Allow me to give you an analyzis of the discriminated thing known as a luvdisc

Y'know, for a Pokemon based around love, it sure as hell looks like GameFreak HATES poor Luvdisc. It was added in Gen 3, a generation filled with other water-types that would likely be prefered for anyone playing the game. In fact, one of the box legendaries is a Water-Type, so why bother with a tiny heart-shaped fish when you can have an orca that summons storms? Not only that but there's plenty of regular Water-Types that are more appealing, Like Swampert, Ludicolo, Sharpedo, hell even Pelipper out of all things. So, the poor thing stood absolutely zero chances of ever being on the spotlight

Gen 4 changed nothing for it. Gen 5 added another pink heart-shaped fish, at first assumed it was an evolution, so it can now at least battle against non-evolved pokemon (LC), right? Well, wrong. Firstly, Alomomola wasn't an evolution, just another Water-Type that takes pleasure on shitting on Luvdisc. Secondly, even IF it was an evolution, Luvdisc is so undeniably terrible that even LC pokemon outclass it. You know you're a fucking waste when CHINCHOU AND STARYU outclass you. You know you are in deep shit when fucking Tentacool has a highest base stat total than you. Fun fact, tied with Delibird, it's the third non-evolving pokemon with the lowest Base Stat Total, losing only to Smeargle and Wishiwashi. However, unlike the helpless fish, Smeargle can learn (almost) every move in the entire game, and Wishiwashi has a secondary form with sky-high BST. Gen 5 also added Hidden Abilities, but Hydration at best was a gimmick. The only notable thing Luvdisc gained this gen was Hydro Pump.

Come Gen 6 and you think, "Oh, it at least gets the new Fairy-Type to buff it a little bit", right? WRONG. GameFreak looked at this bastard and said "Fuck you, die in a hole". Gen 7 buffed stats for a bunch of older Pokémon, so Luvdisc might gain a highers BST than goddamn Elekid at least, right? No fucks given. No new specific Z-Move nor a ride with Wishiwashi for a form with highesr BST. Hell, even lore-wise, they seem to hate the fish with a passion. "There was an era when it was overfished due to the rumor that having one of its heart-shaped scales would enable you to find a sweetheart."

Funly enough, that's not too far off from the truth, the only purpose GameFreak ever gave this weakling was being stolen from. It carries a rare item called Heart Scale. So you might think, "Oh, so people catch it to get the item, correct?". Well, no. There's an ability called Frisk, which makes the pokemon indentify the foe's item if it has any. Aside from Wigglytuff, EVERY SINGLE POKEMON WITH THIS ABILITY HAS THIEF. You don't even catch the thing, you just see if it has the item, punch its face if it has it and steal from it. I could go on about how terrible it's learnpool is but I think you all understand how much GameFreak hates it.

The Disc in its name might as well have come from Discriminated.
