  1. >"I can't believe I'm doing this."
  2. >She stood right in front of her sister's door.
  3. >She raised her hand to knock, but found it frozen inches from the door.
  4. >"Cmon, stop being such a coward!"
  5. >She sighed.
  6. >How was this so hard?
  7. >She couldn't begin to imagine her sister's reaction to her request.
  8. >In fact, she wagered she would never see it coming.
  9. >She might even think she was joking.
  10. >But this was no joke
  11. >Maybe to them, but not to her.
  12. >"Ugh!" She groaned.
  13. >'Stop being a baby!' she admonished herself
  14. >She shook of her nerves and raised her hand again.
  15. >Almost forcing herself, she rapped lightly on the door.
  16. >'Coward! That wasn't a knock and you know it!' she thought to herself.
  17. >Her courage faltering, she began to turn back to her room.
  18. >Just as the door opened.
  19. >Lori looked up from her phone to see who had knocked.
  20. >"Lynn?"
  21. >She paused mid stride.
  22. >It looked like her decision was made for her.
  23. >"What is it?" Lori asked, still texting away.
  24. >Lynn could feel her face burning.
  25. >"Uh... is Leni in there?"
  26. >"Yeah, cmon in."
  27. >Lori closed the door behind her.
  28. >Getting into Lori and Leni's room was like getting into a military base.
  29. >You only got in if you had a good reason.
  30. >Lynn was actually surprised simply asking for Leni had worked.
  31. >Although, her interactions with her older sisters were usually limited to start with.
  32. >Perhaps Lori had sensed her urgency, or her obvious embarrassment.
  33. >She found Leni at her sewing machine, happily stitching together what looked like a dress, or maybe a blouse, Lynn couldn't tell.
  34. >"Leni, twerp for you." Lori said, taking a seat on her bed and continuing to text.
  35. >Lynn ignored the comment as Leni stopped sewing.
  36. >"Hi Lynn!" she said happily.
  37. >Lynn looked at the floor, rubbing her left arm
  38. >"Yeah, uh... can I ask you something?"
  39. >"Sure!" Leni replied.
  40. >Her sister's attitude never seemed to dull, no matter what.
  41. >"Uhm...I, um... am I..."
  42. >The hesitation in her voice pulled Lori away from her phone.
  43. >"Am I... pretty?"
  44.
  45. >Lori and Leni looked at each other nervously.
  46. >Silence permiated the room as Lynn waited anxiously for a reply.
  47. >"Taking this long to answer isn't helping!" Lynn shouted angrily.
  48. >She knew this had been a stupid idea from the get go.
  49. >Her fists shook with anger as she turned to leave
  50. >"Lynn wait!" Leni and Lori shouted after her in unison.
  51. >Her back was turned to them. All she had to do was walk out of their room and there wouldnt be a damn thing either of them could do to stop her.
  52. >Lynn felt the sting of tears welling in her eyes
  53. >She never let any of her siblings see her cry.
  54. >She was supposed to be the tough one!
  55. >Something compelled her to stay put, and she wasn't sure what.
  56. >"Lynn, you are, but... in your own way. Since when do you care?" Lori asked, genuinely curious.
  57. >How could she explain herself?
  58. >In her mind, a realization at school today brought on all of this self-consciousness.
  59. >"I, just..." Lynn sighed, wiping the tears away from her eyes as she struggled to compose herself.
  60. >Lynn sat down next to Lori and Leni joined them.
  61. >"It seems like all the other girls are getting... you know..."
  62. >Lynn held her hands in front of her chest.
  63. >Lori nodded, but Leni stared blankly.
  64. >"Hands?" Leni asked.
  65. >"Boobs, Leni." Lori deadpanned
  66. >"Oooohhhh" she replied.
  67. >"So you don't have boobs, so what?" Lori said, patting her on the back. "You'll get them eventually. I had to wait until I was fifteen!"
  68. >"The boobs aren't all of it," Lynn answered.
