  1. Chapter 37
  2.
  3. Jack checked the time for the third time in as many minutes, grimacing that so little time had passed.
  4.
  5. “You need to relax a little bit.” Hilda said. “You’re stewing really hard right now.”
  6.
  7. Jack sighed. “I know-” Suddenly his phone started ringing and he looked at who was calling, seeing it was Misty.
  8.
  9. “Misty, what’s up?” He asked.
  10.
  11. “Hey Jack... So something happened with Nebby yesterday.”
  12.
  13. “What? You’re kidding!” Jack said, alarmed, thinking Lusamine had made another move.
  14.
  15. “Well I think Nebby... evolved.” Misty said. “At least that’s what this professor who came by earlier said.”
  16.
  17. “Professor?”
  18.
  19. “This guy Samson Oak, nice dude. We didn’t realize Kukui was on Akala with you. He finally returned our call this morning.” Misty explained.
  20.
  21. “Kukui trusts him?” Jack said.
  22.
  23. “Yes.” Misty said. “So, Nebby is now really heavy and encased in some weird shell now...”
  24.
  25. “Very weird.” Jack said. “So no one tried to steal it?”
  26.
  27. “No. I’m sure they couldn’t even lift it if they tried.” Misty said.
  28.
  29. “Okay good.” Jack replied, relieved.
  30.
  31. “I think you need a pic or something.” Misty said.
  32.
  33. “No need. I’ll be back tonight.” Jack said casually.
  34.
  35. “Wait what? Really?” Misty said.
  36.
  37. “Yeah. Plane tickets are booked. Got some shit to settle with Lusamine, but I’m going home right after.”
  38.
  39. “And you’re getting Oleana out of here?” Misty asked.
  40.
  41. Jack grinned wide. “Oh you’ll love what’s in store for that bitch.”
  42.
  43. “Should I tell the girls, or should I leave it for a surprise?” Misty said.
  44.
  45. “Don’t tell them, I need to blindside Oleana.” Jack said. “Tell the girls I love them and I’ll see them soon.”
  46.
  47. “Best news I’ve heard in a while.” Misty said. “I’ll see you then.”
  48.
  49. “Yeah... Love you Misty.” Jack said.
  50.
  51. “And I say hi!” Hilda chimed in.
  52.
  53. “Oh yeah, and Hilda’s back.” Jack said.
  54.
  55. “Yes!” Misty said excitedly. “Can’t wait until then.”
  56.
  57. ***
  58.
  59. Jack sat with Hilda at a table in an isolated section of the Sea House Restaurant. Hilda’s eyes were fixated on her phone, making sure all of the arrangements were ready, while Jack glared at the door, waiting for Lusamine to waddle in.
  60.
  61. “Any moment now.” Jack muttered.
  62.
  63. “Now I’m hoping she’s late.” Hilda said nonchalantly.
  64.
  65. “What? Why?”
  66.
  67. “Because I’m finally getting to see you squirm.” Hilda teased.
  68.
  69. Jack grimaced. “Well don’t get used to it.”
  70.
  71. “Fat chance.” Hilda said.
  72.
  73. “Okay fatty.” Jack said, prodding her side fat, causing Hilda to yelp and try to slap his hand away. She grabbed his hand and smiled into his eyes, and Jack took a deep breath. “Thanks.”
  74.
  75. “Anytime, boss.” Hilda said, looking at the host stand and seeing the person of interest. “Well, now’s my time to leave. Good luck.” Hilda said, giving him a quick smooch before getting up and waving Lusamine and the two staff members escorting her over to the table.
  76.
  77. Lusamine waddled slowly, she looked ravishing as always. She had to be pushing 520 pounds by Jack’s estimation, and he noticed she no longer could wear her signature heels, he felt his loins begin to stir, but shook it off. “Real shit.” Jack reminded himself under his breath, Accompanying Lusamine were two Aether staff memebers clad in all white, one skinny male, and one very portly female staff member who seemed to be pushing 380 pounds.
