  1. "I sat, bearing witness to the gaping maw in front of me",
  2. "A crevasse amongst the ice, a vertical cliff - barely two persons across, yet disparate miles of unforgiving breadth",
  3. "Old, meaty ropes dangled down, preserved in the frozen winds. A testament to the tenacity, or perhaps the ill fortune, of those who had come before me",
  4. "Somewhere deep inside me I knew that I would never come back from the howling depths",
  5. "I added my anchor to the overgrowth of anchors lurking steadily atop this icy corner, a perfect right angle defiled only by this meagre human presence",
  6. "Some were fresh. Most were old. Rusted, crumbling, impure",
  7. "I gave my carabiner a brief tug, satisfied it was holding firm. It was time to begin my steady plod, ever downwards",
  8. "Boots digging fruitfully into the ground, I clambered clumsily over the edge, rope holding taut, as I began to descend into the blackness",
  9. "For the first time, I could peer directly into the deep depths below me, a chasm seemingly without limit, without bound, without form",
  10. "The cliff face moved slowly as I descended after it. The breeze began to howl, as if calling to me - an eerie pitch clearly discernable through the mass of wind, a gentle madness blown directly into my thoughts",
  11. "Left. Right. Again. My boots clattering obnoxiously against the sheer face as I continued my steady plod, ever downwards, small deformations forming wherever they struck",
  12. "Tiny chunks of ice fell down, never to be seen again by live eyes, into the heart of the empty mass that lurked below",
  13. "Peering upwards I could still see in the ever dimming light - as the opening I entered through began to gently recede into its horizon",
  14. "Left behind me was everything, discarded carelessly without nary thought into the void",
  15. "With a final tired wink, the cold sun settled behind the distant lip. The features of the rock face dulled - only with a firm squint could I make out the finer details, spidered on the cliff face",
  16. "The hairs on my neck raised, the harsh cold frosting them bitterly. I wanted nothing more than to quicken my descent, feeling that perhaps increasing my speed might ease my increasing sense of malaise",
  17. "Suddenly there was a jolt on my left, as I collided with something solid, firm, heavy",
  18. "I froze. It is my shame to admit that in my startled state I gave a quiet whimper, and waited for the inevitable",
  19. "It did not come for me then. Turning I saw.. him?",
  20. "I knew that there must have been ones like him when I entered here, simply left to hang",
  21. "His face was.. white. Frozen solid. As if drained of all the blood in his entire body. His eyes stuck in their final moments, a grim focus still dancing across his lips as he peered towards the vacant sky",
  22. "I knew there would be more. I knew I must continue my plod ever downwards",
  23. "Left. Right. Again. The clattering of my boots on the ice became ever more obscene on the slick face, butchering the reverie that this land had endured for so long",
  24. "Glancing to my right, I peered into the distance, trying to catch a sight that had been toying with the corners of my eye",
  25. "A second passed until my brain deduced the object of my affections. It was another, more deformed than the first",
  26. "Hanging, splayed upon its back, suspended as if by an intestine woven from its misery, ascending into the sky",
  27. "What it had been previously, I did not know. I did not know what it was now. I did not want to know. I knew that I would, soon enough",
  28. "A small shudder passed through me as I averted my gaze, the crushing sense of unease now fraying my nerves. I must continue my plod, ever downwards",
  29. "A tinny groan echoed throughout the now pitch black cavern - distant, echoing. Was it mine? I could no longer tell, my face numb from cold, the howling wind my only companion",
  30. "My eyes had finally failed me in the darkness. I must see to carry on",
  31. "I paused my ever downward plodding. Reaching around to my hip, I came to the moment I had been dreading",
  32. "The flashlight swung around. A simple flick powered the device on",
  33. "--FIN--"
