  1. [20:23] Katrin Weiss says, "Right..."
  2. [20:23] Katrin Weiss says, "Welcome to the Ardent Artificer."
  3. [20:23] Katrin Weiss says, "This here's my shop."
  4. [20:23] Katrin Weiss says, "Expansions're pendin'. Blah blah blah."
  5. [20:23] Ida says, "It's very spacious. I like it."
  6. [20:23] Katrin Weiss says, "Thanks."
  7. [20:23] Rudey sits. He stares.
  8. (Rudey)
  9. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  10.
  11. [20:27] The shop is absolutely chock full of things. Tools, bits of monsters, rare metals, runic scrawls on black boards on the walls. She shuffles in and rummages around through her goods.
  12.
  13. From out of one of the many, many crates she hauls a single, hefty horn. It's set down onto the workspace with a hollow 'thud'.
  14.
  15. "So this here is a horn from some beasty. This is for somethin' for Bang right there," she says with a dull nod. Directly after she reaches among the many sheaves of parchment for one piece in particular.
  16.
  17. A design, a schematic, for not one, but two shotguns. She taps a part that shows the stock in particular. Measurements are detailed out beside the drawing.
  18.
  19. "I need it split in two, for starters. Then shaped to fit these specs. Think ya can do that?
  20.
  21. If you need a minute to examine it, or have it runed in anyway, let me know. I can manage the runework easy 'nough."
  22. (Katrin Weiss)
  23. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  24.
  25. [20:27] {Item} You drop Horn Of Iebis.
  26. [20:31] Ida leans over to peer at the schematics, rubbing at her brow. She takes a couple of seconds to absorb the measurements, lips mouthing them until they're rotely burned into her memory.
  27.
  28. Then she goes on to the horn itself, picking it up and turning it over, running her finger along it, tapping along its length. She's quiet all the while, her hand a little shaky.
  29.
  30. "I might reverse the order, shape it then split it. If that's alright, I mean, miss."
  31. (Ida)
  32. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  33.
  34. [20:33] Katrin is nothing if not respectful and professionally silent as Ida examines the horn. Her unblinking gold eyes watch her closely. Her arms fold over her chest.
  35.
  36. "Hmn. Ain't see no issue with it. I figure you're the expert when it'll come to workin' bones," she mutters, rubbing at her chin.
  37.
  38. "So long as the end result's the same. And its structural integrity ain't damaged and all."
  39. (Katrin Weiss)
  40. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  41.
  42. [20:33] Katrin Weiss says, "Still want it to be able to absorb recoil. And it'll need to be able to do that plenty."
  43. [20:41] "So, is Ban-Bang getting the both of these?"
  44.
  45. Ida brings the horn over to the table and lays it out, taking a seat. Deep inhale, then an exhale.
  46.
  47. She reaches out and lays both her hands on the horn, one on either end. She closes her eyes and subtly writhes her fingers—never leaving contact with the horn, but getting a gentle vibration going.
  48.
  49. That vibration turns into cracking; unpleasant, gut-dropping cracking. It's like hearing someone's bone break in person, but continuously. Calcium and marrow begin to slowly mold, reshaping the horn into a perfectly symmetrical shape that aligns with the dimensions on the schematics.
  50.
  51. Ida takes a break to wipe her brow, clearly anxious about having the spotlight on her in this situation, before she places her two hands back on the bone; one on the top and one on the bottom of where it needs to be split.
  52.
  53. She closes her eyes again and after a few seconds the sound returns, a littlenoisier this time, and after a couple of seconds a perfect slice forms right down the middle of the bone. She gingerly pries the two halves apart, then sets them on the table for Katrin.
  54.
  55. "I hope that's good?"
  56. (Ida)
  57. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  58.
  59. [20:46] The artificer continues to watch. The intensity she observes with is more than a little eerie. For one reason or another the splitting sounds of bone do not bother her. Though it does bring back strange, distant memories that may or may not involve a cracked skull...
  60.
  61. With her critical, keen eye she takes one in each hand. Their weight is measured in her palms.
  62.
