Hello,

My name is Patrick and I am planning the Hitler Birthday Party for April 17th, 2010 in the Chicago area.  I attended Nordic Fest in 2006, and was impressed by the security and hopsitality that you guys showed.  I watched Gangland on the History Channel last night, which was the first I had heard if the IKA since the guilty verdict (you know what I'm talking about), and was again impressed by the level of intelligence and professionalism shown, especially in comparison with the episode after, which was about some Mexican gang in Texas.  This brings me to my main point.  Would it be possible to have Ron Edwards as a guest speaker at our event?  If so, what would it take to get him here?  Gas money reimbursement, hotel/homestay, etc? We are looking for a "diversity" of speakers (haha), and so far have a Creator, CI minister, a National Socialist, and would like to have a Klansman as well.  I'm looking forward to your answer.

     For many years, despite having a foreign resident population, the German people and government tried to deny that they were a country of immigrants.  This all changed in 1999-2000 when the government changed the citizenship laws to allow many who were born in Germany to receive a German passport.  However, immigration is not something that began in ‘99-’00 but rather many years before.  They have had an effect on the culture, food (doner kabap recently replaced Wurst as the number one fast food meal), and even the language.  It is the linguistic aspect that will be focused on here.  This paper will not be a debate on immigration in Germany but rather to prove a simple purpose: that Gastarbeiter have made a significant contribution to the language and have in many cases developed a new dialect.
     The arrival and later assimilation(this is debated) of the Gastarbeiter is not the first time that Germany has experienced change in its language.  To understand the way the German language is today, one must understand its history, both linguistically and politically/militarily.  As far as we know, Germanic dialects have been around for around 1800 years or longer.  The earliest outside influence came from Latin, due to the proximity of their peoples and intermingling after the fall of Rome.  Examples of this include not only words, but ideas concerning words.  For example, the Latin word “suicide” is translated directly word-for-word into German as “selbst-mord”.  These Latin influences crossed into all German dialects, including the Anglo-Saxon dialect which eventually became English.  In the early modern period, French influences became more apparent, as Prussia accepted many Huguenot refugees and French culture was the Leitkultur.  Many French words slipped into the German vocabulary such as “Billet”, “Pommes”, “Damen”, and “Champignon”.  This persisted into the early 20th Century.  Beginning in the 1920s, American culture made its way to the world stage.  Despite a brief “intermission” during the NS period, many loan words now come from English, especially in the field of technology or music.  Many examples exist such as “gedownloaded”, “Hits”, “Prepaid”, “spam” and so on.  There are also terms which originate from English but have been Germanified, such as “high-fuenf” (I have really heard that before).  Some say that the German language is in decline, but the anglicisms today are no more threatening than French terms 200 years ago.
     At the end of the Second World War, Germany was in a state of ruin.  Many believe that due to this ruined economy, that there were no foreigners on German soil, besides the occupying armies.  However, quite the contrary is true.  During the war, Germany had recruited many workers from all over Europe to replace those that were serving on the front.  Most of these workers left after the war.  There were also many forced laborers from Eastern Europe.  Many did not return to their home countries due to new Communist governments.  There were also Nazi collaborators which could not return home due to death penalties that would be imposed, such as members of the Waffen SS or the Croatian Ustashe.  These were the first foreign settlers after the war.
     During the 1950s, Germany was trying to rebuild its infrastructure.  Due to the war, many of Germany’s young people were either killed or disabled, which required the Labor Ministry to look elsewhere to fulfill its needs.  First they looked to their former allies, with the first workers coming from Italy in 1955, and Spain and Greece in 1960.  When these countries could not fulfill the need, Germany looked to Middle Eastern countries such as Turkey (a former ally), Tunisia, Morocco, and other European countries such as Portugal and Yugoslavia.  The recruitment stopped in 1973, but the flow of people did not.  When it became clear that these workers were going to stay for the long term, many invited their families and began to learn German (although integration was discouraged because it was believed that these workers were temporary).
     Gastarbeiterdeutsch developed in the 60’s and 70’s as these workers struggled to learn German. They usually lived, and still live, in segregated districts and had little contact with native Germans.  This meant that they usually spoke the language with other non-native speakers, and certain elements of their own languages seeped into their German.  Since this time, many linguists have tried to analyze this interesting and complex mode of speech.
     The first study in this case was done by Inken Keim in the late 1970’s.  She used three conversations with Turkish immigrant families for analysis.  One of the first things noticed is the absence of articles or prepositions.  Examples of this include, “gehe ich Schwimmbad…” instead of “ich gehe zum Schwimmbad“ (Keim 12). The second most common thing noticed almost immediately with Familie Eins is that their answers are usually very short at first, often with a simple yes or no answer.  As the conversation goes deeper, there are other noteworthy features which they exhibit.  While some mistakes are only exhibited by one or two members of the family, one that seems pretty consistent is conjugation.  It seems that the infinitive of the verb is almost always used, the exception being the younger children, which go to German schools.  An example of this is when the father speaks, “Ich sprechen und dann des machen…ich Schreiben aber nix mehr ganze Schreiber “ (16).  In comparison with family two, another consistency is the inability to pronounce “ch”.  Rather, they often replace it with the “x” sound.  The third familie seems to be a combination of the two, but they seem to be more integrated into German society despite being there only a short time.

