  1. THE BLACK CHAMBERS
  2. The Black Chambers is a region bound by mystery. The areas surrounding this settlement are fraught with light forests and waters--a peaceable area that heavily contrasts with the decrepit stone buildings that litter the area, from houses to walls to towers. It seemed that what the black chambers was was a noble city, but it is now victim to the erosion of time and, possibly, something else at an earlier time.
  3.
  4. The Black Chambers was largely unheard of and unpopulated by many adventurers up until 1339, when a clan of Kobolds living along the Steel River were driven out of their homes by [hostile forces???] and forced northward. Unfamiliar with the land, the people were led by Audae Vulzac toward any place that would keep them safe and distant from their former threats. They were fortunate--they discovered an abandoned ruin. Although some of the more intelligent Kobolds were careful to enter an abandoned place due to its possible magical affinities and trapped halls, many reckless ones took out some of the more obvious traps before they could be stopped. Audae managed the rest so that they could get settled. They disabled any further traps or, rather, pitfalls that the place had. As reconstruction was going on, however, Audae was swamped by some falling rubble and died of asphyxiation, meaning that a new leader was needed.
  5.
  6. This new leader was chosen by lot out of those who had lived long enough to be deemed as worth, and the victor ended up being Kahun Sohlas. Kahun did everything in his power to have the Kobolds keep to themselves and avoid detection by their former opponents. The colony needed to survive--they themselves were all they had. As they explored the dark halls of the abandoned towers, in the early months of the following year, they began mining and discovered secret chambers throughout the city. They were all made of a similar dark stone, and, by this detail, they christened the place "The Black Chambers" (or, in Draconic, Hofkahseved) in honor of what it simply was. The Kobolds were thrilled that they could already have tunnels underground and could advance their rebuilding much more quickly than expected. Kahun generally benefited in popularity and influence among his people from these discoveries.
  7.
  8. Kahun's isolationist policies worked well with the Kobold population, as not many wanted to be out and about, other than merchants, who missed their old trade. But they were restricted and it stayed that way for many years.
  9.
  10. In 1365, after many years of said policies, Kahun was killed after attempting to deal with [creature???] that scouts had reported was threatening their situation and could possibly drive them out or be a threat. In his place, another Kobold quickly rose to prominence and stomped out the threat. He ascended to a leadership greater than the Kobolds before him and was quite influential among his people, once again allowing the merchants to roam more freely. However, he went beyond that, going to both the Botsi Stronghold and Pafeld in the nearest empires and declaring his peoples' autonomy and jurisdiction of land while setting up trading pacts with them. The Kobold calls himself Krasiisk, or "Illfang," and appears not to be much of a threat to the neighboring empires.
  11.
  12. As of 1372, The Black Chambers still stands as a Kobold colony and trading continues to grow more vast for its people. It is not officially recognized as its own nation, but claims territory nonetheless.

  15. The Black Chambers was a city taken and partially destroyed during the time of the Demon Kings.

  19. ILLFANG THE KOBOLD LORD
  20.
  21. As the Kobold population grew, in 1341, Kahun, the current leader of the Kobolds, mated with a female Kobold and a Dragonwrought egg came forth. These eggs are highly valued by the Kobolds and are cared for separately, as they are few and far between, but are a sign of draconic heritage. When the egg hatched, the Kobold within was named Dolyos.
  22.
  23. Dolyos himself was not only dragonwrought, but he was also in tune with the dragon blood within him and clearly had the magic touch for sorcery. He was quickly snatched up by the Kobold sorcerers and taught, while being graced in the mines and learning some from his father and others about their society. He wasn't as put to hard labor as the other Kobolds, but was diligently taught about fighting skills and every trick of the trade that they could shove into his mind. Dolyos went through the rites of sorcery, further awakening his draconic bloodline, and began to hone and study magic more deeply as he was becoming an adult.
  24.
  25. However, throughout all this, his studies took him to be interested in the world around him. The merchants, who had long been reigned in by the isolationist policies of the Kobolds, told stories of what life was like back in the Steel River colony, at the Botsi Stronghold, trading in the Stemore Empire and even as far as Astrieze and Namra. Dolyos listened closely to their trade and experiences and fancied the merchants' way of speaking and dealing with others. He incorporated a sorcerer's careful tongue into his everyday life through coming to a greater understanding about the mercantile practices. He slowly became more involved in his people's lives beyond his studies and became a prominent figure among the colony of The Black Chambers.
  26.
  27. In 1365, after a decently long reign, Kahun went out with some of his guards to deal with a possible threat to The Black Chambers. However, they were unheard of for days. It was assumed that their leader was dead. With that, the elders and prominent figures needed to figure out who to elect as 'leader' to guide everyone onward. It was quickly apparent that Dolyos was a primary candidate, and he was given the leadership role, rapidly taking action to find and crush the creature that he later found had killed his father and the guards. Due to Dolyos' charisma and influence, he kept the role and ascended to a power that was relatively unheard of for the Kobolds. It was not simply a communal voice with a tinge of opinion that he had; rather, he had his own ideas and commands that the community listened to.
  28.
  29. Having pitied the merchants that had mostly lost their trade, Dolyos once again gave them free reign to trade with others. But, more than that, he wanted his people to survive and thrive in this place that they now called home. Coming himself as an emissary of his people, he journeyed to the Botsi Stronghold and Pafeld to cement his peoples' status and independence with the nearby empires, setting up trading relations and showing that he poses no threat to them. But he did not call himself Dolyos--rather, he named himself Illfang or, in Draconic, Krasiisk.
