  1. [23:20] <Tangent> How about a harpy hunt?
  2. [23:20] <IWBTG> For their first meeting?
  3. [23:20] <Tangent> They chase it down to a supermarket, end up without stopping the harpy and covered in fruit?
  4. [23:20] <Tangent> Or just in media res
  5. [23:21] <Tangent> "Well, that could have gone better."
  6. [23:22] <Tangent> Less of a straight up monster hunt more "evict the supernatural beings causing trouble"?
  7. [23:23] <IWBTG> Definitely, that sounds good
  8. [23:23] <IWBTG> It takes Nadia out of her element since she's more accustomed to being a Hulk-buster than clearing out lots of weaker enemies
  9. [23:23] <Tangent> mmm
  10. [23:23] <Tangent> And the non-lethal aspect since these are people and the swarming means Holly's gimped as well
  11. [23:23] <Tangent> Can't just zap them that'd be murder but they don't want to leave
  12. [23:24] <Tangent> so she's tryin to taze swarms of angry flying humanoid birds that might be larger than she is :D
  13. [23:24] <Tangent> While being pummeled by produce
  14. [23:25] <Tangent> >when Holly'd decided to treat her role as being a superhero, she hadn't envisioned being covered in carrot juice.
  15. [23:27] <IWBTG> Hahaha
  16. [23:28] <Tangent> So the setting's a crowded supermarket in broad daylight
  17. [23:28] <Tangent> being raided by harpies
  18. [23:28] <Tangent> :D
  19. [23:29] <IWBTG> What are they doing?
  20. [23:29] <IWBTG> Stealing food?
  21. [23:29] <IWBTG> Generally being a nuisance?
  22. [23:29] <Tangent> mmm
  23. [23:29] <Tangent> Yeah
  24. [23:29] <Tangent> what you'd expect from harpies
  25. [23:29] <IWBTG> If they're not hurting anything Nadia's just as likely to say screw it and just go find more important prey. :P
  26. [23:29] <Tangent> Well, they're causing a panic and clawing people who try to stop them if that gets the duo to investigate? :p
  27. [23:30] <Tangent> Or would this be Nadia going "screw it" after seeing the scene?
  28. [23:30] <IWBTG> Well I think the danger sense would lead them to the monsters.
  29. [23:30] <Tangent> mmm
  30. [23:31] <Tangent> So they investigate, get attacked by harpies with produce, then Nadia decides not her problem?
  31. [23:31] <IWBTG> But when she gets there, if no one is bleeding and it looks like a hassle she's likely to just drop the hero act for a second and be like "Man, this seems like a huge pain."
  32. [23:31] <Tangent> haha
  33. [23:31] <IWBTG> But if they're hurting people then she'll go for it.
  34. [23:31] <Tangent> yay party disagreements
  35. [23:31] <Tangent> Like I want them to be more or less harmless if that makes sense
  36. [23:31] <Tangent> maybe causing a panic, clawing people that try to stop them but not a straight up danger
  37. [23:32] <Tangent> Less "gelo monster that ate someone" and more "the magical equivalent of a misdemenour"
  38. [23:32] <IWBTG> Mmhmm. It will definitely work, Nadia just might be more willing to drop it than if it was a more mortal threat.
  39. [23:32] <Tangent> Neat, party conflict
  40. [23:32] <Tangent> >Holly's pissed off and wants to stop them on principle
  41. [23:33] <Tangent> Guessing that doesn't go well and she eventually agrees to go while she still has some scraps of dignity left? :D
  42. [23:34] <IWBTG> "Man, I'm covered in banana gunk, they're not actually hurting anyone, and I can't use my sword. Either we get to use force and scare them off or I don't think this is worth our time."
  43. [23:35] <Tangent> hehe, what after that?
  44. [23:36] <Tangent> Maybe try and talk the harpies out of breaking in while the place is packed with customers?
  45. [23:37] <IWBTG> >buster sword
  46. [23:37] <IWBTG> >crater in the ground
  47. [23:37] <Tangent> Lightning rod for synchronized craters? :D
  48. [23:37] <IWBTG> >frustrated angry face
  49. [23:38] <Tangent> "No more daytime snack raids, mkay?"
  50. [23:38] <IWBTG> "Wanna make my job easy? Because either way this goes I think it'll be easy."
  51. [23:38] <Tangent> "I'm tired, I'm hungry, and I'm covered in carrot juice. Go on, make my day."