The concert is this weekend and I leave friday night.  I thought you started school in April, but March isnt bad.  How's your German progressing?  Probably better than mine, as I have Brain and dont get to talk much.  Anyway,  the untamed slavic lands will include czechia and Poland for sure, but I'm also considering Serbia, as I know people who know people there.  Frau Barbe flew Air India to Frankfurt once, she said the service is terrible and the food gives you bad gas, but you get what you pay for, kinda like Aerlingus.  I've been keeping my Bartlett job, its not so great right now but its getting me by.  I only work fridays and sundays right now, but I'm not going anywhere for spring break so maybe I can pick up a few extra shifts.  Oh yeah, I have knighted yet another German for our list and Steve and I came up with rules for the knighting at lunch today.  He/She must be a person you do not know (and will most likely not see again) and helps you with a situation. They must also be German.  With that in mind, I have decided to give this guy who gave me directions in Berlin as Cool German Number Two.  Not sure when exactly I will be in Hamburg as I am still in the planning stages, but we shall speak about it.

hey, whats going on? is your phone number still the same? i tried calling this summer.  Just wanted to know hows business going and has anything interesting been happening.  I also wanted to know if maybe you could find me a job in prague for next summer.  I was hoping to work abroad in between my college studies.  eric is doing pretty well, he is at a different college.  My first day at college I got drunk at a frat party and woke up in a field behind my building and the cops dragged me to my dorm.  Ron has also been doing quite well.  Take care..............

that's cool you finally went to Spain.  I dont get why you immediately think of me though.  You probably have your reasons.  Wow, when we were in Prague, you said you didnt like it, but hey sometimes places have to grow on you (lot of french apeaking jobs there by the way).  Yeah I've been buried in papers too, I think I will get 3 Bs and a D.  I don't really care about the D cause its an elective and the teacher sucked BALLS.  Now that I'm 21, no one IDs me, which meant I could have gone to more clubs earlier, but whatever, I'm not the club type.  Yeah most people from California are idiots, on the day of the rope, she will hang for treason, or better yet put her in a room with gypsies for a few hours and let her cunt be filled with gypsy cum.  Steve has been buried in work, havent talked to him much.  His girlfriend got some Shakespeare quote tattooed on her shoulder blade this weekend.  I went to this Hitler memorial this weekend with some friends and the old SS veteren was cool like always.  As far as making beer, if I get enough money over the holidays, I know a store in St. Charles that sells beer kits.  Probably not though, as tips arent as good as the summer. Its been a while since I heard that. Finals haven't started yet for me but they're coming up! I've got one more solid week of classes and then the following week i have finals from the 17th to the 19th. Which are going to be 3 days of hell. So wish me luck. I have been up to my neck in papers but i think its finally come to an end. Now i just gotta catch up on all the bullshit reading. I leave for the fatherland the 22nd. It will be a magical german christmas for me and I can't wait!

As far as updates go, hmm did I tell you I went to spain?! it was great! its beautiful and really cheap compared to France so that was nice. I actually tried my hand at speaking the basics in spanish. But get this, and bare in mind that I thought of you Instantly, we took a train from Avignon to Barcelona, me and some other americans. Between traveling and having to kill 2 hours between trains just at the border, the whole trip takes about 8 hours. So we got to the border and there was a nice restaurant. We had a friend who speaks spanish and so he ordered our food for us. In a style known only to the Spanish, it took them over 1 hour to bring us our food. Our meal was not the challenging of tasks, nor was it time demanding what so ever. But they apparently needed an hour to bring it to us. I was discussing with others that the country would increase they're productivity tremendously if they didnt take a national institutionalized nap. Like for instance the crazy church that has taken over a hundred years to build. It was an interesting experience to say the least. But nothing could ever compare to Prague or the Kutna hora bone church, not by a long shot.

OH so get this! I was talking to this girl from California, one is a hardcore, we should love everyone, type! And she started argueing with me about why I can't generalize about Gypsies and how they're people too and just because some gypsies steal, doesn't mean that they all steal. I tried my best with the example of canda vs the Czech republic but there are just some people who aren't going to listen. So esentially I was made to look like the bad person for not appreciating gypsies. So I thought to myself, well alright, when one is stealing from you, you can explain to that gypsie that not all gypsies are bad and see where that gets you.

So you're grades weren't that great? are you going to graduate on time? Hows steve these days?? Hows the business adventure looking? Oh and did you ever start making your own beer or liquer in your bathtub??
