  1.
  2. Each game must provide a persistent 64-bit ID for each asset that can be traded to another user. At a minimum this asset ID must be unique within the context that contains the asset ID.
  3. Steam reserves the top two bits of each context ID for its own use. Context IDs returned by an asset server must be zero in the top two bits.
  4. All contexts defined by the asset server must also have a non-zero context ID. APIs that return context IDs must not specify a value of zero.
  5. Contexts provide a way to break up items into different categories, what kind of categories depend on the implementation.
  6.
  7. App ID (appid) - The integer id for a game
  8. Context ID (contextid) - A way to organize / categorize items/assets/currency. This is just an integer but steam documentation highlights a way to make it somewhat folder based by splitting the integer into bits ranges and using each bit range to denote something diffrent.
  9. Class ID (classid) - An ID that identifies an item class whose properties are all the same for all items with that class id.
  10. Instance ID (instanceid) - An ID that describes an item instance that inherits properties from a class with the class id being noted in the instance.
  11. Asset ID (assetid) - A unique identifier for an asset (item). This asset will have it's own id, and also a class id and instance id to point to the actual representation of the item. Asset objects can also have amount properties to specify how much of <classid>_<instanceid> the user has for stackable items. Asset IDs can also change when an item is traded, although the classid and instanceid should stay the same.
  12. Currency ID (currencyid) - An ID that identifies a custom currency created by and implemented by the game. This id will stay the same everywhere, unlike asset ids.
  13. Definition ID (defid) - An id unique to the app scope that steam uses internally to map items to attributes in a schema file.
  14.
  15. Each asset in the Steam Economy can be uniquely identified by the combination of three numbers: App ID, Context ID, and Asset ID

  19. icon_url If the icon_url is not a url then prefix this url to the value of icon_url "https://steamcommunity-a.akamaihd.net/economy/image/"
  20. And to get different sizes one can add a "/" to the end of the url and attach the dimensions the app wishes to retrieve the image as.
  21. This will resize the image to fit within the given dimensions maintaining the aspect ratio of the original image.
  22. If one wants to force dimensions for an image just add an f after the dimension, /300fx50
  23. This will still resize the image to fit within the given dimensions maintaining the aspect ratio, but it will be centered within the given dimensions and the complete image will have given dimensions.
