- 1. What are 4 adjectives you would most use to describe yourself? (2 Marks)
- Creative, Humorous, Perseverant, Ambitious
- 2. What makes you special, interesting and/or unique? (3 Marks)
- I’m a naturally born humorous person. I find that reading manga (comics) helps express my humour explicitly.
- I’m also a talented pianist – I have a born perfect pitch ability and I’m also a good sight-reader. However talent alone cannot make a good pianist – only practice makes perfect, so I work hard on my piano practice every day.
- 3. If you could have any superpower what would it be and why? (3 Marks)
- Reading people’s mind (Satori style) – there are too many hypocrites in the world, and if I can read people’s minds I don’t have to be decepted all the time. Also, I don’t have to get into trouble because of someone else’s wrongdoing.
- 4. Who is one of your favourite singers, bands or groups and why? (4 Marks)
- Favourite band: The Dream Continues
- It’s not a famous band, but it’s an amateur band which performs irregularly to raise funds for charity organisations and for BC Children’s Hospital. My uncle is one of the guitar players and my cousin is the singer. I once played as the violinist.
- I like this band most because I participated in the band. Also we performed for charity purposes and I hope we can help people in need – I feel really good about that.
- 5. If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, famous or not, who would it be and why? (4 Marks)
- Beethoven. He is my favourite composer. I’m currently playing his sonata nicknamed “Pathétique”. If I have the chance to meet him I can ask him for some advice. I would also like to compliment his accomplishment. History books say he was a lonely man without many friends. Maybe I could offer my friendship. (That would be somewhat difficult though because he might have been really hard to get along with.)
- 6. What is one of your happiest moments that you can remember? (4 Marks)
- I placed 4th in the 2008 Canspell Regional Spelling Bee contest. I was quite surprised because I actually made it through so many rounds, even though I didn’t really get well-prepared for the event, unlike a lot of the other contestants who spent many hours every night studying the dictionary. I think I got caught on the word “Tempe” because I heard the pronouncer say something I couldn’t really catch. I heard my classmates cheering for me in the crowd. Maybe I would have won the contest if I actually studied for real. Anyways, it was a very valuable experience and I think I even learned a handful of words while I skimmed through the list of suggested words to study.
- 7. What is special, interesting and/or unique about your family and/or friends? (4 Marks)
- There are 4 people in my family, including me. My dad likes to work on his computer. My mom is a traditional housewife who takes care of the family. My younger brother likes to play with toys (and sometimes he goes on the computer, but he always gets angry with it.) There’s also me. I like to spend my free time on the computer – I usually spend time writing a game program that I’m planning to release in about 2 years or so.
- Even though we all have our own interests, we still get to spend some quality time with each other and we care for each other a lot. I have a happy family.
- I don’t have many friends, because a lot of people at school just have me there to tease me. Well, there is one person I know who treats me nicely, so he’s automatically my best (fine, only) friend.
- 8. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why? (4 marks)
- I’d like to go to Japan – there is one person who lives in Japan. He develops these game programs and it’s a pretty famous series of games, if you ask me. I was wondering if I could go there some day and get some experience and learn their technology. It’s not empty talk – I’m taking Japanese lessons so I can actually study or work there.
- 9. Everyone dreams of their future so what is your dream for yourself? (4 Marks)
- As I said, I want to write popular game program(s) to entertain people. Life today is quite stressful, so at the end of the day, people need some downtime. Playing games is a very good way to relieve stress and can help you be more spontaneous.
- 10. What is an issue in our world today that you believe is important and why? (4 Marks)
- Peace – there is lots of chaos today somewhere in the world. There are lots of wars and violent events that disrupt so many people’s daily lives. For example, the recent revolts in Egypt and Libya, and also the terrorist activities of al Qaeda have taken away quite a lot of innocent lives. If everyone can live in peace, we can focus our resources and energy on scientific research instead of wars and destructive activities. This way, more people can benefit and not have to worry so much about their safety.