  69. >"Me and my friends used to just care about sports, but now they're all talking about boys and crap, and getting boyfriends and me..." Lynn sniffed up a tear as one rebellious drop rolled down her cheek.
  70. >"I'm still just one of the guys..."
  71. >Leni and Lori pulled her into a hug sandwich.
  72. >Ordinarily, she hated earnest displays of emotion or any of that girly romantic junk.
  73. >But choosing to turn down male attention, and not getting any at all, were too different things.
  74. >"You are pretty, Lynn." Leni whispered.
  75.
  76. >"You just need to work with what you have!" Lori completed.
  77. >"I don't have much..." Lynn admitted in a rare moment of humility.
  78. >"Nonsense," Lori said, standing from the bed. "I don't have any ugly siblings."
  79. >Leni could hardly contain her excitement as she hopped off the bed and began digging through her closet.
  80. >Lynn watched as Leni reappeared from the closet with what appeared to be a large tackle box with Lynn's name on it
  81. >"I like, totes knew this day would come!"
  82. >Leni opened it and a variety of decidedly un-Lynn clothing and accessories burst forth from it
  83. >Lori smiled. "You aren't just gonna be 'one of the boys' anymore. When we're done, your friends will literally not even recognize you."
  84. >Lynn gulped. She was just thinking about wearing her hair differently or something.
  85. >"First thing's first." Leni said, positioning Lynn in front of their floor length mirror as she stood behind her.
  86. >"I may not be smart at like, stuff, but I'm way smart at being pretty."
  87. >Leni pulled out the scrunchie in her little sister's hair as her brunette locks tumbled down to her shoulders.
  88. >"See? Already working!" Leni said as Lori supervised from the bed.
  89. >"Now, I know you love this smelly old jersey, but you can totes do better," Leni said happily.
  90. >Lori started laying out ensembles for Lynn to try on.
  91. >"Arms up!" Leni said, raising her signature jersey up over her head before she could stop her.
  92. >"Leni!" Lynn shouted, covering her chest with her hands.
  93. >"Relax, we used to change your diaper, we've seen worse than your boobs, Lynn." Lori said, holding up a skirt and a top to decide if it matched with Lynn's eyes.
  94. >Lynn turned back around to the mirror and slowly lowered her hands.
  95. >She might as well have been looking at her brother's chest.
  96. >"Now, don't let your girls get you down. They might not be much now, but I promise you they will be." Lori said.
  97. >Her older sister held a shirt and matching skirt up to her.
  98. >"What do you think?"
  99. >"No skirts, no way!"
  100.
  101. >"Fine, no skirts." Lori moaned, checking for alternatives in the closet.
  102. >"What about dresses?" Leni asked.
  103. >"A dress is just a skirt for your whole body!" Lynn replied.
  104. >"Look, you have to give us something to work with here," Lori said, tapping her foot impatiently
  105. >"I know!" Leni interjected with a snap of her fingers. "What about these jeans and this blouse?"
  106. >Lynn considered the pairing. She didn't mind jeans, and the blouse wasn't bad either. It was trimmed with lace around the neck and shoulders, kind of like Leni's.
  107. >It was more elegant than a tee shirt, but not quite as fancy as a dress.
  108. >"Okay, I like it."
  109. >"Yay!" Leni cheered.
  110. >"Now that we've got the clothes figured out, let's focus on the girl."
  111. >Lynn raised an eyebrow
  112. >"Wh-what do you mean?"
  113. >"How much product do you use in your hair?" Leni chimed in from behind them as she packed up her extra clothes and accessories.
  114. >"What's product?" Lynn replied.
  115. >Both girls let out a heavy sigh
  116. >"Looks like we've got some work to do," Lori said, handing Lynn the clothes she had picked out.
  117. >"Now, put your shirt back on and come with us to the bathroom. We've got some hair washing to do."
  118. >Before she knew it, Lynn had her head over the sink as her sisters mixed in all kinds of fruity scented shampoos and conditioners.
  119. >Lynn kept her eyes shut tight to avoid the sting of the products as they rinsed and repeated.
