Let me weave you a tale of a time before the world of pokemon. In the beginning there was nothing but before that...there were pokemon, not pokemon like you and me know, ancient primordial pokemon representing fundamental forces of the universe and among them was the pokemon you know as Arceus, representing creation. They stood for eons as the top of the pyramid, living in a world before the universe as we know it. Then...all of a sudden BOOM, the big bang happened and through this explosion some of their number was destroyed, scattered as shards across this new universe and these pokemon that had only ever known an endless void suddenly found themselves thrust into a universe full of light and life. Many hated it and retreated to the very edges of the universe, while others like arceus explored to experience all this new place had to offer.

Soon afterwards, arceus found the primordial earth, just now teeming with the very beginnings of the creatures we would begin to call pokemon, so he took what was there and...well you already know what happened, time, space, distortion, and all other creatures came to be. However...unknown to arceus, a shard of a particularly ornery primordial pokemon now existed at the deepest part of the sea through the artifact known as the abyssal gem. This gem latched onto a nearby serpent-like pokemon and the very earliest ancestor of serbyss was born, over time the serpent grew in size, becoming colossal and full of psychic energy, it began to crave dominion over all the oceans and challenged kyogre for the right to rule. However...this new serpent was far too young and knew not enough about it's powers and against the Primordial Fury of Kyogre in it's prime, it was cast down deep into the abyss, it's gem taken from it and hidden to make sure it's true power would never be unleashed again.

It's descendants became the the mysterious Psychic/Water pokemon Serbyss and Presspent and over time, the knowledge of the primordial pokemon became all but forgotten but to the most hidden and secret corners of this universe, some of their children still exist here or there, among them are the ancient dragon Eternatus and the Ultra Beasts and many more undiscovered and unknown entities across this place we call home. That's all for now, but remember this: nothing is as it seems in this world of ours.
