  1. I can't speak for other people, but these are my main gripes so far:
  2.
  3. - pacing is wack, original game had fantastic pacing which is now hampered by added side areas which add little (like those dumb caves after del-lago that feel straight out of a alpha build). Lots of added backtracking for special drawers or drawers with keys that tend to just be for a few coins. The 'side quests' are equally laughable and legit feel like something that should be in an MMO. Arbitrary mobs with bonus HP for some coins to promote more backtracking. Meh.
  4. - Game in general seems to have a lack of focus. REmake was a focus on horror, RE4 is a focus on action. This game seems to want to have it both ways. It's general idea is that you're more slow and weighty, yet combat has more options in terms of melee and you even have weapon swapping. Style-wise I'd almost say weapon-swapping should've been in the original, and removed in this one.
  5. - knife durability and the parry feels like dumbing down original concepts. You could 'parry' in the original i.e. knife enemies weapons out of their hands or knife them in the head mid attack, now it's just "press parry". If Ashley got grabbed, you had to carefully place your shots or knife carefully to risk not killing her, now you just press "execute".
  6. - combat feels much less based on positioning and micromovements, which i feel is a shame since more and more of those games are vanishing. I'm confused day by day by how much Sekiro influenced the market and destroyed cool combat ideas.
  7. - not a fan of the increased tracking on attacks or Leon's new style of movement.
  8. - feel that it's weird that they made such a concious decision to add move+shoot, yet still make it so that you basically have to stand perfectly still for a straight shot. Ironically you were more mobile and accurate in the original which is weird.
  9. - the QTE's are now actions you have to do, which means they won't cancel and you have to stop what you're doing like aiming. Feel that's a bad move.
  10. - generally really not a fan of all the hyper-armor going on. Needing 2-4 shots for a kick on PRO just is "good combat...with extra steps". In general I'm not a fan of combat where the outcome is randomized or unpredictable, especially in a shooter like this. I can stomach it in more wild action games like NGII where it's part of the chaos, but RE games were always "you do X, Y happens" levels of strategy to me, which now seems more "grab shotty and pray for staggers" which is less interesting for me. Delimbs are added but amount to little imo in a game that has devolved into a DPS race instead of crowdcontrol.
  11. - knife-durability in general feels dumb. It all feels like they made changes and it just spiralled out of control. The only aspect I enjoy about it is that it makes stealthkills feel more 'resourcebased'. I think if you couldn't buy new durability, it would've been better, as now it just feels like a time and moneywaste instead of a resource you really have to smartly manage.
  12. - In general, I feel it did nothing that a remake should or could do. At best it grabs classic moments and puts them in a new coat of 4k-paint, but it rarely elevates it or does new things that go beyond the original or improve it. The crumbling tower is a great twist, as is the new Garador fight with the chains - fantastic. But Del Lego is still bad and even worse now arguably. El Gigante lost a lot of his luster. The twin-paths are gone. Chaingunner is gone, JJ is gone, U3 etc. But also it didn't improve, the Island was arguably the core area to really revisit, and some of the originals' bigger issues (like, it was way too long) aren't adressed. Weapons also seem lesser, with most exclusives just being " lol damage x1.5" instead of the flavorfull originals. As a result I still don't really see why this was remade.
  13.
  14. These are probably my main gripes. I think the game is fantastic and definitely the best RE since RE4, but also feel it's a lot of steps back since RE4 and fails to capture what it did well while also failing to do what it could've done better. I feel that many of the things it DOES do right, it simply does right because it is a remake of a good game.
