  4. Chapter 0: Prologue
  5.
  6. It is the year Universal Century 0100, and the Earth sphere is, finally, at peace. Ever since the One Year War of 0079, a series of wars has raged from the Gryps conflict to the numerous Neo Zeon wars, all culminating in 0092, with the Axis Crisis. Axis, a Newborn Zeon controlled Asteroid Base, was planned to be sent to earth, forcing a nuclear winter and causing any survivors to leave the planet. This, of course, did not happen, and after a surprise change of heart on the part of Char, he and Amuro use their Newtype abilities to cause the Axis Shock, forcing Axis back from it’s entry into earth’s atmosphere.
  7.
  8. After the Crisis ended, and with Newborn Neo Zeon retaining much of its strength still, the Earth Federation approached Newborn Zeon with an offer. Leave the Earth Sphere entirely, take Mars, and the Federation would not bother them so long as Zeon did not antagonize the Federation. Seeing this as the best deal for Zeonic and Spacenoid independence they were going to get, Newborn Neo Zeon and the Earth Federation signed the Axis Accords, recognizing Neo Zeon as an independent nation. Whatever colonies wished would be escorted across the void to join the new nation, with the people boarding large ships while the uninhabited O'neill Cylinders crossed the span of space between Earth and Mars.
  9.
  10. Mars, however, was already inhabited. Mars Zeon had been a thing since 0080, with Zeon Remnants fleeing to the red planet to avoid confrontation with the Federation. In the 12 years since that time, the planet had begun the process of Terraforming the planet, and by 0093, an atmosphere had been formed, and at the very least one could breath the martian air. Over seven long years, the newly formed United Martian Zeon had cemented its dominance in the Mars Sphere, though most of its population lies in orbiting colonies, or in the Capital city of Mons, which fittingly surrounds the volcano-turned-Mass Driver, Olympus Mons. With Char, now using his real name Casval Deikun for the first time in decades, elected as Prime Minister of the UMZ, the newborn nation has become a new superpower, with its research on Newtypes and Psychoframe technology unsurpassed by the Earth Federation, or the Jupiter Colonies.

  12. Chapter 1: The Elysium Mons
  13.
  14. The flash of a beam cannon illuminates the void, the lance of particle beam fire cutting through an old Salamis, modified to it’s current occupants liking. The ship cracked in two, the beam that had just impacted it striking it’s Minovsky reactor, causing a massive explosion. The explosion illuminates several Mobile Suits, some Hizacks, a few Zaku Stutzers, even a Dom, however, nothing would be a match for the modern Suits of the Martian Zeon Defense Force.
  15.
  16. The ship firing upon the pirate flotilla was The Elysium Mons, a Gwadan-Kai class patrol carrier. It was part of the MZDF fleet reconstruction program, which sought to rebuild the Newborn Neo Zeon, Now United Martian Zeon fleet after the Axis Crisis. The ship was massive, at 400m, it was smaller than its predecessor, thanks to advances in miniaturization technology in the 13 years since said predecessor was first fielded by Axis Zeon. The hanger bay was the only thing untouched, afterall, for a patrol carrier intended for weeks to months of deployment along the Earth/Mars Sphere border, 100 mobile suits on call was a crucial thing to have. The captain gave the order, and orders to scramble the mobile suits of Lances Alpha and Charlie were broadcasted throughout the ship.
  17.
  18. Corporal John Berenzenovich rushed to get his pilot’s suit on, tossing his cap into the locker outside the pilot’s barracks. This would be the second actual combat flight he’d be sent on as part of Charlie Lance, though the last sortie they had been sent on saw Alpha and Bravo lances cleaning up before Charlie even got near the battle. The other four members of the lance were just finishing up putting on their suits. There was Reno; A Geara Doga pilot like John, Erina; the Lance’s resident Newtype, who piloted a Mass production type Jagd Doga, Aaron; who was assigned a Marasai II, a very heavily modified Marasai E type which brought the older model up to par with newer suits, and finally Sara; The commander of the Lance, in a Sazabi-B Commander Type. The five raced off to the Mons’s expansive hangar bay, where they glided across the zero-g bay to their machines. One of the mechanics let John know about the calibrations they had made, to which John was happy to hear about.
  19.
  20. “Just, don’t get the shit shot outta this thing man, took us weeks to unstick the left leg actuator.” The mechanic said before John hopped into the machine’s cockpit.
  21.
  22. “Trust me, the last thing I wanna do in my first taste of actual combat is get taken out by a twenty year old mobile suit. I’ll bring her back safe and sound, don’t you worry!” The cockpit hatch closes, followed by John turning the Suit on, the OS activating with the familiar humm of the Doga’s minovsky reactor. The Lance-Comms activated, and in the corner of the screen in front of him was the face of Lieutenant Sara Michaels.
  23.
