  1. >You seem to be on the ground
  2. >Pinned down by Chrysalis, who's horn and eyes are lit in a sickly shade of green
  3. >Twilight, Cadence, and Shining Armor are here too
  4. >You seem to be outside,in what used to be the middle of a crystal street
  5. >No ponies are near likely fled from the carnage
  6. >Blast marks are evident everywhere
  7. >The other ponies are just starting to stir
  8. >As though just regaining consciousness
  9. I-is he stopped?
  10. >Cadence is the first to speak
  11. >Chrysalis's glow dies down, and is looking at you wearily
  12. >You want to answer, but you have to know something else first
  13. H... How long?
  14. >You corak out, feeling weak
  15. >A confused look is all you get
  16. I.... kicked him out... How long... Has it been?
  17. >Speaking is hard for you
  18. >Whatever happened when he had your body has you worn down to extreme levels
  19. >Finally, she answers you
  20. About 13 hours
  21. >Fuck
  22. >Time had no meaning in that place
  23. >It seemed like much more than mere hours
  24. >In fact, it felt like solid centuries
  25. >And with that, you give up the struggle to even sit straight
  26. >At that point, everyone is up
  27. Di-Did she win?
  28. >Shining asks, looking at you and Chrysalis
  29. >You may not be able to move, but you can still speak
  30. >You suppress a grin
  31. >In the loudest whisper you can manage, you say
  32. I know you're happy to see me, but this is embarrassing...
  33. >That did the trick
  34. >She shoots backwards off of you, looking flustered
  35. >Twilight is hiding a giggle, Cadence has that smirk again, and Shining isn't even trying to hide his laughter
  36. >Though, with the pressure of hooves off your knees and shoulders, you feel much more relaxed
  37. >But even if you tried, you wouldn't be able to doze off
  38. >In what felt like an eternity in that cage again, you had more than time to think
  39. >Think about a certain someone
  40. >Looking at her again, you can now confirm it
  41. >You missed her
  42. >Terribly
  43. >Despite all that time, you still can't sort out your feelings for her
  44. >After the laughter falls away, Twilight speaks up
  45. Is he gone? Did you defeat him?
  46. >You finally sit up and shake your head
  47. He left just before I could
  48. >Then you remember what else he told you
  49. And he gave me a riddle
  50. >A glance is shared by the whole group
  51. One thousand paces; One thousand faces
  52. Ten hundred to defend; Ten hundred ways to meet your end
  53. >Everyone looks confused
  54. >Everyone except for Twilight
  55. That's...the millennium path! It's said to take 1000 paces to reach, and you'll meet a thousand new faces along the way!
  56. >A memory starts to emerge
  57. >Another fragment, but this one is fuzzy
  58. >Slowly gaining focus
  59. >Something... Before
  60. >That's it
  61. >Before being trapped
  62. >You had wandered the underworld alone
  63. >You sat by the Styx and plucked things out of it
  64. >Beloved possessions, dreams, and other such artifacts wind up there after people die and give them up
  65. >One time there was a book
  66. >It talked about the true spirit's path
  67. >One thousand paces to reach, from where you start
  68. >And one thousand souls to light the way
  69. >That book was one of the things you had put in a little stash somewhere along the Styx
  70. >You briefly wonder if it's still there
  71. >But you do understand one thing
  72. >You can't just start anywhere, like the myths said
  73. >You can't remember where you have to start, but you know it's in that book that you stashed
  74. >You come out of your nostalgia fog and find 2 ponies in an argument
  75. My books tell me you can get there from anywhere!
  76. >Twilight declares at Chrysalis
  77. Then they lie. The entrance has long been lost to time
  78. >Chrysalis retorts
  79. >You decide to interrupt
  80. Chrysalis is half right
  81. >Predictably, they stop bickering and look to you, still lying on the ground
  82. You can't just start anywhere. I'll explain what I know later
  83. >You pause
  84. For now, can we get inside somewhere? Street rubble isn't comfortable
  85. >Cadence lets out an audible laugh at this
  86. >Everyone agrees, and some time later, you fall asleep on a cushioned couch
  87. >....
  88. >....