  78.
  79. “Talk about occupational hazards...” He muttered one last time before putting a big, fake grin.
  80.
  81. “Lusamine!” Jack said, getting up and giving the enormous woman a hug.
  82.
  83. “Mr. Cobal, so great to see you!” Lusamine said, pushing her excess blubber into him and giving a wiggle for him, gauging how hard he was.
  84.
  85. “Been too long.” Jack replied.
  86.
  87. “Definitely. ” She winked. “You should’ve told me you were here earlier, I would’ve stopped by a few times while I was on Akala.”
  88.
  89. Jack smiled fakely. “Yeah...”
  90.
  91. “So, we get our own area?” Lusamine asked.
  92.
  93. “Yes.” Jack said. “Just you and me.”
  94.
  95. Lusamine eyed the table with two chairs close together. “I see. Chris, Kim, wait outside.”
  96.
  97. “Yes Miss Lusamine.” The two said meekly, and departed.
  98.
  99. Jack held the chairs out for Lusamine so both of her enormous butt cheeks fit well enough. “Gonna have to get another chair if you keep growing at this rate.”
  100.
  101. Lusamine nodded proudly, causing her multiple chins to wobble. “You’re not wrong.”
  102.
  103. Jack took his seat and made sure the two employees were out of earshot.. “So we have some business to talk about.”
  104.
  105. “Just business?” Lusamine said, a sly smile on her face.
  106.
  107. “Maybe.” He said. “What’s yours?”
  108.
  109. “Well, I said I’d probably be pregnant...”
  110.
  111. “Oh yeah.” Jack said, his composure nearly crumbling. He cleared his throat to get back into character. “So, is it...?”
  112.
  113. “We’re pregnant.” Lusamine said, holding her belly. “I’m going to be a mother again.” She said, almost giddy.
  114.
  115. “And a grandmother.” Jack said, glaring at Lusamine.
  116.
  117. Lusamine smiled wickedly. “Good, good.... Sabrina already knew.”
  118.
  119. “I figured.” Jack said with a sigh. “And I assume she knew Nebby’s whereabouts?”
  120.
  121. Lusamine’s grin disappeared. “So, this kind of business...”
  122.
  123. “Yeah.” Jack said. “Right here, right now, what experiments were you performing on that little thing?”
  124.
  125. Lusamine shook her head. “I didn’t perform a single thing on that little creature.”
  126.
  127. “Lillie says differently.” Jack said.
  128.
  129. Lusamine grimaced. “Well, my subordinates sometimes do unauthorized experiments without my knowledge.”
  130.
  131. “You don’t seem the type. You’re too focused.”
  132.
  133. “Really?" Lusamine said playfully. “When did you come across Lillie and Nebby?”
  134.
  135. Jack thought back and realized what she was getting at. “My first day...”
  136.
  137. “And where was I?” Lusamine said. “Oh, on a date with you, in the same bed for a bit of it.”
  138.
  139. Jack nodded. “Fair enough...” Jack pondered for a bit. “That Faba guy’s a creep.”
  140.
  141. Lusamine nodded. “Yeah, but he’s the best at what he does.” She said. “Once Sabrina gives birth to their child, she’s leaving him for you.” Lusamine said.
  142.
  143. “Wha-what?” Jack stammered.
  144.
  145. “Their child together is going to be a revolutionary scientist if it all pans out as she foresees... But she knows she’s going to have a lot more fun with you and your children.”
  146.
  147. Jack grimaced. “I don’t think we’ll be hanging out much...”
  148.
  149. “She thinks differently about that, but she never elaborates.” Lusamine said.
  150.
  151. “Fair enough... So Domino...”
  152.
  153. “Domino?” Lusamine said.
  154.
  155. “The Black Tulip. The woman you hired to nab Nebby?” Jack said. “Team Skull was just a front.”
  156.