  63. "Hmn. Yeah. That'll do," she rumbles offhandedly, brushing her fingers around the edges.
  64.
  65. "Yeah. These're Bang's. And, if I'm lucky, one of the last few orders I'll be doin' for a while. After I finish the other ones I got on my docket." Katrin takes out what looks like a simple iron spike and begins to draw on the two pieces of bone.
  66.
  67. From another sheet of paper she begins to carve runes. Lengthy, spiraling designs intended to further reinforce structural integrity and shock absorption. Shotguns, particularly with shortened barrels, need such a thing.
  68.
  69. Once the sigils are carved, she nods to the stocks again.
  70.
  71. "Since you're here. Can ya do me a favor and smooth over the edges a lil'?"
  72. (Katrin Weiss)
  73. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  74.
  75. [20:53] "Can do," Ida says, enjoying the moment of respite she has while Katrin applies the runes.
  76.
  77. Both her hands extend out again, one on either stock, and she repeats the process—and the noise.
  78.
  79. The bones begin to meld, paper thin shavings of bone peeling off layer by layer over the parts that're too far out. After a bit of this, she takes the remaining excess and smooths it out over the low canyons of the bone. By the time she's done, the stocks are smooth to the touch.
  80.
  81. She leans back once she's done, smiling politely at Katrin.
  82.
  83. "That good?"
  84. (Ida)
  85. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  86.
  87. [20:55] Her keen eye, once again, is put to task. Shavings fall from the stocks, drift to the floor, all to be swept up later surely when the work is said and done.
  88.
  89. A stiff nod of approval. Once more her gloved fingertips brush the pieces made of horn.
  90.
  91. "S'good. Good work. And good work gets paid for," she mutters. A purse emerges from her pocket, pinched between thumb and forefinger.
  92.
  93. It's set onto the table, within arm's reach of Ida.
  94. (Katrin Weiss)
  95. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  96.
  97. [20:55] {Item} Dropped a bag of 2000 Coins.
  98. [20:56] Katrin Weiss says, "Gonna finish puttin' it together now. All of ya can stick around if ya like. But it ain't needed."
  99. [20:56] Katrin Weiss asks, "If I get more bones or horns, could I call on ya again?"
  100. [20:56] Katrin Weiss says, "Hrmn...One sec."
  101. [20:56] Tara Tuffam asks, "Just stoppin' by t' say hi! Bad time?"
  102. [20:56] Katrin Weiss asks, "Hey. Wanna come in?"
  103. [20:56] Katrin Weiss says, "Just a lil' work."
  104. [20:56] Tara Tuffam says, "Oh, sure, sure."
  105. [20:56] Katrin Weiss says, "Actually wanted to talk to ya later."
  106. [20:56] Tara Tuffam says, "I don't mint 't all."
  107. [20:56] Rudey says, "Small world."
  108. [20:56] Ida takes the purse and unceremoniously tosses it into its new home, her satchel.
  109.
  110. "Mh, as long as Ban-Bang and whoever has the remote to my collar is around."
  111. (Ida)
  112. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  113.
  114. [20:56] Tara Tuffam says, "Evenin' lads."
  115. [20:56] Katrin Weiss says, "'Course. "
  116. [20:57] Katrin Weiss says, "Or whenever you're a free woman."
  117. [20:57] Katrin Weiss asks, "...What didjya do to earn that collar?"
  118. [20:57] Ida says, "I have a sylavanum problem."
  119. [20:57] Ida says, "It won't be for a couple of years."
  120. [20:57] Katrin Weiss says, "Ah..."
  121. [20:57] Katrin Weiss says, "Lil' brother had that once."
  122. [20:57] Rudey says, "She'll be able to come around as 'ya need."
  123. [20:57] Ida says, "I'm sorry to hear that, miss."
  124. [20:57] Katrin Weiss says, "S'fine. He got over it."
  125. [20:57] Katrin Weiss says, "Then died. But he got over it."
  126. [20:58] Ida says, "I'm... really sorry to hear, again, miss."