  120. >At some point, Lynn heard another voice.
  121. >"What are you guys doing to Lynn's head?" Lana asked standing in the doorway of the bathroom.
  122. >"Does she have lice?" The younger sister asked hopefully.
  123. >"No, Lana, we're like, helping make Lynn pretty!"
  124. >"Leni!" Lori scolded. "Lynn is already pretty. We're just bringing it out."
  125. >Lana didn't seem to care.
  126. >"So no one has lice?" she asked, crestfallen.
  127. >Her interest now lost completely, Lana left them to their work.
  128. >Just as Lynn's neck started to cramp, the water from the sink shut off.
  129.
  130. >Her sisters raised her head from the sink.
  131. >Lynn focused on her reflection in the mirror.
  132. >She looked more like the girl from the ring than the high-speed athlete that usually stared back at her.
  133. >She parted her bangs to reveal one eye, her sisters smiling back at her from the mirror.
  134. >"Now, shower up, and meet us back in our room for phase two," Lori said as she and Leni gave their younger sister some privacy.
  135. >Lynn grabbed a bit of her hair and held it up to her nose.
  136. >Things like perfume or girly smells were far from her style.
  137. >In fact, the only flowery smelling thing she ever wore was deodorant, and she didn't really have a choice since it was primarily for women.
  138. >But, she had to admit that her hair smelled pretty good.
  139. >'Egh, is this what boys like?' she wondered to herself.
  140. >It was a bit too intense for her, but if anyone knew what guys were into, it was Lori and Leni.
  141. >Lynn pulled her top off and caught her reflection in the mirror again.
  142. >Her mom had made a big deal out of getting her a training bra, which embarassed her to no end.
  143. >She never wore it, she just threw on an undershirt if it was a cold day outside.
  144. >Even though she knew her mother didn't mean it that way, Lynn viewed it as an insult.
  145. >A cruel practical joke, like buying a pair of gloves for a man with no hands, or taking a blind person to a movie.
  146. >She glared at her breasts again, now that no one was around.
  147. >She hated them, and their refusal to grow.
  148. >All her friends had at least SOMETHING to fill out their bras in the locker-room.
  149. >But there was Lynn Loud, flat as a board, and invisible to almost every boy at her school.
  150. >Unless she was beating their ass at just about any sport, that is.
  151. >She sighed and stared down at her freckled chest.
  152. >Lynn remembered what her sister had said, about them coming in eventually.
  153. >She hated that word.
  154.
  155. >What did eventually even mean? What kind of time reference was that?
  156. >She hooked her thumbs in the waistband of her shorts and pushed them down.
  157. >Lynn looked down at the ordinary undies clinging to her boyish frame.
  158. >She'd done laundry a time or two before, and knew what her older, more attractive sister's wore.
  159. >Theirs had lace, girl colors and in some cases she hardly considered it underwear at all!
  160. >'Maybe this is part of the problem...' she thought, although she had no intention of showing anyone her panties anytime soon, maybe she didn't feel pretty was because she didn't treat herself like she was.
  161. >Lynn removed her underwear and turned around, but not before giving her glutes a flex.
  162. >'Well, at least I've got something back there,' she thought before climbing in the shower.
  163. >She let the warm water soothe her as she let it rinse the dirt of the day away.
  164. >Ordinarily, showers were a quick affair.
  165. >Get wet, apply soap, rinse off, done.
  166. >This time the value pack of industrial sized unisex bodysoap just wouldn't cut it.
  167. >She looked around the edges of the tub, spying leg razors, and various hygiene products she swore she had never taken the time to even notice before.
  168. >Lynn glanced down at her own legs as the water cascaded down them.
  169. >Not a hair to be found on her anywhere but her head.
  170. >Even though all of her older sisters lamented the act of shaving, she felt like it was a privilege she was missing out on.
  171. >With a Lucy-like sigh, she took one of the colorful bottles out of Leni's shower caddy and squirted some of the pink goo onto her palm.
