Vincent: I contacted the barkeep, and asked him to call you here.

(Screen transitions to Catherine, as a high school student)

(screen shifts again)

Jonathan: Well, there's various stuff going on with his situation at home and his parents you know.

(Scene swaps to Ishtar talking to the player by the TV, replaying the game's events)

The stairway Vincent was forced to climb could be taken as a metaphor.
