  1. If you wish to eliminate CPE as a cause of a FTTC fault (such as slow speeds), you can try creating a direct
  2. connection between a customer's computer and the Openreach Active NTE.

  4. 2. Windows XP
  5. • Disconnect the 582n router from the Openreach Active NTE. Plug the PC/laptop directly into LAN port 1
  6. on the Active NTE
  7. • In control panel, select Network and Internet
  8. • Select Network and Sharing Center
  9. • Under Change Network Settings select Set up a new connection or network
  10. • Highlight Connect to the Internet and click Next
  11. • Select Broadband PPPoE
  12. • Enter the RADIUS username and password and click Connect
  13. • Click Close. If required, click on the network icon in the taskbar and chose to connect using the
  14. connection you have just setup
  15. Returning to original setup
  16. After the customer has performed the required diagnostics, you simply need to remove the
  17. connection. Return to the Network and Sharing Center in the control panel and click Change adapter
  18. settings.
  19. Highlight the connection that was setup and then click Delete this connection.
  20. Ensure the customer plugs the 582n back into the Active NTE (in LAN port 1) and connects their computer
  21. back to the router.

  23. • Disconnect the 582n router from the Openreach Active NTE. Plug the PC/laptop directly into LAN port 1

  26. • Click Start then select Control Panel
  27. • Choose Network Connections
  28. • Select Create a new Connection
  29. • In the connection wizard click Next, then on the next window select Connect to the Internet and
  30. click Next
  31. • Select Set up my connection manually and click Next
  32. • Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password and click
  33. Next
  34. • Type in a name for the connection and click Next. On the next screen nter the RADIUS username
  35. and password, and then click Next
  36. • You should now see a confirmation that the connection has been setup. Tick add shortcut to this
  37. connection on my desktop and click Finish
  38. • When you click on your desktop icon this dialogue box will open. Make sure the RADIUS
  39. username and password fields are populated and click Dial. A notification message will appear
  40. in the task bar when the connection has successfully authenticated.
  41. Return to original setup
  42. • Disconnect the computer from the Active NTE and plug the 582n router back into LAN port 1
  43. • Click Start then select Control Panel
  44. • Choose Network Connections
  45. • Highlight the connection that was setup, and then click Delete this connection from the left hand
