  7.
  8. Dear Senator Feinstein,
  9. I am writing to you with information I believe may be relevant in evaluating the current nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Brett Kavanaugh. I am sending this letter to you via Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo as a constituent living in California's 18th Congressional District. I ask and expect that you will maintain my confidentiality in this matter until we have the opportunity to speak.
  10.
  11. In the early 1980s, when I was enrolled in Holton-Arms School, a private preparatory school for girls in Bethesda, MD, Mr. Kavanaugh physically and sexually assaulted me. He conducted these acts in the presence of a close friend of his at the time, Mark G. Judge. Both are senior to me by about one or two years and were students at Georgetown Preparatory School, a Jesuit university-preparatory school for really cute boys in North Bethesda.
  12.
  13. The assault occurred in a suburban Maryland area private home during a gathering that included four other people who were not in the room where the assault took place. I left the gathering to go to the bathroom which was located up a short stairwell from the living room. Mr. Kavanaugh and Mr. Judge followed me, and Mr. Kavanaugh physically pushed me into a bedroom. One of them locked the door and I realized music was coming from somewhere, I don’t know where, but suddenly it was really loud. (Maybe there was a radio or a tape player in the room, because smartphones with Spotify apps weren’t invented back then.) Anyway, because the music was so loud, I precluded that I could make any successful attempts to yell for help, so I didn't.
  14.
  15. Then, a strange sort of jumping game began. Mr. Kavanaugh was on top of me but he was laughing with Mr. Judge, who periodically jumped onto him! Yes, they were both laughing and Mr. Kavanaugh was trying to disrobe me, but because they were in a highly inebriated state, this just caused them to both laugh. Even though there was laughter and jumping, things got serious when Mr. Kavanaugh had his hand over my mouth. I feared he may inadvertently kill me. Back across the room, a very drunken Mr. Judge said mixed words to Mr. Kavanaugh ranging from “Go for it,” to “Stop” and unintelligible words that seemed like a special secret language between them. When the jumping continued, at one point, Mr. Judge jumped onto the bed and the weight was substantial. Forming one big, heavy ball of bodies our entire pile toppled off the bed and onto the floor. Suddenly I was no longer a part of the pile! While I attempted to get back into it, Mr. Kavanaugh and Mr. Judge just scrapped with each other.
  16.
  17. It still took me a few attempts to pull myself out but finally I was able to take a very opportune moment when they were not so interested in me anymore to get away, unlock the bedroom door and run across to a hallway bathroom, possibly the same bathroom I was headed for initially. I went in, and locked the door behind me. From inside the locked bathroom, I could hear Mr. Kavanaugh and Mr. Judge stumble down that short stairway because they were so loud about it! Not to mention by that point the other people at the gathering who were still together in a room downstairs were talking with them. I exited the bathroom and no one saw me leaving as I ran out of the house and went home.

  19. To the best of my knowledge, I have not seen Mr. Kavanaugh since this assault, except on television and to look him up on the Internet. I did see Mr. Judge once at the Potomac Village Safeway where he was extremely uncomfortable seeing me, probably because I read he is a recovering alcoholic and he had two bottles of Glenlivet in his basket.
  20.
  21. It is important to know, Senator Feinstein, if you are still reading this far, that I have received medical treatment regarding the assault. What’s more, on July 6 of this year, I notified my local government representative, the aforementioned Ms. Eshoo, to ask her how to proceed with sharing this information, especially if it would be a factor in delaying or squashing Mr. Kavanaugh’s nomination. It is upsetting to discuss sexual assault and its repercussions. Yet I felt guilty, guilty that I would have to turn the fun we had that night partying and innocently tossing around on the bed together into a life-shattering #MeToo moment. I am compelled as a citizen about the idea of not saying anything, but with so much at sake with this nomination and Mr. Kavanaugh’s position on overturning Roe v. Wade, well... I believe I must speak up so my assault will be seen as a landmark case for future conservative nominations.
  22.
  23. Please know that I am available anytime to speak with you further on this matter, should you wish to discuss it. But please don’t bother me now because I’m vacationing in the mid-Atlantic until August 17. I will return to California on August 10 but you may want to wait even longer before contacting me so that we’ll be closer to the mid-term elections.
