- The sound of wind howling as it brushes against this ancient structure capture my mind, briefly making me forget why I am here. A shiver goes down my spine as I hear the winds again, glancing down to my wrist watch; The temperature is seventy three degrees Fahrenheit, a bit cold for my liking. My eyes wander along the many hallways in this shrine to knowledge; tomes and books and grimoires lining each and every one of them. They continue to wander, glancing over the ceiling, taking note of one particularly annoying, flickering light. Someone should really get to fixing that. I continue to look over the building until my eyes settle on the woman standing behind me, gently tapping her foot. It's only then that I remember what I should be doing here, turning around to see a small line in front of me leading to the front desk of the "" Public Library.
- I decide, rather than stand here and stare at the actually quite droll scenery of this library, I should try and actually talk with someone. The woman behind me seems like the best bet as the man in front of me seems a smidgen more annoyed at his current state than she is. And I feel a kindred spirit in her, her eyes looking like they were also searching for knowledge in this place. Not to mention we also were wearing the same brand of watch. That is the obvious sign of a soul mate.
- Despite my better judgement and the fact I am terrible with speaking I decide to try and start up a conversation with her. Who knows. Maybe the Elder Gods will shine upon me and grant me the gift of conversational adeptness just this once. As I turn to face her I almost trip over a small buckle in the carpet, nearly falling over and making a fool of myself. She seems not to have noticed at least so luck is on my side.
- "Um, hello there. What might your name be?" I say as friendly as I possibly could. However, she seems a bit startled by me talking.
- "Oh, uh, jeez. Wow. Was not expecting to end up talking with anyone while at the library. Right, my name's Emily. How about you? I haven't seen you here before and I come here a lot. Mostly for kids." she says sounding a bit stressed. Probably because of the children she mentioned. Anyone who mentions children is probably stressed.
- "Ah, yes, my name is Andolph Kinley." As I say that she quirks an eyebrow.
- "Andolph? What sort of name is that?" she inquires.
- Of course her just asking about my name makes a small smile creep onto my face. This is the first person who's actually said anything about my first name sounding strange. Most people just accept it. Maybe she's also attuned to the otherworldly.
- "Honestly I have no clue what is wrong with my name but you are the first stranger to mention anything about it. I believe it was supposed to be Randolph going by my father's story about how he wrote down my name and a letter just disappeared." I state, Emily looking like she was remembering something.
- "Huh. How about that! I mean my dad said the same thing happened when he named me. Emily's, uh, actually my middle name. My first name is Ara which I guess was going to be Lara? But then, you know, what you said happened." she bashfully let out, my ears loving everything she was saying.
- This meant my father and I aren't crazy! At least about this. There are no doubt many other things one could see that could construe us as being insane such as seeking out eldritch knowledge and archaic books. Which brings me back to why I am here; to find a desultory tome that somehow has managed to find itself in this very library.
