Then their marriage slowly spirals downhill, and the children they collected in their golden years get swept under the rug in the years of spiteful remarks and barely simmering hate that the parents slowly kill each other and themselves with. Then, when the pot finally boils over, they are left with several years of their lives lost, kids that they regret but are unable to detach from, and a simmering resentment and fear for any new relationships due to a jaded view.
