42. In The International, Interpol Agent Louis Salinger and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman are determined to bring to justice one of the world's most powerful banks. Uncovering illegal activities including money laundering, arms trading, and the destabilization of governments, Salinger and Whitman's investigation takes them from Berlin to Milan to New York and to Istanbul. Finding themselves in a high-stakes chase across the globe, their relentless tenacity puts their own lives at risk as the bank will stop at nothing - even murder - to continue financing terror and war.
 43. The Interpol Agent Louis Salinger and his partner are investigating the International Bank of Business and Credit (IBBC). This investigation is with with the District Attorney, Eleanor Whitman, from Manhattan in a two hundred million dollars illegal business of weapons trading. They schedule a meeting with an insider informer from IBBC at the Central Station in Berlin; however his partner is mysteriously killed after the encounter. Salinger finds the identity of the informer when he sees that the Vice President of Acquisitions AndrΓ© Clement had died in a car accident. Salinger and Whitman head to Milan where they meet the politician Umberto Calvini, who is a big arms manufacturer, and he explains that IBBC is interested in buying the missile guiding system that he produces in his factory. When Calvini is murdered by a sniper in a political rally, Salinger and Whitman head to New York following the killer and later to Istanbul, and disclose a scheme of arms supply and destabilization of governments to make their nations slaves of debt. Further, the bank is protected by legal systems and only if Salinger crosses the line he might bring some justice to the corrupt system.
 44. The only thing I liked about the movie was the shooting part in which is involved the leading (Clive Owen), this scene is great but the rest of the movie is boring.

I know this film shows us how the world really works but it could have been made more entertaining, or at least in a shorter time (118 minutes is too much), I think 100 minutes would have been much better. On the other hand I have to say that the performances were good.

Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) is an Interpol agent who wants to bring to justice one of the world's most powerful banks for money laundering and arms trading but he will find this goal very difficult and dangerous ......

6 stars = regular

(note: Without the shooting scene I would have given it 5 stars = bad or boring)
 45. Potentially there is quite a few things to be found here. Under the surface so to speak. A thriller, especially this, has to be careful not to drift into TV movie of the week category. Actors wise it doesn't seem to have this problem.

But then again Naomi Watts doesn't really get utilized and even the charismatic Clive Owen, can't do everything by himself. While it has a strong mystery beginning, that keeps you guessing and keeps you kinda thrilled, it never get's really great.

And with the ending ... well endings can save or destroy a movie. In this case, neither happens. It just fits into the mood of the movie and stays mediocre. And it's a shame, because the ending could/should have been emotionally more involving (I'm not saying why, you have to watch the movie or read that in another review with spoilers), but it unfortunately doesn't achieve just that ...
 46. Both actors (Owens and Watts) seem mildly aggrieved (and not at all convincing) at having to play characters considerably less intelligent than themselves in a movie that plays even dumber.
 47. The International is an original screenplay by screenwriter Eric Singer. The screenplay is supposedly based on two financial corporationsβ€”the Canadian-based Permindex Trade Organization and the Pakistani-based Bank of Credit and Commerce International. The title refers to the International Bank of Business and Credit, a powerful international bank that is involved in illegal activities and corruption. a5c7b9f00b