  52. [23:38] <Tangent> "...That is how that quote goes, right?"
  53. [23:39] <Tangent> I'm bad at improvised dialogue hehe
  54. [23:39] <Tangent> *Heh
  55. [23:39] <IWBTG> "It's close enough for these jerks." She cocks her head and smiles at them. "Right?"
  56. [23:41] <Tangent> I think we have a story outline :D
  57. [23:43] <Tangent> Part 1 is supermarket, Part 2 is Nadia and Holly heading back to wherever they're staying, Part 3's them finding and having a talk with the harpies?
  58. [23:44] <IWBTG> We could do Part 1 and 3 in the same section, with the two resorting to threatening lethal force out of desperation, and then have Part 2 lead into a different story arc if you prefer
  59. [23:45] <Tangent> Sure, thinking of Part 2 as more of a timeskip/character interaction moment
  60. [23:45] <Tangent> rather than just "okay nonlethal didn't work, let's just escalate then and there"
  61. [23:46] <Tangent> Since the idea's that Nadia and Holly run away/give up for the moment, right?
  62. [23:46] <Tangent> By parts I mean sections of a single story btw
  63. [23:47] <IWBTG> Ah, I see
  64. [23:47] <IWBTG> Yeah, that could work
  65. [23:47] <Tangent> shiny
  66. [23:48] <Tangent> Oh yeah is a thread up?
  67. [23:49] <IWBTG> I don't actually know; I just saw that it was down
  68. [23:49] <Tangent> mm
  69. [00:05] <Tangent> Maybe a day off for another snippet idea?
  70. [00:07] <IWBTG> Sure
  71. [00:09] <Tangent> by which I mean the characters having a day off, heh realized the wording was poor
  72. [00:10] <IWBTG> OH, I thought you meant we take a day off to come up with another idea
  73. [00:10] <IWBTG> Which I was confused about but willing to accept :P
  74. [00:10] <Tangent> yeah derp wording, haha
  75. [00:11] <Tangent> character day off sound like another idea for latre?
  76. [00:11] <Tangent> later?
  77. [00:11] <IWBTG> Yeah, that sounds like a solid plan
  78. [00:11] <IWBTG> I think getting good character interaction is important
  79. [00:12] <Tangent> mmm, any ideas?
  80. [00:15] <IWBTG> For a day off? I think Nadia takes off the mask and plays video games
  81. [00:15] <IWBTG> Maybe tries to be cool and pretend she knows what she's talking about by teaching her how to play fighting games and how they transfer to fighting real monsters
  82. [00:19] <Tangent> Hmmm thinking Holly winds up dubious about that, slightly scrambled memories or no, but plays along anyway? Dunno heh, still not sure how much mind-whammy I want to go with for the set-up to meeting Nadia.
  83. [00:23] <IWBTG> "What? No, it's totally valid! Look, you just control space, read your opponent, and go for mix-ups; totally applicable to real fighting!
  84. [00:24] <Tangent> "...That makes a lot more sense than it probably ought to...Just so you know, I'm kinda terrible at these."
  85. [00:26] <IWBTG> "Then get good. I'll teach you!"
  86. [00:53] <Tangent> hmmm video games as segway into chatter?
  87. [00:54] <IWBTG> Sounds as plausible as anything else
  88. [00:54] <IWBTG> Honestly it'll probably just be a backdrop for them to start talking
  89. [00:55] <Tangent> mhmm
  90. [02:11] <Tangent> Would it be more amusing for Holly to do well or badly at vidya?
  91. [02:12] <IWBTG> I mean, has she played video games extensively before?
  92. [02:12] <IWBTG> I kind of decided Nadia plays fighters competitively because I do that, and if we're self-inserting then we may as well go the full nine
  93. [02:13] <Tangent> Fighting games not so much- clueless, haven't really had all that much exposure, and all around kind of shit reflexes. The last bit's the main divergence for the fic's purposes. Probably do badly, yeah.
  94. [02:17] <Tangent> So yeah Holly gets facerolled. :D
  95. [02:19] <IWBTG> Nadia will definitely take the time to teach
  96. [02:20] <IWBTG> She'd just be excited about having someone to play with
  97. [02:27] <Tangent> mm bit sleepy sorry for lack of responses
  98. [02:39] <IWBTG> No, that's fine, I'm pretty much in the same boat