  172. >As she lathered it up and began to cover herself, more of the fruity smell began to fill her nose
  173. >She rinsed off the suds and killed the water.
  174. >Lynn found a towel and dried herself off, before wrapping it around her at the chest.
  175. >She nearly considered wrapping it at the waist like boys did.
  176. >After all, what did she have to hide?
  177.
  178. >She wrapped the towel around her chest as a lady should, then found another towel to wrap around her hair.
  179. >Lynn stepped out of the bathroom and made the quick journey to Leni and Lori's room.
  180. >Leni already had two completely foreign contraptions plugged into the wall by her bed.
  181. >"What are those?" Lynn asked nervously.
  182. >"This is like, my X4500 series blow dryer and curling iron combo, duh!" Leni replied, as though the answer should have been obvious.
  183. >"Don't worry, I'll make sure she doesn't get carried away." Lori whispered to her as she guided her over to the bed.
  184. >"Hey, Leni, can you go get my old nail polish collection from the attic?" Lori asked.
  185. >Lynn inhaled to protest, but Lori covered her mouth.
  186. >"Totally!" Leni replied, passing the hairdryer/curling iron combo to her older sister as she left the room.
  187. >"You're not putting that gunk on my nails." Lynn said matter-of-factly after Lori removed her hand.
  188. >Lori took a seat behind her sister and produced a hairbrush from her nightstand.
  189. >"Relax, I just sent her on an errand so we could talk."
  190. >Lynn gulped nervously
  191. >"Talk?" She parroted
  192. >"About what?"
  193. >Lori peered over Lynn's shoulder from behind her with an incredulous look on her face.
  194. >"C'mon, you think the sister literally the least likely to come to us asking for fashion advice showing up at our door isn't going to raise at least one eyebrow in this room?"
  195. >She was right
  196. >For all of Lori's occasional bossiness, she knew her siblings better than anyone.
  197. >Lori unwrapped the towel from her sister's head and let her hair fall into a damp heap on her shoulders
  198. >Gently, she began combing through it to sort out any errant knots that might be hiding within
  199. >"So, would you like to talk about why you care about something other than sports all of the sudden?"
  200. >Lynn sighed
  201. >This was SO embarrassing for her to even think about, much less talk about!
  202.
  203. >"Is it a boy?" Lori asked pryingly, continuing to stroke the knots out of her little sister's hair.
  204. >Lynn felt the blood rush to her cheeks as she pulled forward, only to have Lori pull her back by the shoulder
  205. >"Ha!" Lori shouted in triumph.
  206. >"I knew it was a boy! Little Lynnie has a crush!"
  207. >Lynn clenched her fist as she turned to glare over her shoulder.
  208. >Not only was Lori sort of wrong, but she also used a nickname Lynn thought she'd banished from the house.
  209. >"It's not a boy! And Don't call me Lynnie! You know how that confuses Leni!"
  210. >"Really? Well if it's not a boy, then what is it?"
  211. >Lori barely had time to finish her sentence before she gasped.
  212. >Her entire tone shifted as Lynn felt the comb stop moving through her hair.
  213. >She felt Lori's breath in her ear as she whispered
  214. >"Is it a girl?"
  215. >Lynn shoot a look of disgust back at Lori
  216. >"Ew, no!"
  217. >Lori pulled back from her ear, but didn't resume combing.
  218. >Lynn waited for a few seconds before she heard a few sniffles.
  219. >Her eyes leveled as she stared, annoyed at the wall.
  220. >She knew what was coming next.
  221. >"Fine, if you don't think I'm good enough to... *sniff* tell your secrets to, then I guess I'm literally a failure as a big sister!"
  222. >Lori began full on sobbing behind Lynn as the younger sister pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration.
  223. >"Alright, alright, I'll tell you, just quit with the waterworks!" Lynn moaned.
  224. >Lynn may as well have flipped a switch in her eldest sister, as the sobs and studdering breaths disappeared instantly.