  157. Lusamine nodded. “I didn’t think you’d be so close to the International Police.”
  158.
  159. “Hilda had connections.” Jack said.
  160.
  161. “That girl...” Lusamine looked behind him wistfully. “Your kids are going to be great.” Lusamine mused aloud.
  162.
  163. “Sabrina tell you that?”
  164.
  165. Lusamine shook her head. “Consider it a gut instinct.” She said, indicating her titanic, overhanging belly.
  166.
  167. Phoebe waddled over to get drinks and their order, and Jack and Lusamine dropped their defenses for that time, Lusamine having been served by Phoebe many times over the past few months.
  168.
  169. “I love what you did to her.” Jack said.
  170.
  171. “Handing her the first tip I ever gave her... I knew she’d blossom quite well.” Lusamine said.
  172.
  173. “Your influence is all over Akala.” Jack said. “Even the little donut shop close to the DR Lab.”
  174. Lusamine smiled proudly. “Have you been to the Paniola Ranch?”
  175.
  176. Jack nodded. “Just bought it, actually.”
  177.
  178. Lusamine’s eyes widened. “So now we’ll actually be able to buy the ice cream away from the ranch?”
  179.
  180. Jack nodded. “Eventually. They just broke ground on building a new facility.”
  181.
  182. “The taste better not change.” Lusamine warned him.
  183.
  184. “The equipment they use is pretty old. They’re still looking for more of the same machines.” Jack said.
  185.
  186. “Fair enough...” Lusamine concluded. “So the international police...”
  187.
  188. “Turns out some media knew about the little dalliance you and I had my first day, and the IP was able to get them off the trail.”
  189.
  190. “How’d they do it?” Lusamine asked.
  191.
  192. “Didn’t ask.” Jack said. “Why’d you never ask me about Lillie and Nebby?”
  193.
  194. Lusamine grimaced. “I knew they were safe. But I also needed Nebby back.”
  195.
  196. Jack’s expression matched hers. “Couldn’t ask?”
  197.
  198. “You’d say no, and me admitting I knew where Lillie and Cosmog were would’ve made you... trust me less. I figured going through Team Skull would’ve been enough of a decoy, turns out I was too careless.” Lusamine replied.
  199.
  200. “Once I talked to Lillie, I stopped trusting you.” Jack said.
  201.
  202. Lusamine shook her head. “You guys and your pretty girls and always having to be the knight in shining armor...” Lusamine paused. “Everything I’ve done, I’ve done to protect this world.”
  203.
  204. “Including taking that Z-Crystal from my safe?” Jack asked.
  205.
  206. Lusamine smiled wickedly. “I thought we had you there. Marnie seemed very convinced you had no idea.”
  207.
  208. Jack smiled triumphantly. “Hilda ran a background check on her after the second night. And how the hell did she get in my room?”
  209.
  210. Lusamine did the closest thing to a shrug her 525 pound form could do. “Same way she opened the safe, trade secret I guess.”
  211.
  212. Jack folded his arms. “So you get to finally analyze that crystal?”
  213.
  214. Lusamine’s face returned to a grimace. “Yeah, that little fake. I said earlier, you got us. No need to gloat. But we were right weren’t we? Necrozma?”
  215.
  216. Jack nodded. “Most likely.”
  217.
  218. “If there’s any chance we could just-”
  219.
  220. “Not after that shit you pulled.” He replied. “What’d you think taking Nebby would do?”
  221.
  222. Lusamine hemmed and hawed for a few moments. “Faba believes Cosmog shouldn’t be anywhere near Melemele Island.”
  223.
  224. “Why?”
  225.
  226. “He’s got a couple theories, totally unproven...” Lusamine began. “But he thinks Necrozma and Cosmog are linked, and he thinks any power surge from Nebby could potentially awaken Necrozma from it’s slumber.”
  227.
  228. He thought hard on that idea, remembering the conversation with Misty about Nebby evolving yesterday. “Any particular reason he thinks that?”
