He reached out of his pocket and withdrew a knife.  He reversed it and extended it to me, handle first.

“Keep it away from heat.  If the growths start knuckling together, then it’s probably clogged at the air intake.  You can unscrew the cap at the butt of the knife and access the air intake there.