  225. >"Perfect!" Lori replied, resuming her diligent combing.
  226. >'She should work for the CIA...' Lynn thought as she took a deep breath.
  227. >"It's not any boy in particular, but... well..."
  228. >Lynn paused, choosing her next words carefully.
  229. >"TheresadancecomingupandallmyfriendshavedatesandIdont!"
  230. >perhaps she figured if she said it fast, it would be less humiliating to admit.
  231.
  232. >"Uh, can you not talk like you've literally drank a gallon of coffee?"
  233. >Lynn took another deep breath and calmed her racing heart.
  234. >Who know admitting a revolutionary emotional event could be so stressful?
  235. >"There's, there's this dance, and my friends all have dates, and I... well, I don't."
  236. >She felt the comb stop in her hair again.
  237. >"Since when do you care about dances? Didn't you and all your friends used to just go play soccer in the park or something when the school held those?" Lori asked.
  238. >"Yeah, but all my friends are going!" Lynn sighed, exasperated.
  239. >"It's like, one day we're all on the same page, and the next, they start talking about boys and boybands and which dudes they think are hot and, just, ugh!"
  240. >Lynn tilted her head forward and rested her forehead on her hands.
  241. >"I just want to go back to the way things were... I don't want to have to worry about what boys think, or what clothes match with what, or—"
  242. >Lori startled her with a hug from behind, her much longer arms wrapping securely around her little sister.
  243. >Ordinarily, this would have caused Lynn to at least attempt to wriggle out of it.
  244. >After all, there was no pin Lynn Loud couldn't overcome
  245. >Except an emotional one, it seemed.
  246. >Lynn did nothing
  247. >She simply sat there and let it happen.
  248. >"Lynn, it's okay. This is what happens when you grow up."
  249. >"But... this sucks!" Lynn replied, feeling her tears threatening to return as she contemplated her future identity.
  250. >"Look at all the stuff you and Leni do every single day, and for what? So Bobby will like you?"
  251. >Lori held her hug, knowing full well this was one of the few times she'd ever get away with it.
  252. >"Listen to me," Lori whispered in her ear. "You are pretty, Lynn. And when a boy you like finally comes up to you and has trouble talking to you, or is super awkward around you for no real reason, then you'll know. Then you'll realize how pretty you are, I promise."
  253.
  254. >Lori set the brush down and picked up the blow dryer.
  255. >She fiddled with the advanced settings before finally bringing the device to life.
  256. >The heat of the air and the pause in conversation was soothing as Lynn took the time to gather herself as Lori fanned the blow dryer back and forth across her hair.
  257. >While the dryer was running, Leni returned with a box full of nail polishes, smiling broadly at her success.
  258. >Lori gave her a thumbs up as Leni began to unpack shades of nail polish in every conceivable color.
  259. >Before long, her hair was dry, bouncy and manageable.
  260. >Leni was still sorting through the polish and clear coats when Lori engaged the curling attachment.
  261. >"Okay, so, you've got naturally gorgeous straight hair, but what would you think about just a single slight curl on the right side?" Lori asked, holding a mirror up in front of Lynn as she looked over her now tamed hair.
  262. >"Well... if I don't like it, it's not permanent, right?"
  263. >"No, you can just wash it again and it'll go back to the way it was." Lori giggled at her little sister's ignorance.
  264. >Lynn had already come this far, what was one curl in her hair?
  265. >"Okay, let's try it."
  266. >The heat of the iron that close to her face made her wince, but her eldest sister wielded it with experience.
  267. >"Oh my gosh, Lynn, you're gonna look so totally cute with that curl in your hair!" Leni squealed, coming towards her with manicure and pedicure tools at the ready
  268. >At first, Lynn withdrew her feet from her older sister
  269. >They certainly weren't the pampered appendages of her older sisters, and it left her a bit embarrassed
  270. >All those hours spent in various athletic shoes had left them pale, and perhaps a bit calloused.
