  9. You pull away some fo the debris but can't manage the larger stuff. However, what you were able to move was enough. You find yourself staring at your mother, still mostly buried, and not moving.
  10. genousEnrichment
  11. "Mom? no, no, no, no, no......!"
  12. I take a step back, reeling from shock
  13. "No, no, no, no, why did this happen?"
  14. tears start flowing down my cheeks as I look at her laying there, lifeless. I spent my whole life with her, I loved her like no one else.....
  15. @DM
  16. Didn't Mark say something involving dead people and sprites?
  17. genousEnrichment
  18. did he? maybe I can still do something
  19. I get up and look for my sprite
  20. @DM
  21. As if on cue, your sprite floats up the stairs behind you.
  22. genousEnrichment
  23. I try to beckon it over
  24. @DM
  25. It floats over to you lazily.
  26. genousEnrichment
  27. "maybe you can help me, lil' buddy"
  28. I attempt to move my mother's corpse to the sprite
  29. I feel overwhelmed by sadness every time I look at her...

  36. @DM
  37. You successfully pull her out from the debris. She's already getting cold.
  38. genousEnrichment
  39. I can't help but continue to cry as I hold her in my arms. She encouraged and supported me my entire life... How could she just die like this? It's unfair...
  40. ~sniff~
  41. I gotta try this, if nothing else
  42. she always told me to keep a level head
  43. @DM
  44. The Bionicle sprite floats there in front of you.
  45. genousEnrichment
  46. I lift my mother's body into the sprite
  47. @DM
  48. You hold her up a bit and there's a flash. When your vision clears you see your mother there, floating in front of you, looking rather robotic. "Oh, hello dear."
  49. genousEnrichment
  50. it worked! I'm overcome with relief and joy just as quickly as my sadness fades away
  51. "Mom! It worked!"
  52. "I brought you back!"
  53. I run over and try to hug her
  54. @DM
  55. She hugs you happily. "This is an interesting turn of events. I'm awfully shiny now, aren't I?"
  56. genousEnrichment
  57. wiping away some tears, I remark, "yea, shinier than a button"
  58. "I love you so much, mom"
  59. @DM
  60. "I love you too, dear." She carefully wipes your face, "I'm glad that I get to help you in this endeavor now."
  61. genousEnrichment
  62. "But how did you know so much about this whole bizarre series of events? and why were you here?"
  63. @DM
  64. "You see, I knew from a dear friend and coworker of mine that Sburb would eventually exist. Your father and I also understood that you were destined to play it, and we had agreed to leave you in your very capable hands. We knew you'd be able to do this since the day we found you." She pats your hand, "But I just couldn't bare to leave you all alone
  65. to face whatever was coming."
  66. genousEnrichment
  67. "I dunno what to make of this, honestly..... I'm glad you're here, but also, what's this about, quote-on-quote "finding me"?"
  68. "and who was your co-worker and how'd they know about the game?"
  69. @DM
  70. "I can't tell you much about my coworker, these things were told to me in confidence and I will not betray their trust even if they are likely dead now." She shakes her head, "Your father and I found you in a crater when you were a tiny thing."
  71. genousEnrichment
  72. "hmmmmmmm....." I just shrug my shoulders. "Eh...? I suppose that's quite the revelation, but it's not like it affected anything leading up to this point in time, outside of everything that's happened so far, so that at least gives me a cool origin story"
  73. @DM
  74. She hums in agreement
  75. genousEnrichment
  76. "also, what's this about my destiny? I never cared nor probably will care about grandiose concepts like that, but what makes it so relevant and important all of a sudden?"
  77. @DM
  78. "You and your friends are going to save our universe. Or, at least, what's left of it."
  79. genousEnrichment
  80. "wait, what?"
  81. genousEnrichment
  82. "It was obvious this game was pretty bizarre, beyond even the levels of clowns-running-amok-in-the-city-streets bizarre, but that's just beyond even my understanding of the word "bizarre"
  83. genousEnrichment
  84. "also, what am I supposed to do to accomplish that end-goal and how?"
  85. @DM
  86. "You need to make it through each of your gates as you grow stronger. Do not skip them. Listen to the consorts of your planet and talk to your friends regularly. You may become more powerful than you've ever imagined if you play your cards right." She glows a bit brighter, "If you and your friends survive, you may become true gods."
  87. genousEnrichment
  88. "huh. sounds like the kinda tagline that woulda been used to advertise this game."
  89. "So how would it even be in the realm of possibility to become a god in the first place?"
  90. "pardon me, a ~true god~"
  91. @DM
  92. "You need to go to your land and complete the quests there so that you may grow."
  93. genousEnrichment
  94. "makes sense; typical RPG affairs and all. You didn't mention anything specific about the god stuff, though. Also, what exactly are ~my~consorts? are they just gonna be a bunch of people with quests and stuff?"
  95. "given that consorts are just subservient people and/or serfs and stuff"
  96. @DM
  97. "I'm sorry, these are things you'll have to see for yourself. I can't be more specific."
  98. genousEnrichment
  99. "why can't you be specific?"
  100. @DM
  101. "Due to the nature of the being I am now. I'm a game construct, meant to guide you, but because of that I am not able to tell you everything. It's still, technically, a game and you can't find out everything at the start."
  102. genousEnrichment
  103. "huh, that's annoying, but it's understandable"
  104. "but that brings me to my - hopefully- last question for now: Why is our basement locked?"
  105. @DM
  106. "I couldn't say, I didn't lock it."
  107. genousEnrichment
  108. "Really? I have a feeling whoever locked it took the key with them, so would you mind helping me break the door down? or maybe you're intangible enough to float through the walls?"
  109. "If that's possible, could you just go to the other side and unlock it?"
  110. @DM
  111. "I suppose I could."
  112. genousEnrichment
  113. "thanks, and please do"
  114. @DM
  115. Momsprite floats down the stairs, leading you back towards the basement before floating through the door.
  116. genousEnrichment
  117. I follow closely behind and wait a few feet in front of the door
  118. @DM
  119. There's a few moments of silence, some muffled talking, and then momsprite floats back out of the door. "I wouldn't go in there."
  120. genousEnrichment
  121. "I know I heard something akin to talking, so would you mind telling me why and/or what's behind that door?
  122. @DM
  123. "It would be better if I didn't." She floats away.
  124. genousEnrichment
  125. hopefully, before she's out of earshot, I say, "when might I be able to enter the basement safely?"
  126. @DM
  127. "I would wait until you find the door open!"
  128. genousEnrichment
  129. huh. Mother knows best, and she spent plenty of time throughout my life proving that statement to be very true, so I'll listen to her judgment
  130. genousEnrichment
  131. I head back upstairs and decide to go outside, since I've had my fill of Q-&-A for now
  132. might as well get to know this dreary place I'll be calling home
  133. @DM
  134. i think this is enough, we'll pick back up in play by post
