  1. BEFORE.
  2.
  3. "10-33. All available units to 428 Lincoln Blvd. Shots fired." Officer Brennan Carter had only been three blocks away when the dispatcher radioed for all available units in the area. It was a 10-33, meaning officers were in danger and needed backup as soon as possible. Brennan had been working alone that day, but he took the call anyways: mostly because he hated the idea of fellow officers in danger. "Unit 89606 responding to 10-33."

  5. It had only taken him four minutes to arrive at the scene. Brennan knew the place well: it was an old warehouse that had been shut down six months before. There had been a group of drug traffickers using it to store and distribute a considerable amount of narcotics. Brennan remembered it well, because it had been one of the largest drug busts in California history, plus he had worked undercover for the case as well. Three cruisers had arrived before Brennan and more were still coming: police had a way of coming together when one of their own was in danger.

  8. "What's going on?" he asked while approaching a group of officers who were watching the building closely. "We're not too sure of the details, but we do know it's two rookies in there. We have no idea how many shooters are in the building." Brennan sighed and looked towards the warehouse. "We need to get in there right now." He knew protocol was to sit by and wait for more help to arrive, but he couldn't just leave two rookie officers to handle it on their own. "I'm going in." Two other officers agreed to go in with him. The others would cover every window and door just in case some low life tried to escape.

  11. Glock in hand, Brennan entered the building first, followed closely by the two other officers. He could hear voices, though it was impossible to make out what they were saying.

  21. It wasn't unusual for those who worked in law enforcement to be harassed. After all, they put away the unhinged criminal types every single day. Brennan himself had been targeted a time or two, but this was different: whoever was coming after Eloise wasn't just looking to scare her - they had put way too much effort into it all. "Can you think of anyone who might want to hurt you? Have you made any arrests lately where the person made threats?" These were the standard questions for any officer who might be experiencing a stalker situation.
  22.
  23.
  24. "What about phone calls? Have you received anything out of the ordinary? This person could have been doing this for longer than you know. Experience has taught us that stalkers generally start off with something so subtle you might have completely missed it." Brennan breathed deeply and looked at Eloise. He didn't wanna put his friend through all of this, but it needed to be done. "Come on, El. Think about it."