  271. >"C'mon, I've like, seen worse than yours, I promise"
  272. >Realizing Leni would be the last sister to lie to her, she relented
  273. >Leni set to work filing and trimming her toenails while Lori finished up with her curl
  274.
  275. >"Okay, what do you think?" Lori asked, producing the mirror once again
  276. >Even though she was no judge of feminine beauty, she had to admit that curl really worked
  277. >Lynn blushed a heavy red as she realized her older sisters actually knew what they were doing
  278. >Leni had finished up her toes just in time to produce Lynn's color choices
  279. >"Okay, so fire engine red would totes bring out your eyes, but cerulean would like, SO work with your outfit"
  280. >This time Lori couldn't stop Lynn from voicing her displeasure
  281. >"No, none of that gunk is going on my finger OR my toes"
  282. >Leni certainly looked defeated, but it was only temporary
  283. >Her indomitable spirit bounced right back with a new idea
  284. >She may not have been studied in most other subjects, but she knew fashion better than anyone in town
  285. >"What about french tips?"
  286. >Lynn looked to Lori
  287. >"What are french tips?" she whispered.
  288. >"Just white tips on your nails" Lori replied
  289. >Lynn looked back to Leni, still smiling and waiting for her answer
  290. >How could she say no to a face like that?
  291. >"Okay, I guess..."
  292. >"Yay!"
  293. >Leni got to work on her toes while Lori took her fingers and did the same
  294. >This kind of pampering was certainly new to her, but she had to admit she didn't hate it
  295. >After all, she had faith in her sisters, and they told her she was pretty
  296. >She had no reason not to believe them
  297. >Soon after, her toes and fingers looked as though they belonged in a catalogue of some kind
  298. >Once Lynn was fully transformed, they gave her the clothes she had picked out earlier and left the room
  299. >Lynn hurriedly changed into her new duds and looked at herself in the mirror
  300. >The shirt perfectly accentuated what little she did have up front, and the jeans worked what she already knew she had in the back.
  301.
  302. >Lynn turned to the door where she knew her sisters would be waiting.
  303. >She put her now freshly manicured hand on the knob and took a deep breath.
  304. >'One, Two, Three!' she thought, ripping the door open.
  305. >Leni and Lori both gasped, taking in the sight of their newly transformed sister.
  306. >"Wow, and here I thought you two were gonna—"
  307. >Her older sisters squealed loudly, much to Lynn annoyance as she cringed, plugging her ears until they quieted down.
  308. >"Ohmigosh, Lynn, you are like, SO totally adorbs!" Leni said happily.
  309. >"Just wait till you get to school tomorrow, you'll be beating boys off with both hands!" Lori added.
  310. >Lynn ignored her eldest sister's poor choice of words and focused on their praise.
  311. >"You guys really think I look good?" she asked modestly.
  312. >"Duh!" they said at the same time.
  313. >"Hold still, I have to show Bobby!" Lori said, wrapping an arm around Lynn for a selfie.
  314. >"Will you guys keep it down? Some of us are trying to..." Lincoln had poked his head out of his room only to lose his train of thought halfway through as he focused on the unfamiliar girl standing at the end of the hallway.
  315. >"...Lynn?" he asked, squinting.
  316. >"That's right! The new and improved!" Leni said, this time it was her turn for the selfie.
  317. >Lincoln could hardly believe his eyes.
  318. >This was not like Lynn at all!
  319. >"Okay then..." he said, sliding back into his room to continue reading his comics.
  320. >Lynn paid him no mind as she finally managed to pry herself away from her elder sisters and manage to get back into her room.
  321. >Once there, her other sister hadn't even noticed her arrival.
  322. >Lucy glanced up from her book and did a double take
  323. >"Hey, I don't know who you think you are, but you can't just barge in here and..." Lucy lifted the bangs out of her eyes to get a better look
  324. >"Lynn?"
  325. >"Yeah," Lynn answered softly, crossing the room to her bed
  326. >"Did they force this on you?" Lucy asked
  327.
  328. >Lynn looked at her younger sister.
