- Silverdrake is a minehall in the hills of Elwood. The silver is tapped out, but Silverdrake has broken into and begun farming the distinctive life of a cave. Every month on a market day, a wagon arrives from Silverdrake to sell underground delicacies and mushroom materials, and buy other supplies for the minehall. But last month the wagon never came, and this month they've just missed their usual market day, still no wagon from Silverdrake. Make the week-long journey to Silverdrake, find out what's going on, and return to send help.
- Once you get to Silverdrake, there's a sign out front saying "Quarantined With The Blue Death" in six languages(Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Gnome, Goblin, Undercommon), and decorated with a dwarf's skull. Knowledge: History DC: 15 tells you the Blue Death weakened the Salaslith Kingdom, allowing Elwood to expand here. Knowledge: History DC: 20 tells you it's a disease that makes people kill each other.
- If you enter, then you find a people under self-imposed quarantine. 5 weeks ago, they sent the children and some parents to Fort Hawkwind in the big wagon. If the infection showed up among them then they were to turn back, doomed. They haven't returned, so this is a point of hope for Silverdrake. However, Knowledge: Local DC: 15 tells you Hawkwind hasn't reported a wagon full of refugees.
- The Blue Death is not a disease. It's a spirit. Those who leave, unless they have the spirit in them, escape. The spirit inhabits someone, riding along for [their INT] days, then makes them kill until they're killed. Once they finish dying(2D6 days after their nominal death), the spirit finds a new host nearby to inhabit. Over the course of that dying time, the corpse turns quite blue.
- Down in the cave somewhere is a sword, a Medium creature's fullblade, festooned with an interlocking system of wards keeping a powerful spirit trapped inside. That spirit has managed to hack off a bit of itself, and get that bit through the wards; that bit is the current spirit of the Blue Death. Normally, the powerful spirit would slay lesser creatures, and create such spirits as spawn from them. This is a desperate measure.