  127. [20:58] Katrin Weiss says, "That's life for ya. "
  128. [20:58] Katrin Weiss says, "Anyway. I wont keep the lot of ya any longer than you wanna be here."
  129. [20:58] Katrin Weiss says, "The rest is boring assembly anyhow."
  130. [20:59] Ida says, "I'm sure Ban-Bang wants to stick around to see it made! It's exciting stuff, when you aren't doing it every day."
  131. [20:59] Tara Tuffam asks, "Comission some work, Pinko?"
  132. [20:59] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "Yea."
  133. [20:59] Katrin Weiss says, "He did a while back. This is the last bit."
  134. [21:00] Tara Tuffam says, "Ah, good, good."
  135. [21:00] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "Rudey, put 'er collar back on."
  136. [21:00] Katrin Weiss says, "But, well...I suppose if any of ya got questions while I'm doin' last steps. Go nuts."
  137. [21:00] Tara Tuffam says, "New piece for my friend, more work for my other friend.. 's good t' see."
  138. [21:00] Katrin Weiss says, "Not often I got this many people here."
  139. [21:00] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "...an' I need to see about Mitsuhide. I'm gonna lose my mind."
  140. [21:00] Tara Tuffam says, "Hrmm.."
  141. [21:00] Tara Tuffam says, "Yea."
  142. [21:00] Tara Tuffam says, "You should."
  143. [21:00] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "Debatin' on if I should just wait or walk over there myself."
  144. [21:01] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "It's lookin' like I'll have to jus' do that."
  145. [21:01] Tara Tuffam says, "The direct approach 'd be it, I imagine."
  146. [21:01] Rudey stands. The collar goes back on, snug around Ida's neck. He seems rather bored, but then, that's the type of face he puts on all the time.
  147.
  148. "Collar on," he informs Bang.
  149. (Rudey)
  150. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  151.
  152. [21:01] Tara Tuffam says, "Ilya appreciates that sort o' thing."
  153. [21:01] Ida boops him on the nose when all is said and done.
  154.
  155. "Thanks."
  156. (Ida)
  157. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  158.
  159. [21:02] Tara Tuffam says, "Good t' see you're not frothin' at the mouth anymore, Ida."
  160. [21:02] Ida says, "Mh, it's good to feel at least a little normal."
  161. [21:02] Ida says, "Thank you, Tara."
  162. [21:02] Rudey says, "Gainful employment, too. 'm pretty sure that's a step of Bang's program s'well."
  163. [21:02] Tara Tuffam says, "Y'mhm."
  164. [21:02] {Item} You picked up Horn Of Iebis. Dropped by Ida..
  165. [21:02] Katrin Weiss has placed Horn Of Iebis into the chest.
  166. [21:02] Tara Tuffam asks, "In fact.. once all is said 'n done here Bang, what say we stroll on over to the manor together?"
  167. [21:03] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "Meh. I'll get to it when I get to it."
  168. [21:04] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "I'm not in the best of moods."
  169. [21:04] While the others mill about, having their idle banter, she turns back to her work. Strangely enough, the white noise is a comfort in what is otherwise a quiet shop. Unless one counted the clatter of metal and the roar of flame.
  170.
  171. From yet another crate, of which there are so damned many, she takes out the other pieces. The barrels she'd made from the arcanium and blood copper mixture, the still, cold eye of the monster, and the attuned crystal.
  172.
  173. Sights go to the crystal first and she hefts up a chisel. Carefully, with a steady hand, she begins to split it in twain along an observed fracture line.
  174.
  175. All the while she hums to herself.
  176. (Katrin Weiss)
  177. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  178.
  179. [21:04] Rudey says, "..huh."
  180. [21:04] Tara Tuffam asks, "Somethin' amiss?"
  181. [21:04] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "Might die before I get to- Never mind that."
  182. [21:04] Rudey asks, "Y'what?"
  183. [21:04] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "Uh. Nah, jus' the usual uh."
  184. [21:04] Bang Kumo Jr. says, "Mind fuckery."
