- “You are here early.” Silver descended from the branches and landed lightly on the grass, smoothing her green leafy hair.
- “Yeah, I figured I better head out early since I was so late last time.” Barry looked around with his hands in his pockets, “Is Firebrand not here? I thought she lived really close by.”
- “I'm here.” Came a voice from the branches of the tree. Firebrand shimmied down to the floor, tugging at her hood to pull it over her eyes, then straightening her layered clothes.
- “You know, your shadow glamor's not up... are you okay, you look a little...” Knight's voice trailed off as the redness in Firebrand's cheeks flared, “...Am I interrupting something?”
- After a few moments of silence, Firebrand flourished her hand over her face and magical shadow fell over it, and Barry drew his blade and his armour appeared.
- Firebrand crossed her arms and leaned against the tree, while Silver and Barry stood in place, fidgeting slightly. Barry cleared his throat, then decided not to say anything.
- “Hey.” The raspy voice cut through the darkness from the direction of one of the park entrances, “What's with quiet time? Did the dork interrupt your fun?”
- “A little bit yeah.” Barry mumbled as Corpse approached the group.
- “Well, please, don't let me make anything less awkward.” Corpse parked his backside on the dirt near the tree and grinned at the pair of girls.
- “Bite me, dead man.”
- “Isn't that the dryad's job?” Corpse directed his smirk to Silver Birch, whose cheeks flushed with green.
- Looking away, Silver stuttered, “I do not actually have teeth...”
- “Hey guys,” Blitz Spirit chirped as she touched down, “I miss anything?”
- “Not much.” Firebrand, Silver, and Barry said at roughly the same time in variant tones.
- “So, what's the report on the mysterious prophetic words?” Blitz smiled behind her gas mask from face to face.
- “Well, the city's undead underbelly either didn't recognise the phrase, or were too drunk to say anything meaningful.” Corpse shrugged.
- “The paths of nature and the wild offered no answers. I apologize.” Silver bobbed her head sincerely.
- “Nothing in my books.” Firebrand added.
- “Yeah, my people couldn't turn anything up.” Barry folded his arms.
- “Shiny, I swear, 'your people' better not be a couple of chucklefucks you know from school or some shit.” Corpse said without looking up.
- “Of cour-” Barry began to defend himself.
- “I fucking knew it.”
- “Blitz, you get anything on the tech end?” Firebrand asked.
- “Not really.” Jenny's body flounced despondently, her arms crossed, “There are some weird groups on the net who seem really jazzed about the phrase, but they're just conspiracy nuts. There's nothing to what they're saying. They've lumped the phrase with so much other prophetic-sounding stuff I can't even tell what's genuine.”
- “Well, I say that officially relieves us of any duty to deal with this particular issue.” Corpse smiled.
- A metallic vibration sound cut off Firebrand as she was about to respond, and instead she said, “What the hell is that?”
- Barry sheathed his sword and dispelled the armour, pulling the phone from his pocket, “That's my people.”
- “Loser.” Corpse contributed.
- “They've got some stuff. Historical documents or something, but it looks like more of the same prophecy.” He cleared his throat and lifted the phone up in front of his face dramatically, “She shall come and be tested when the Crossroads call and the Wave follows in the traveller's wake. The Crossroads shall call out, and the Wave shall follow in the traveller's wake. On that day let those she is of rejoice if she-”
- “If she what?” Blitz prompted.
- “Hang on, Kat- my people are on sending the next text.” Barry whistled while he waited, “Oh. Apparently the rest of the original document is lost. There's conjecture about what it says after, but nobody knows for sure.”
- “How did you find that stuff when we couldn't?” Blitz asked, confused.
- “We may or may not sometimes have access to the internet from an alternate reality. It's a long story, I'm not really allowed to tell it. Hang on.” He redirected his attention to the phone and tapped at the keypad while the others waited.
- “Well?” Firebrand prompted as he returned the phone to his pocket.
- “Well what?”
- “Well, what are we hanging on for?”
- “Oh, I wasn't, like, asking anything extra I was just texting 'thank you'. Sorry.” Barry rubbed the back of his neck.
- “We're a terrible super-team.” Corpse commented.
- “Really I just kind of thought of us as friends who all happened to be weird.” Barry responded.
- “Maybe we should work on upping our reputation or something. Maybe get a base of operations.” Jenny mused.
- “It would be convenient if we didn't have to always meet in a park at night.” Barry said.
- “Would it have to be far from the park? I don't like to be away for too long.” Silver frowned.
- “Maybe we could work on something extradimensional,” Firebrand pondered, “You wouldn't have to really go anywhere.”
- “I think... my sword can do something with that?”
- “What, it cuts holes in reality?” Corpse asked.
- “Well, like... Look, it's hard, I have muddy, vague ideas of what my powers do and what my duties are. I didn't even know my voice glows.”
- “It really does.”
- “You know it really wouldn't be too hard to make a private grove or something, right?” Firebrand paced and looked around the park.
- “I think we can do it.” Silver confirmed.
- “Oh, yay,” Jenny clapped excitedly, “We're going to be like a real super-team, like the Guardians or the Foe Fighters.”
- “Aim a smidge lower.” Corpse said.
- “The Trailblazers?” Jenny offered.
- “Nyeh... lower.” Corpse pressed.
- “I don't think I know of anyone lower. They're kind of the cusp of being known.”
- “Exactly. Nobody's gonna know us either.”
- “You know people get me confused with Cavalier?” Barry folded his arms indignantly, “Like there can't be more than one knight-themed superhero in the world. Cavalier doesn't even use a sword.”
