Accessing the DLC
Kill the hydra in the Darkroot Basin, then kill the Gold Golem far behind it. If the Golem isn't there, quit and reload your save.
Once you've placed the lordvessel, go to the Duke's Archives and kill the lone Blue Golem located near the top of the first lift.
Go back to the spot in the Darkroot Basin where the Gold Golem spawned and enter the portal.

Where to fight? Most standard "duels" happen in the range of SL 100 - 120. Across all three platforms, the biggest hotspot is the Oolacile Township found in the DLC. The burg is also quite active at this level range, as is the Kiln of the First Flame on console.

If you desire invasions and/or lower-level PvP, all of the Lord Soul areas are chock full of unsuspecting players around SL 70. The Duke's Archives see more invasions than the other areas, but there are plenty of people in human form in New Londo, the Demon Ruins/Lost Izalith, and the Tomb of the Giants as well. If you limit yourself to the SL 40-50 range, there are plenty of fights to be had in Anor Londo.

If you have a taste for getting ganged up on, you can hang out in the forest.