  89. >You are by the Styx
  90. >You know you're dreaming, but you don't mind
  91. >You're enjoying the activity of recovering the hopes and dreams of other souls and giving them the honor of being remembered
  92. >You find a pocket watch that plays a melody from a music box inside when you open it
  93. >You take time to imagine what the person who made it must have been like, wish their soul wellness, and throw it back
  94. >After that, you fish out a beat up old captain's hat, that's clearly seen many sights at sea
  95. >You put it on and keep looking
  96. >This goes on for a while; sometimes keeping things, usually throwing it back in
  97. >Just as you put on a necklace with a beautifully detailed silver moon, a voice speaks up from behind you
  98. Ah. I remember making that for my sister
  99. >You tense up, at first, then relax
  100. >Her voice is calm and sincere
  101. >You turn a bit to see who it is, and are surprised with who you see
  102. Luna
  103. >She's surprised at this, but you pay her no mind and continue looking for things in the Styx
  104. How do you know who I am?
  105. >An elegant cane inscribed with carvings of what seem like events
  106. >This man had lived many full years
  107. >You set it beside you and keep going
  108. Somebody tried to fool me with a disguise. Said he was you
  109. >A baseball covered in signatures
  110. >You give it one last pitch down the river line
  111. Why are you in my dream?
  112. >You say as you fish out a long red trench coat with tattered ribbon-like ends from the waist and a slightly torn left sleeve
  113. >Standing to put it on, it fit comfortably
  114. >Combined with the hat, the high collar hides your face well
  115. >You turn to face Luna, half wondering what you look like with just your eyes showing
  116. >After a moment, she answers
  117. Most dreams I see are not like your's now, where you are re-living your past
  118. >Re-living?
  119. >Had you collected these things before?
  120. I can also tell that you will be coming to this place again
  121. >That's true
  122. >To find the entrance to the place, you'd have to find your stash for that book
  123. Your point?
  124. >She seems taken aback by this
  125. Are you not afraid? These dreams usually represent fear of what's to come...
  126. >Hmm
  127. >Makes a little sense, you suppose
  128. >You turn back to the river, and resume the fishing
  129. If anything, I'm worried about what will happen when I encounter him again...
  130. >Sombra had displayed his power, and when you look back on it, you're almost certain that that punch didn't bother him as much as he made it look
  131. >He may well have been trying to ploy for time to escape
  132. >Which he did
  133. >You barely register the fact that the walls and ceiling showed the memories of your encounter with him
  134. >How he got away, and the riddle
  135. >Luna must have watched it, because she gasps
  136. Sombra?! You are going to confront Sombra?!
  137. >You understand the concern
  138. >From what you do know, he's well reputable as a terrible being, bent on total rule
  139. >But she doesn't know who you are
  140. >And what you've defeated
  141. >Once again, your memories flash on the walls
  142. >The escape from that damned cage
  143. >But it doesn't stop there
  144. >Something that you don't remember is playing on the walls, much to your surprise
  145. >It's after you dropped from the cage and into the Lethe
  146. >You see yourself swim to the shore, and come out with a blank look on your face
  147. >You watch yourself aimlessly wander, eventually finding a door
  148. >Every so often, another drop of the river comes off your clothes and touches you, giving you a blank look again
  149. >You watch yourself pick something up next to a door
  150. >A piece of crystal, barely bigger than a dime
  151. >You put it in your pocket, and another drop hits
  152. >You walk out and see yourself in a forest
  153. >Not only that, but in the middle of an abandoned camp with bodies everywhere
  154. >You keep watching as you come across a hydra's nest
  155. >You see yourself stop and look at the eggs, and something happens
  156. >A red horn comes out of the ground, followed by a black gaseous body
  157. >It destroys the eggs coming out of the ground, and turns to you
  158. >Another drop takes effect, and then a roar is heard
  159. >The mother hydra is angry, and tearing through the camp
  160. >The black fog then seeps into the hydra, taking it over
  161. >Then it sets after you
  162. >You run away, the last of the drops hitting you
  163. >You see yourself trip and knock yourself unconscious, just after gaining a head start
  164. >Then last drop on you hit you
  165. >And that's where the "flashback" ends
  166. >Luna is stunned, and so are you
  167. >You finally understand how you got here
  168. >You managed to walk right out of the underworld, and into the living
  169. >You turn to ask Luna how you can see something you don't remember, but she has left
  170. >And another voice is calling at you
  171. Anon? Anon wake up.
  172. >You stir, and the dream starts fading away, the items you recovered from the Styx vanishing, and sensation from reality returning
  173. >You wake up to Shining nudging you
  174. Good, you're awake
  175. >You sit up on the couch and see that everyone has gathered
  176. You went still for a moment
  177. >Twilight says
  178. >You glance at the faces of each one, and see a slight apprehension in all
  179. >Then you start to tell them the current plan...
