New Discoveries

On August 17th, we discovered that it was possible to get Farore's Wind without the use of explosives in Ocarina of Time 3D. This discovery makes it possible to complete the Any% category without the use of explosives now. For years Ocarina of Time 3D speedrunning has revolved around getting explosives as fast as possible, which was unfortunately limited to getting them from Dodongo's Cavern. Because of this new discovery, we can now completely skip getting: Saria's Song; the Goron Bracelet; Bombs; and all the movement in between these parts. This will save at least 5 minutes, but probably more once proper optimization is put in place. However there are now two new tricks in the Any% run that are particularly difficult and will likely take time to work out.

Normally you need explosives to make your way up Death Mountain Trail, and then you need explosives again to blow up the wall to the Magic Fairy Fountain. So, we need to get around these uses. To get past the first use, we need to perform ISG (which can only be performed with a jumpslash death in 3D) and hover off of either one or two tektites to get out of bounds and around the rocks that normally block our path. The second use of explosives can be bypassed with a seamwalk and jumpslash into the Magic Fairy Fountain from out of bounds (which is thankfully not very difficult).

Normally you need explosives to get into the Farore's Wind Fairy Fountain. However, by getting ISG (again with a jumpslash death), you can walk up a particularly large seam right next to the fountain, get on top of it, sidehop out of bounds, and jumpslash into the side. (Why this seam exists is unknown.) The only tricky part of this discovery is getting the ISG (which is not shown in the video but involves the skulltula near the tree and a heart pot).

Today will most likely be spent pursuing consistency and better setups for these tricks. Runs are not very likely.
