- Akemi:
- Let me start by assuming that neither player directly interacts with their opponent. This is blatantly wrong, of course, but it’s a start.
- Vanita begins the match by going straight ahead in her sandrail, demolishing the cactus in front of her. Now, from some research and personal judgment-based decision-making, I will be giving the sandrails a top speed of 30 meters per second on straightaways and 9 m/s on curves (assuming no Stand interference). Going straight until she reaches the oasis, Vanita reaches this destination in 1.667 seconds. Upon reaching the oasis, Vanita begins to wakeboard on her B Speed Stand. With B Precision to match, I think that whether turning or moving straight, [Kill the Lights] can travel at B Speed’s top speed. Having calculated this back in Round 1 of T3 for a vote, I use 16.667 m/s, based on the feats of [Highway Star]. It takes her another 2.4 seconds to reach the briefcase, getting there in a total of 3.067 seconds. Impressive. What about Marcella?
- Marcella also guns it straight ahead, only barely veering around the cactus to the extent that I’ll treat her mathematically as though she’s going straight. Wind resistance is also negligible in sandrails, so I’m considering her wedges a mathematical nonfactor. Also gunning it straight for the oasis, she should also reach that benchmark in 1.67 seconds. This is where her path diverges, most notably due to the fact that she remains on her sandrail and has [St. James Infirmary] create platforms on which to drive. With C Speed and D Precision (as well as an admission in the strat itself that this may slow her down a bit), I will assume that for safety purposes Marcella will be consistently moving at C Speed, whether turning or going straight. In the same T3 match as before, I calculated C Speed to move at 12.4277 meters per second. Therefore she covers the remaining distance in 3.219 seconds, for a total of 4.886 seconds, nearly two seconds behind Vanita.
- But wait, there’s more! I need to take into account interference and how each player deals with this interference. I’ll start by noting that Marcella creates a wall between Vanita and the objective near the start. Vanita’s swerve to avoid it would cost 1.111 second per wall by my calculations, and given SJI’s C Range of 30 meters, it’s fair to say that SJI can probably create two of these in our context, adding 2.222 seconds to Vanita’s time for a total of 5.289 seconds, putting her just behind Marcella. Except, KtL is explicitly using its efforts to keep SJI by Marcella and generally pushing Marcella away, meaning that Vanita gets blocked by only one of these walls, bringing her back to 4.178 seconds, ahead of Marcella once again, but the two reach the briefcase within a second of the other, and we’re only halfway through the match!
- With Vanita grabbing the briefcase in a driveby (ski-by?) at the minimum safe speed of 9 m/s, that’s another 1.111 seconds in the process, back up to 5.289 seconds to acquire the briefcase. However, Marcella does not slow down from her mime-platform speed of 12.4277 meters per second in her own drive-by nab, meaning that it takes her only .805 more seconds, earning her the briefcase after a total of 5.691 seconds. Just barely after Vanita!
- So now the question is, can Marcella steal the briefcase? As it happens, I believe she has a real chance. With her and Vanita so close to each other in the moment of acquisition, I believe her plans to nab Vanita in a ring of SJI’s own making are fully plausible, giving her a chance to get Vanita drunk and in a box.
- Now, that’s not to say Vanita can’t get it back. By keeping Vanita close in this initial scuffle, KtL is in prime range for a tug-of-war, and with its superior speed and power, Vanita has a real chance of getting it back. The problem is, Vanita will be somewhat slower than Marcella’s dune buggy once they’re back on the open sand, and if tipsy, she’s going to lose that maneuverability advantage granted by wakeboarding, allowing Marcella to properly finish the job.
- That said, this was hecking close and really solid teamwork on both sides. (If it weren’t, I wouldn’t have had to fill a Google Doc with math for this delib!) So, I’m giving Marcella a 10/10 and Vanita a 9/10.
- I bet you wish I’d said that at the start instead of making you read all this, huh?
- Reiko:
- This is a fast match, so I’m gonna get into this quick, without any MATH like SOME NERDS, yukyukyuk.
- Marcella and Vanita both immediately book it for the briefcase, Marcella making an ethereal nosecone to minimize air resistance and Vanita gunning it. With Vanita’s disc-truction of the cactus compared to Macella’s slight (of hand) detour, I imagine they’re generally neck and neck here. Both users focus on driving while their Stands tussle. I think it’s something of a wash: KTL’s higher SPD interferes with any significant attempts to wall off Vanita, but SJI’s greater resources and stronger defensive tactics prevent any significant interference.
- With that having been said, the oasis represents the first major challenge for both competitors, with the trees’ bottleneck, the water, and the briefcase all coming up in quick succession. Marcella mimes out small grooves for the sandrail to drive in while doing a driveby for the briefcase. Vanita makes the bold move of wakeboarding (sandboarding?) during a driving match. It’s a flashy maneuver with the major benefit of handling, but it’s not a knockout: B SPD ring-riding is comparable to a sandrail, especially a more aerodynamic one.
- It’s here where I ultimately will award both sides an 8. Vanita’s strat assumes rather strongly that she will grab the case and make a clean getaway, the main defensive contingency being a tug-of-war over the briefcase. Meanwhile Marcella is chasing her down in an A DUR armored buggy with a wealth of walls to use. A more circumspect strat would have edged you out in my book. Marcella has a solid strat in itself, but was somewhat outplayed by Vanita ditching her sandrail entirely. A very strong showing from both sides!
- Yoshie:
- This was a fun match with a great showout from both teams!
- I think that this really ends up being neck in neck, with both sides building up great speed and momentum and generally taking comparable steps to mitigate obstructions and distractions that lead to a very competitive race.
- I think, however, that Marcella does a bit better job obstructing and keeping down Vanita's speed, setting up barriers and even force feeding her alcohol which, 1. Jeez and 2. That has some bad implications for your jojolity but more on that in that delib, but I think it works well for your quality here.
- I like Vanita's trick with riding on her rings but I think it might honestly sacrifice some stability, which here is a key to make sure you remain competitive; I think that gives Marcella a bit of an edge up as well.
- That said, it's very slight. I think that both sides do a great job of speeding themselves up and slowing eachother down, and ultimately I'm going to end with a very close 9/10 for Marcella and 8/10 for Vanita. Really great work to both teams here.