  329. >Surprise was an expression Lucy rarely wore.
  330. >"Ha, Leni and Lori? Not a chance."
  331. >"So...you asked them to."
  332. >Although she was also a girl of few words, it was even rarer still that she would ever be at a loss for them.
  333. >"But... why?" Lucy asked, genuinely curious.
  334. >How was she supposed to explain this sudden and almost complete loss of her identity to a young girl whose identity meant everything to her?
  335. >"Because..." Lynn began, pausing to make sure she had gathered the right words.
  336. >"Because I'm tired of being one of the boys! You know many people saw the sweaty girl in a t-shirt and shorts and thought 'WOW, she sure is pretty! I'd definitely ask her to the—"
  337. >Lynn stopped herself short of revealing the event that had set everything into motion
  338. >"Ask her to the what?" Lucy lead, her interest now piqued
  339. >Lynn sighed heavily, as she'd heard her little sister done on many occasions
  340. >"The dance"
  341. >Lucy pushed her bangs out of her eyes in shock
  342. >"A dance?" she parroted
  343. >"But I thought you said dances were lame wastes of time where no one actually dances and boys stand on one side of the room and girls stand on the other?"
  344. >Lynn was growing a bit frustrated
  345. >Not a Lucy, but at herself
  346. >These were all things she'd said before
  347. >"They were! I mean, they still are, it's just..."
  348. >Lynn sat down on her bed
  349. >"What if all your friends suddenly became interested in something that you, didn't find that interesting? Do you lose them, or do you try to be like them just to keep them? I mean, I know boys will still be there when I'm older, I just don't get why everyone wants to pretend like they aren't kids anymore"
  350. >Lynn looked toward Lucy, a sly smile crossing her lips
  351. >"It'll happen to you too, you know" Lynn said, rising from her bed and approaching her younger sister
  352. >"Never! My heart belongs to Edward!"
  353. >Lynn knew one thing about Lucy no one else did
  354. >She was extremely ticklish
  355.
  356. >Before Lucy could run, or even put up a decent resistance, Lynn was on top of her, pinning her down with her superior weight.
  357. >The last thing Lucy saw was her sister's evil smile as she set her fingers to work against Lucy's ribs.
  358. >"No!" Lucy shouted between gasps.
  359. >No matter how hard she thrashed, Lynn sitting on her hips was simply too heavy for her to buck.
  360. >"This injustice—hahaha—will not go unpunished!"
  361. >Lynn was not concerned about Lucy's potential revenge.
  362. >It would be a scathing poem, at worst.
  363. >After all the depressing thoughts she'd had today, the last thing Lynn wanted was to absorb second hand gloom from her sister.
  364. >"I'll summon demons—ahahaha—They'll consume your soul!—hahaha!"
  365. >"Really? Well I've got a squirt gun full of holy water waiting for them!" Lynn replied, continuing her onslaught as her sister began to turn a shade of blue.
  366. >"Lynn!" Lucy gasped between giggles.
  367. >"Yeeeees?" Lynn replied.
  368. >"I give, I give!" Lucy managed.
  369. >Content with her assault, Lynn stopped and sat back, her hands on her hips, still seated on her sister as she caught her breath.
  370. >"So, how do I look?" Lynn whispered, her dark smile still across her lips.
  371. >Lucy shook her head.
  372. >"Okay then, I guess I could go back to tickling you—"
  373. >"Okay, okay!" lucy relented.
  374. >"Even though I don't condone conformity to unattainable standards of beauty..."
  375. >Lynn raised an eyebrow.
  376. >"You do look pretty," she mumbled.
  377. >"Aww, thanks Lucy!" Lynn said, leaning in and kissing her cheek before hopping off her.
  378. >"Blegh!" Lucy said, wiping the kiss from her cheek.
  379. >"Who even are you anymore?" Lucy asked, shimmying beneath her covers and preparing for bed.
  380. >Lynn kicked off her new clothes and set them aside for tomorrow.
  381. >She changed into her sleeping tshirt and crawled into bed.
