- Alexina tells you, "You know, I've spoken with Nantafiria recently."
- You tell Alexina, "Oh?"
- Alexina tells you, "Mhmm."
- Alexina tells you, "I was considering seeking admission to the Cabalist guild."
- You tell Alexina, "Interesting. You've interest in scholastic pursuits, then?"
- Alexina tells you, "I have interests in many kinds of pursuits. But yes, knowledge as an
- ideal is something I've become quite familiar with over the years."
- Alexina tells you, "I do have a few concerns, though."
- You tell Alexina, "Concerns?"
- Alexina tells you, "That was probably not the most suitable word in the context. I am
- hesitant, for a few reasons."
- You tell Alexina, "And what might those be?"
- Alexina tells you, "Firstly, I question my own motives. At one point, I joined the
- Sciomancers' guild, without really feeling a very strong connection to their ideals. In
- hindsight, I was probably more interested in learning their skills than their history or
- purpose. And I don't want that to happen again."
- Alexina tells you, "Secondly, I doubt my own abilities as a scholar. I am keen to learn,
- but writing is not one of my talents. Obviously, there is more to the Cabalists than that,
- but I feel that whichever guild I decide to join, I wish to be able to contribute in a
- meaningful manner. On the other hand, the chance of succeeding without even trying is
- pretty close to nil."
- You tell Alexina, "There are ways to contribute to the Cabal that do not require you to
- write papers- and even when writing, often something brief but informative can do the
- trick anyway."
- Alexina tells you, "And thirdly, the Cabalist leadership is somewhat intimidating. I
- think it might be the fear of the unknown; it seems easier to me to join the Syssin or
- the Carnifex where I actually know more people. But that is just silly, so meh. I am
- still a bit undecided, but I must say that the Cabalists appear quite intriguing."
- You tell Alexina, "One thing I will say for the Cabal, however, is that you have to be
- fairly self-sufficient. If there are things you want to learn about, find out about, the
- Cabal can help you on your path- but the guild is relatively quiet, and we won't be in
- your ear constantly about doing things."
- Alexina tells you, "Hrm. I am not very talkative myself."
- You tell Alexina, "Cabalists tend to be strong-willed but relatively independant. If you
- think that suits you, you'll probably get along just fine. If you're after a more... hmm,
- constant dialogue, you may find that better elsewhere- not that I'd know, I've been a
- Cabalist all my life."
- Alexina tells you, "I actually think that would suit me quite well."
- Alexina tells you, "I do have one question, if you do not mind."
- You tell Alexina, "Ask."
- Alexina tells you, "What is the purpose of the Cabalist guild? I mean, knowledge in
- itself seems more like a mean to an end in my eyes. Or is that it? Learn more for the
- sake of learning?"
- You tell Alexina, "Well, when it comes down to it, knowledge is power and the one with
- the most knowledge wins. It's sort of a circular arrangement- more knowledge means more
- power, which can be used to arrange circumstances such that we can get more knowledge we
- want."
- Alexina tells you, "Oh."
- Alexina tells you, "I am quite familiar with the concept. It is what I learned in Ve'kahi.
- I suppose it is why I've kept coming back to Ve'kahi as well."
- You tell Alexina, "There's no grand destroy-the-light or worship-such-and-such goal like
- you might find in other guilds. Rather unscientific all told."
- Alexina tells you, "It allows more freedom for the individual, I think."
- You tell Alexina, "Tends to suit Cabalists and the way they approach the world. We're
- united by methodology and a thirst for knowledge, but beyond that Cabalists tend to be
- rather, ah, unique individuals."