  185. [21:04] Tara Tuffam says, "Ah... so 't goes."
  186. [21:06] A piece of paper, creased and folded, is drawn from a pocket within Tara's cloak. She huffs, looking it over in silence, the lines on her face softening some.
  187. (Tara Tuffam)
  188. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  189.
  190. [21:08] Two halves of a green crystal clatter to opposite sides, and the artificer busies herself with smoothing out the edges with a coarse stone. She lets it sit a while as she turns to her trusty forge and crucible.
  191.
  192. She unceremoniously chucks in the acolyte's rod, heathen that she is, and lets it render down into its composite metals. That was always her favorite part. And, shortly after, in goes the hunk of cosmic mass along with it.
  193.
  194. It roils, it bubbles, and its broken down with a promise. The promise to be made into something better than it once was.
  195.
  196. Once it melts its poured out not into a mold for an ingot, but a shallow tray to encourage its rapid cooling. One would think then, surely, it would be picked up with tongs. And they would be wrong.
  197.
  198. Katrin tugs off her gloves, conjures a surface of volcanic rock over her hands, and picks it right up from where it had just begun to harden. The madwoman works it not like the metal it is, but more like clay. Shaping it rounding it, then flattening it into a disc-like talisman.
  199. (Katrin Weiss)
  200. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  201.
  202. [21:09] Katrin Weiss says, "Good food and drink if any of ya are hungry."
  203. [21:09] Katrin Weiss says, "Figure least I can do is offer food if you're in my shop."
  204. [21:10] Rudey waves a hand. "The forge show's enough, thanks," he states. His eyes are keenly locked onto the process she's putting the materials through.
  205. (Rudey)
  206. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  207.
  208. [21:11] Tara Tuffam says, "Fah.. 's too hospitable Miss Kay, but 'm fine, thank ya."
  209. [21:13] The other half of the room had gone quiet, which had evaded her concern if not her notice. While the metal is still warm it is pressed onto the exterior of one of the stocks, so that when held it would be visible.
  210.
  211. "Yeah, well. Enjoy the show, but be aware I ain't doin' this for your entertainment," she warns gruffly.
  212.
  213. The watching eyes don't deter her at all. She's good and she damn well knows it. Katrin gives the eye a similar treatment, burning a little divot into the exterior of the paired stock to set the eye into neatly.
  214.
  215. It doesn't quiver, it doesn't move. The orb stares blankly out at the world. A shame.
  216.
  217. "Ain't no trouble at all, miss Tara. There's rules to this. Gotta' follow 'em, y'know?" Even still, a sucker for the codes of True Therian Hospitality.
  218. (Katrin Weiss)
  219. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  220.
  221. [21:13] * You have been awarded 1 Roleplay Points! *
  222. [21:13] Katrin Weiss says, "If you all are wantin' to skedaddled. I'm just 'bout done anyway. That was the bulk of it...Now it's just slappin' on the barrels."
  223. [21:15] Rudey says, "I just think it's interestin' lookin', not usin' you as a performance or nothin'. Maybe I just like glowy, firey things."
  224. [21:15] Katrin Weiss says, "Got good taste then."
  225. [21:15] Katrin Weiss says, "...Shiny, glowy things're some of the best things 'round."
  226. [21:15] Rudey says, "Can't disagree there."
  227. [21:19] The project itself had been a larger undertaking. A bit of an experiment in some ways. Different parts had imbued in different ways. The barrel in particular. The base components themselves had been augmented with care, from disparate experts.
  228.
  229. The hope? A better product, of course. Another work of art.
  230.
  231. The firing mechanisms, the barrels, had already been taken care of. Pre-assembled and waiting for just such an occasion. She looms, hunched over her work station, and starts to assemble the final pieces.
  232.
  233. A few arcanium rivets for fastening are heated with her thumb and pressed into the waiting, freshly carved horn stock.
  234.
  235. She lets the collective works, the two sawn off shotguns, rest a moment as she wipes sweat from her brow.
  236.
  237. Another day. Another implement of destruction born into the world.
  238. (Katrin Weiss)
