  1. If one thought about it, Kamijou’s ability to negate only the enemy’s magic and Thor’s direct firepower was the ideal combination for that method.
  2.
  3. But like in all things, what mattered most was timing.
  4.
  5. Now that the proper timing had been lost, they would have no chance to play the hand they had collected.
  6.
  7. He needed to change his thought process.
  8.
  9. To deal with those powerful enemies as they were gathered in one place, Thor wanted to meet up with Kamijou Touma. But to do that, he needed something that would distract the focus of Cendrillon and her intense hatred of Gremlin. But he had few pawns available to him.
  10.
  11. If Cendrillon saw anyone from Gremlin, she would likely explode.
  12.
  13. That meant Mjölnir was no good. And Marian Slingeneyer was most definitely out of the question. But who else did Thor know?
  14.
  15. “…Found someone. I know that face from the FCE”
  16.
  17. Thor grinned as he looked around from atop the water storage tank.
  18.
  19. After performing a simple task on his cell phone, he unhesitatingly jumped from the tank. He was not jumping to the concrete floor of the roof. He jumped past the edge of the roof and down towards the ground where the people looked like mere specks.
  20.
  21. Ignoring the artificial wind pressure blowing up from below, he prepared his legs for the landing.
  22.
  23. Just before impact, arc fusion blades shot forcefully out from the bottom of his feet. The air violently expanded and rapidly lowered the speed of his fall.
  24.
  25. He had no time to spare.
  26.
  27. Thor ignored the crowd that was beginning to make a commotion over his appearance, raised a hand, and called out to his target with a smile.
  28.
  29. “Hey there, Miko-chan. How are you doing?”
  30.
  31. “Who are you!? Don’t just start talking to me like we’re friends!!”
  32.
  33. The girl shouting as bluish-white sparks flew from her bangs was Misaka Mikoto, Academy City’s #3 Level 5.
  34.
  35. Technically, Thor had never met Misaka Mikoto, but he had thoroughly investigated her speech patterns using the FCE footage of her conversations in Hawaii in order to disguise himself as her. It would not be difficult to ad lib some way of getting her to do what he wanted.
  36.
  37. And so…
  38.
  39. Thor opened up his foreign-made cell phone to show her the small screen and he immediately got to the core of the issue.
  40.
  41. “I happen to have a photo of your friend Kamijou Touma-kun doing his usual thing by being nursed to health by some mysterious little blonde girl. What do you think about that?”
  42.
  43. “Tell me right this instant where he is.”
  44. [-]
  45. “Why?” muttered Misaka Mikoto as she toyed with her hair on the road at the top level.
  46.
  47. It might have been due to the unique population distribution of the Ichihanaransai or it might have been due to someone setting up some kind of trick, but the amount of traffic had disappeared to an unnatural extent.
  48.
  49. “Why do I have to go along with what you say? Are you seriously asking a girl to help you in a fight? Come to think of it, I can’t think of a single reason I have to go along with this.”
  50.
  51. The asphalt continued on and on and on like a runway.
  52.
  53. Someone stood further down the road.
  54.
  55. She had white feathers decorating her hair. She wore a short dress with pants forcibly worn underneath, a bulletproof vest, and protectors covering her elbows and knees. It gave her the silhouette of armor. And on top of it all, she had an unnaturally large sword called a claymore hanging down from her hand. It looked like she was holding one of the steel sheets used in construction.
  56.
  57. As she walked, the tip of the sword…or rather, the “corner” audibly scraped across the surface of the asphalt.
  58.
  59. Her name was Brunhild Eiktobel.
  60.
  61. Without even trying to hide her killer intent or aggression, the blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman asked a question in a flat voice.
  62.
  63. “Are you my enemy?”
  64.
  65. “It’s kind of hard to say.”
  66.
  67. Mikoto then heard a voice from behind her.
  68.
  69. She was standing back to back with the Lightning God Thor who was in charge of direct combat within Gremlin.
  70.
  71. He was facing a different enemy.
  72.
  73. “C’mon, Miko-chan.”
  74.
  75. “I told you not to call me that! Who the hell are you anyway!?”
  76.
  77. “They have formed a group to beat the shit out of Kamijou Touma, who has already been shot in the side, and then abduct a woman named Fräulein Kreutune before his eyes. And they’ll be whispering to Fräulein Kreutune that she’ll be happiest if they use her for their purposes and then kill her. So what do you think, Miko-chan? Do you approve of that? Do you oppose it? Or will you take the clever route and just look away? Which side do you want to stand on?”
  78.
  79. “…”
  80.
  81. Mikoto sighed.
  82.
  83. With an annoyed tone in her voice, she said, “So it’s the same pattern as always.”
  84.
  85. “Now you’re catching on.”
  86.
  87. “I guess he hasn’t changed at all even after disappearing in Hawaii and heading to that Baggage City place.”
  88.
  89. “I heard that was a horrible battlefield, but it seems he still managed to save some lives. I have no room to talk…in fact, you could say I’m just as much to blame…but Kamijou Touma is trying to finish things with the person you could call the primary cause of all this. Will you support him? Or will you get in his way?”
  90.
  91. “Tch.”
  92.
  93. There was plenty she wanted to say.
  94.
  95. But Mikoto just gave up and lightly clicked her tongue.
  96.
  97. She did so because she had seen it. She had seen the look of anguish on a certain boy’s face after the incident in Hawaii had come to an end and he had realized he had been made to act for someone else’s purposes. He had fought, struggled, had some coincidences work in his favor, and had finally managed to reach a place where he could bring an end to the string of nightmares for which he had pulled the trigger himself. This was a one-of-a-kind situation that would never come again if he let it escape him here.
  98.
  99. So now what should Mikoto do?
  100.
  101. No, what did she want to do?
  102.
  103. She did not even hesitate.
  104.
  105. Bluish-white sparks flew from her bangs.
  106.
  107. She slowly turned back to face Brunhild Eiktobel who was still approaching.
  108.
  109. “You owe me one.”
  110.
  111. “Shouldn’t you be saying that to Kamijou-kun?”
  112.
  113. “It’s embarrassing, so I’m saying it here where he can’t hear me.”
  114. [-]