  24. “Alright Charlie Lance, this shouldn’t be a hard fight, but don’t get sloppy. However old those suits are, they’re still packing beam weapons, and seeing as none of our suits get that fancy gold anti-beam coating, I expect all of you to not get careless out there. Am I understood?” The four others under her command responded with a resounding “Yes Ma’am!”, before they began making their way towards the MS catapults, where Alpha Lance was currently taking off from. Alpha lance, unlike Charlie, were all newtypes, aces at that, and piloted Jagd Dogas more in line with the high performance types used during the Axis Crisis seven years prior. Except for the Lance Commander, who piloted a Psychoframe enabled Sazabi Mass production type.
  25.
  26. “Well, if it’s anything like last time, they’ll just pick apart the Pirate suits before we get there…” John grumbled to himself, unaware the Lance-Comms were still on. When he did notice, he quickly shut up. The last thing he wanted was to piss off Lt. Michaels. To his surprise, it was the Newtype, Erina who spoke up.
  27.
  28. “Relax John, I’m sure you’ll get one this time!” She was always so energetic, insisting on calling everyone by their first names, aside from the Lieutenant. John sighed, she might be right, being a newtype and all. They could see the future or some shit, right? His thoughts were interrupted by the jolt of his Geara Doga stepping onto the Catapult, to which not a moment later he was propelled out of the hanger. His training and countless hours of simulations kicked in, and he activated his thrusters, his Mobile Suit rocketing towards the now ongoing combat.
  29.
  30. The winch arm of a Zaku II Stutzer catches the funnel of a Jagd Doga, crushing it before it’s controller could do anything. He curses, and focuses his Beam Assault Rifle on the garishly painted relic of a Mobile Suit, and all his shots go wide. Before he can react, he’s forced to quickly boost upwards, as a second Stutzer winch attempts to grapple him, which at the range it was at would quickly be a death sentence with the beam rifles the Zaku’s had mounted to them. His newtype instincts allowed him to narrowly escape the grasp of the Stutzer, however a third and forth descended upon him, Heat-Hawks at the ready. This was it, he was dead...or so he thought, as the beams of a Geara Doga’s BMG tore through the armor of one of the pirate machines, the Zaku exploding mere moments later. Charlie Lance had arrived to back them up, and the newtype ace, for once, was thankful they hadn’t been sent alone.
  31.
  32. “Hell yeah! You were right Erina! I nailed that bastard!” John was ecstatic at his luck. Seeing the nearly trapped Jagd Doga, he knew the pilot would be dead if he didn’t risk a burst at the range he was at. Unfortunately for him, the Three zakus turned their attention to him, quickly boosting towards Charlie Lance. Unfortunately for them, they were torn to pieces as a trio of OD Green funnels fired particle beams into their undersides as they were all about to fire on the Geara Doga piloted by John.
  33.
  34. “And I stopped those three from scuffing your paint job!” Erina responded to John’s own gloat, smirking a bit. John shook his head, and pressed on forwards. He totally could have taken those three suits on, right? Regardless of those thoughts, he darted through the wreckage of the Salamis, taking cover behind what was once a section of rear armor to avoid the fire of two Hizacks. He responded with his own, far more overwhelming Beam Machine Gun, missing one of the suits, but punching several holes in the other. The head was shot completely through, and the right arm and leg of the thing had been shorn off completely. He could see the pilot try to get out, but that didn’t matter, as the other Hizack ignited it’s beam sword and rushed him in a near suicidal attack. John responded with his grenade launcher, the RPG punching right into the Ex-Titans mobile suit’s chest before exploding violently. By the time he looked back at the other Hizack, the pilot was long gone, and the thing drifted lifelessly in the void.
  35.
  36. The other Charlie Lance pilots were having similar engagements, Aaron’s Marasai had stayed in the rear, using the beam sniper his less agile machine was designed around to pick off what looked like command suits, however he was flanked, and only saved by the timely intervention of Lt. Michaels. Reno nearly bit it when an Xeku Eins surprised him by hiding behind the Debris of the Salamis, though a pair of bright yellow funnels took care of it in a flash, leading to the Xeku exploding with it’s reactor being penetrated. By the end of the battle, all the pirates were either captured or dead, and MS Lances Alpha and Charlie make their return to the Elysium Mons.
  37.
  38. One by one the Mobile suits come into the hangar, with technical crews and mechanics descending upon the machines to examine and repair any damage done to them. Of course, with Alpha’s higher performance machines, they had gotten to the carrier first, leaving Charlie Lance to meander outside while the Aces got their special treatment.
  39.
  40. “Did you guys see that? I took out two Hizacks no problem! Serves ‘em right for using suits from the Titans...No offence Aa- I mean, Sergeant Koval.” Aaron laughs “None taken John. Wasn’t my idea to get this thing. At least it’s up to par with a Doga.”
