  1. <Brand> December 2nd, 1973.
  2. <Brand> Undisclosed Location in Afghanistan
  3. <Brand> The tape begins here.
  4. <Brand> Miller's voice, the sound of pen scratching on paper and a clipboard, the desert wind occasionally blowing in the background. "And... your signing papers... and great. Go see Makhor, he'll get you fitted in your new uniform. Welcome to Militares Sans Frontieres." Footsteps - a man moving away, a tentflap being pushed aside. "Bring in the next one?"
  5. <Asra_Nejem> The sound of feet shuffling through dirt before the creak of metal being strained as weight was pressed down upon a metal chair. There is silences except for a slight harsh breath of a person.
  6. <Brand> "Hello there." Miller's voice, echoing through the tent. Has your commander told you about the surrender?"
  7. <Asra_Nejem> "Yes," a soft, soprano responds after a brief pause. The chair creaks once more as weight is shifted slightly.
  8. <Brand> "Well - then let me explain what your options are now. We can either hold you as a Prisoner of War until our contract is complete in this region, give you a plane ticket to... well, most places in the world, if you decide you're done being a mercenary. Or... well, you can work for our outfit."
  9. <Brand> "Your Commander - and so far, everyone else in your group - seems to think that last one's the right call. I won't pressure you though - I understand a career change can be a tough decision to make."
  10. <Asra_Nejem> There is another pause as the chair creaks once more. "There is only one choice for me then. All I can do is follow the Company," the soprano replied with a resigned tone.
  11. <Brand> "Hey - there's no need to be so glum about it. We'll do our best to match your last contract - and you'll be serving under the best soldier in the world."
  12. <Brand> There's an audible groan, now - from Big Boss.
  13. <Brand> "Kaz..."
  14. <Asra_Nejem> The chair creaks once more, this time a bit more sharply. "Ah --- yes, I think I recognize him. At least, before being propelled into the sky via balloon," the soft soprano voice mumbled the last bit with an annoyed tone.
  15. <Brand> "The Fulton Surface To Air Recovery System." Big Boss explains. "We'll... teach you how to use that. Call me Snake."
  16. <Brand> The sound of rustling paper, a lighter. "Do you smoke?"
  17. <Asra_Nejem> "Asra --- Asra Nejem." the voice introduced before the chair creaked once more. "Thank you."
  18. <Brand> Flick.... and a deep breath, after a moment, followed by an exhale. "According to your commander, you're a bit of a gearhead, huh?" He asks.
  19. <Asra_Nejem> A couple of short breaths could be heard before a pause and a following exhale. "Yes. Guns, Vehicles, and some other equipment. The Company mostly kept me in a rear-line position after I joined them." Asra's voice answered with a distant, thoughtful tone.
  20. <Brand> "Only after?" Snake asks - a follow up. "Hmm... what about before?"
  21. <Asra_Nejem> A few more short breaths followed by an exhale. "Kurdish Militia. Recon Duties. Fighting Iraqis." the soprano voice answered with another distant tone.

  23. <Brand> Another deep breath... in, and out. Then - "How do you feel about doing both? Recon, field engineering... sabotage. That sort of thing."
  24. <Asra_Nejem> "I can do it with no issues. I think the Western phrase is 'like riding a bicycle'." A small snort echoes through the tent. "Never dealt with explosive much, but I can pick it up if needed."
  25. <Brand> "Mmm... you'll fit right in. We're not the kind of outfit that goes in guns blazing all the time. Your head's the greatest weapon in a soldier's arsenal - and it looks like you're trained to use it."
  26. <Asra_Nejem> A deep breath and an exhale. "It kept me alive in Iraq at least --- though that was more luck and eventually experience. 'Conscripts' don't get much training in the Militias. The Company fixed all the quirks and mistakes."
  27. <Brand> A nod. "Then Militares Sans Frontiers will help to hone your trade. An army without borders, for soldiers with no countries or ideologies to fight for." The sound of clothes moving. "And your new home, if you're up for it, Asra."
  28. <Asra_Nejem> There is a brief pause in breath. "Home --- I'd like that, Snake." Asra's voice echoed softly once more before the shuffle of cloth was heard once more.
