
  18.
  19. Most of the tens (20, 30, 40, 70, 80, 90) have flapped ‘t’ at the end because “ty” is not stressed.
  20. The teens (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19) have stress on “teen”, so the ‘t’ is pronounced fully.
  21.
  22. (fifty and sixty don’t have vowels before the ‘t’, so we don’t flap the pronunciation)
  23. ---
  24. “interesting” - I pronounce it like “intresting”, so the ‘t’ isn’t between vowels and it gets full pronunciation
  25.
  26. “comfortable” - I pronounce it like “comfterbul”, so the ‘t’ isn’t between vowels again
  27. ---
  28. p. 18 - pronunciation of past tense -ed endings:
  29. decided, needed, visited, wanted - if the verb ends with /t/ or /d/, pronounce the full syllable /əd/
  30. worked, watched, laughed, talked - if the verb ends with a voiceless consonant, pronounce /t/
  31. studied, played, loved, traveled - if the verb ends with a voiced sound, pronounce /d/
  32. ---
  33. part A - underline the instances where the letter ‘t’ will be flapped like a ‘d’
