  1. I am not too cognizant of how law enforcement in other countries operates, but I have a few observations regarding the police within the United States. Also, please note that these are observations of the job, not assumptions of individual police officers.
  2.
  3. Police are trained to lie and be coercive. Police are trained to be manipulative. In general, it is a fair assumption to go into a situation expecting that nothing that an on-duty police officer is telling you is the truth. If a police officer tells you that they are conducting random searches due to an increase in crime within the area, they are trying to coerce you into waiving your right against unlawful searches. The reason that many people, myself included, have an issue with this notion is that the government (and, by extension, law enforcement) exists to protect your rights, not subvert them.
  4.
  5. Police are trained to be mean and aggressive. Police are trained to be condescending and to be antagonistic. What they seek is for you to fear them and submit to their authoritative privilege. This is why the police don't like it when you, as a citizen, stand up for yourself and know your rights.
  6.
  7. Police are trained to provoke and escalate situations. Police are trained to find reasonings to arrest people and to be aggressive. Even if you are not overtly retaliating, the human body will naturally tense up and enter fight-or-flight mode when it is being assaulted, whether physically or psychologically. However, the police can use that as an excuse that you were "resisting arrest."
  8.
  9. Also, remember this fact. The police do not have to "serve and protect" you, as a citizen. The Supreme Court of the United States of America actually stated that in Warren v. District of Columbia. If law enforcement fails to respond to a 911 call, you cannot sue them or take any other sort of legal measure in retaliation.
  10.
  11. Actually, the main job of the police (theoretically) is to enforce the law. By doing so, they collect revenue for themselves. If the police actually cared about preventing crimes (such as speeding), then they would not ride around in unmarked vehicles and hide. However, less crime would equal less revenue for them, so that is what they do. They want you to speed so that they can pull you over and write you a ticket.
  12.
  13. Whether you agree or disagree with police officer Darren Wilson’s decision to kill Michael Brown, I urge those who read this to understand that the United States, as well as humanity as a whole, currently has a deeply ingrained system in place that is lacking both in equality and justice. Birthrights, such as one’s gender and race, are incredibly pertinent and prominent issues that continue to play a large role in hierarchical stratification and socioeconomic mobility within the world. Simply stating that you personally don’t discriminate against others does not change the nauseating fact that the rest of the world fails to function on that very same paradigm. So long as those who wield power are allowed to perpetuate their fallacious ideologies and abuse their privileges, change shall not happen and the frustration within society will continue to dangerously escalate.
