To be a Parselmouth is not a separate Being status or classification; rather, it is a description of someone who has a magical and innate ability to commune with snakes.[/li][li]There are two main ways to learn Parseltongue: the first way is by inheritance from a distant (or not-so) ancestor, as the ability of Parselmouth is frequently genetic; the second way is through decades of strenuous learning and study of the language.[/li][li]The latter method is easier for those who have Parseltongue comprehension (the direct offspring of a genetic Parselmouth).[/li][li]It is rumoured that all Parselmouths are descendants of Salazar Slytherin himself, though how true this rumour is is yet to be seen; Herpo the Foul was capable of speaking Parseltongue and is not known to be related to Slytherin. Regardless, many Parselmouths are from similar families.[/li][li]For a learner, it can take decades to fully master the ability of Parseltongue. As well as this, a Parselmouth will be able to teach close friends very basic commands at the start of their learning, and if the mentee is committed enough, they may be considered for learning the ability as a whole. This is different from Parselmouth comprehension, because understanding and speaking the language are separate.[/li]

[li]It should be noted that no bond with a snake is an immediate one and no Parselmouth should be able to command random snakes at will, although some snakes may take interest and develop respect for Parselmouths and very rarely will take immediate commands from them on the basis of willing to bond from a mutual understanding of their language.[/li][li]Magical Snakes have a higher chance of bonding if they have been raised by them from an egg but if the proper paths are taken to introduce and familiarise said snake they will also be capable of bonding with said person.[/li][li]The offspring of a Parselmouth will have full Parselmouth comprehension and will have an easier time learning the language in its full.
