After spending close to ten subjective years working on a way to actually kill Lavos, I was distrought to find that I'd ended up in a sea full of temporal anomalies and ruins, bereft of companions this time around. To say I was concerned was an understatement, even if Warrant Officer Schrodinger did his customary popping up and snarking at me, as he tends to do at the start of any given jump; at least that was a sign that something had shifted.

Really, the end effect was that I ran into Serge after not particularly long and getting roped into the insanity that followed Lavos' destruction. In short... despite killing the monster, the timeline was still completely and totally screwed up. But the gates that allowed it in the past were closed - which meant that aside from very short hops of a handful of hours at a time, I was locked into the current era. And so, I was along for the ride, in a manner of speaking. Even if I largely dipped in and out, trying to figure out what the hell was going on ahead of everyone else.

Eventually, after being sent to chase my tail and having the resulting headaches, I was able to find and corner Balthasar and get the explanation. And as it turns out... it ends up being a matter of divergent timelines fighting each other to be the most 'valid' timeline. The whole thing was a nightmare, to be terribly frank, and I ended up skipping what might have taken a great deal of time otherwise. No, what I did was to completely, completely cheat.

I resurrected Crono. I resurrected Marle. I resurrected Lucca. I brought them all back.

And then we proceeded to fuck everyone sideways, because fuck this ENTIRE plot.

Sure, there are some problems that are best solved without violence. Sure, liberating Schala from the Time Devourer was definitely one of them. But... some things CAN'T be solved without bloodshed. Humans and dragonians cannot coexist, especially if they're trying to push each other out of existence. A corrupted AI cannot be permitted to exist if it cannot be fixed.

The remains of Lavos that continue to survive death because they draw from alternate timelines where they survived cannot be permitted to survive.

And since I didn't have to worry about accidentally destroying a planet as collateral damage, and it was far from its peak power... I sent them all away from the End of Time, along with the liberated Schala .. or whatever she'd become. Lavos was, after all, weak. But not weak enough to simply die on its own.

On the other hand, this time around, I was more than capable of sending it on its way.