  229.
  230. “Apparently Necrozma first appeared when King Kameha performed a ritual in order to evolve a Pokemon into the legendary Solgaleo. Faba believes that Pokemon to be Cosmog, and I agree.”
  231.
  232. Jack shook his head. “That’s a stretch.” Jack said, knowing Cosmog had probably just evolved, and the world hadn’t ended.
  233.
  234. “A bit...” Lusamine said. “Faba was explaining something to me, but he got me during Malasada Monday so I only caught half of what he said.”
  235.
  236. “So Sabrina’s foresight... How much does she see ahead of time?”
  237.
  238. “She says she sees a lot in visions, but isn’t able to remember most of it.” Lusamine said. “Although objects or words trigger her to remember things. She began to remember visions of you more often after interacting with you at that dinner party. Why do you ask?”
  239.
  240. “Whenever there’s something you don’t know, I’m not sure what to think. Whether you’re still playing a trust game with me or don’t actually know.” He responded.
  241.
  242. Lusamine scoffed. “We’re getting everything in the open right now. Yes, I’d been keeping tabs on you, but only because of that crystal of yours and the potential cataclysm it could bring.” She finished, then remembered the beginning of the sentence. “And what don’t I know?” Lusamine asked, deathly serious.
  243.
  244. “The fake crystal...”
  245.
  246. “Oh yeah.” Lusamine said, nodding. “Well she foresaw Marnie taking the case from the safe, and that was it. I suppose the real one is back at the DR Lab-” She paused as a lightbulb went on in her mind. “Kahuna Olivia.”
  247.
  248. Jack nodded. “Got me there. Good luck getting it from her.”
  249.
  250. Lusamine shook her head. “No chance. She can enlist a Tapu’s help at any time. As long as it stays with her, I suppose it should be alright.”
  251.
  252. “So do you think I should destroy the Necrozma Z-Crystal?” Jack asked.
  253.
  254. Lusamine shook her head, causing her chins to wobble. “Not after you let Aether analyze it at least.”
  255.
  256. Jack shook his head. “Not anytime soon after this shit.”
  257.
  258. Lusamine’s intense, green eyes fixated on him for half a minute, looking for gaps in his armor, she then broke eye contact and sighed, defeated. “I guess we’ll have to prove our trustworthiness... When I’ve given birth to our child, please reconsider.” She said. “Speaking of my children Mr. Cobal, how’ve you been treating my darling daughter?” Lusamine asked.
  259.
  260. Conversation lightened from there, Jack told her the things Lillie had been doing, eating, cleaning, and taking care of Nebby. He mentioned she’d joined the harem, but neglected to mention the whole Oleana saga he’d been going through. He was sure Lillie was having a hard time dealing with the crazy bitch.
  261.
  262. Lunch lasted over ninety minutes, with Lusamine eating dish after dish, eventually having a hard time lifting her arms due to the excess flab. When it was time for Lusamine to go, Jack gave her a kiss good bye and a rub on the belly, wishing his child safety. Hilda came over to the table as Lusamine and her retainers left the restaurant.
  263.
  264. “So how’d it go?”
  265.
  266. “Pretty well.” Jack said, still processing the serious parts of their conversation.
  267.
  268. “So everything’s okay?” Hilda asked.
  269.
  270. Jack shrugged. “I suppose. I didn’t mention Nebby possibly evolving though.”
  271.
  272. Hilda shrugged. “She hasn’t earned that trust yet.”
  273.
  274. “Agreed.” He said, taking a deep breath. “Well Hilda, plane flight is in a couple hours, lets go get packed. Finally... Going home.” Jack said, a determined look coming across his face.
  275.
  276.
  277. (Was really exicted to get to this chapter, been thinking about this conversation for a while. And yeah, lot of plot and dialogue, not a lot of "fun." The ending is in sight though, there'll be plenty of fun between now and then though. Thank you for reading!)