  382. >Lynn thought about what Lucy said.
  383. >Who was she?
  384. >Lynn sighed.
  385. >She was beginning to doubt even she knew anymore.
  386.
  387. >Lynn fell into a fitful sleep as her nerves threatened to keep her awake.
  388. >Tomorrow was positively bursting with possibilities.
  389. >That was the day she trotted out the new Lynn Loud.
  390. >'Different Lynn on the outside, same dominant athlete on the inside' she thought.
  391. >Lynn would fall asleep for an hour at most, then find herself awake again.
  392. >With every interruption, she would look at the clock, the time having only advanced an hour or so.
  393. >Eventually, her and Lucy's alarm went off.
  394. >Lucy was slow to rise, and Lynn would have been too.
  395. >But not today.
  396. >Lynn was first in the bathroom and first out, before any of her other siblings had even left their room.
  397. >She wanted to make sure she had enough time to prep her new look according to Leni's instructions.
  398. >Lynn put on her clothes, and brushed her hair.
  399. >By now, Lucy had already woken up.
  400. >She glanced over at her sister with disinterest as she removed her nightshirt and dug around in her dresser for her usual black shirt.
  401. >"How do I look?" Lynn asked.
  402. >Lucy pulled her normal shirt over her head before dropping her pajama pants.
  403. >"Like everyone else." She said plainly.
  404. >Lynn rolled her eyes.
  405. >But, in the back of her mind, that was exactly what she wanted.
  406. >She glanced at the clock.
  407. >It was time to head downstairs for breakfast, and then out to the van to school.
  408. >Lynn took a deep breath, and opened the door to her room.
  409. >Not all of her siblings had seen her transformation the night before.
  410. >She turned the knob and opened the door.
  411. >The normal hustle of the hallway was brought to a screeching halt.
  412. >Every sibling froze as Lynn walked past them and headed down the stairs.
  413. >All eyes were on her, although it wasn't a feeling she was unfamiliar with.
  414. >But that was for her athletic prowess, not her new look
  415. >She made it down to the kitchen where the coffee pot was already full
  416. >She poured herself a cup while the rest of her sisters looked on, still in shock.
  417.
  418. >"Lynn?" Lana asked, making sure a stranger hadn't broken into their house and was drinking their families coffee.
  419. >"Yeah?" Lynn replied, turning to face a gaggle of partially confused sisters and one brother.
  420. >"What... why are you...is it opposite day already?" Lana asked.
  421. >"Chill out Lana." Lynn replied sternly.
  422. >Sure, she may have had a new look, but she was still the tough as nails girl her sisters had come to know and occasionally fear.
  423. >To reveal her real reason for such a drastic change to her usual style would be unheard of.
  424. >Except to those she trusted.
  425. >They ate their breakfast, although plenty of distracted glances were sent Lynn's way by the siblings that weren't in on her scheme.
  426. >Each Loud piled into Vanzilla and Lori drove them to their respective schools.
  427. >Lana usually loved sitting next to Lynn, mainly because she never smelled like the girly stench that her older sisters did.
  428. >But she had miscalculated this morning.
  429. >Lynn smelled just like her older sisters, that girly, flowery scent invading her nostrils as she covered her nose with her hand.
  430. >"Lynn, you smell!" Lana exclaimed.
  431. >She knew she'd have to explain herself, especially to her younger sister who mirrored her in so many ways.
  432. >"No I don't, you'll get it when you're older." Lynn replied.
  433. >Lana could hardly believe her ears.
  434. >The one sister she thought she knew the best had betrayed her.
  435. >She had crossed over to the dark side.
  436. >She had become as Leni, or even worse... a Lori.
  437. >This revelation broke her heart as Lori pulled up to Lana, Lola, Lucy and Lincoln's school.
  438. >"Oh...okay..." Lana replied as she exited the van with her other siblings.
  439. >Was this the end of the Lynn she used to know?
  440. >She hoped it wasn't as she and Lola walked to their classroom.
