  1. Welcome to the InterSect.
  2.
  3. On the 12th of March, 2019, the server was created with the aim of providing a positive, empowering community for intersectional advocates, gamers, writers, creators and roleplayers who enjoy MUDs, MUSH, RPI, play-by-post forums and other text-based online media.
  4.
  5. You do not have to identify as a member of any marginalised group in order to take part in this server. You just have to identify with our shared humanity, and see the benefit of a community that aspires towards inclusion and empathy across the broad spectrum of human identities and experiences.
  6.
  7. We aim to foster a more welcoming environment within the games we play for those most commonly targeted by harassment and identity-based dehumanisation. The server helps to connect players in various games with partners they can trust to be respectful and supportive, as well as offering a safer, kinder OOC hangout.
  8.
  9. If you have just joined, please review the #rules.

  13. 1. Listen
  14.
  15. People come here to share experiences they may not feel comfortable doing elsewhere. Try not to express judgement, doubt, blame, or anything else that might make them less comfortable doing so. This community exists for support and constructive discussion, not for heated debate.
  16.
  17. 2. Be Patient
  18.
  19. No one in this world is perfect nor entirely free from bias, and this community is no exception. Assume everyone is doing the best they can. If you were invited here, it means someone here vouched for your intentions, and recognised within you an ability to empathise with others on this server. Misunderstandings will sometimes happen, but go from this baseline when dealing with confrontation. If you are unable to, please tag or DM @Moderators.
  20.
  21. 3. Be Kind
  22.
  23. Please avoid the use of stereotype slurs on this server. This can be difficult to police, because some slurs may be used by its targets in order to reclaim the meaning or mock its usage against them. As a general rule of thumb, if someone asks you not to use a word that affects them, don't.
  24.
  25. 4. Be Considerate
  26.
  27. Try to keep things light and positive on this server, or else within appropriate channels (#politics, #life-stuff). This server exists as an escape from much of the negativity we face, even if without it we likely wouldn't be here. When broaching more serious topics that may be a source of uncomfortable reexperiencing for some members, use trigger warnings, content notes, or else use coded, non-graphic language to convey your meaning without unnecessary detail.
  28.
  29. 5. Safety First
  30.
  31. Do not ask for nor offer advice that should be the realm of a medical professional. No one in this server is qualified to diagnose you, nor assist in a crisis situation. We cannot keep your confidence if we suspect you to be in mortal peril. In such situations, we will contact and cooperate with emergency services in your area.
  32.
  33. 6. Keep Confidentiality
  34.
  35. Please respect the privacy of other members of this server. Avoid disclosing any personal information about them without their explicit consent. This includes the identities of any characters they may be playing on any games, their age and so on. Don't share conversations from this server, especially not via copy & paste, with any non-members without the express consent of all parties involved. People share deeply personal information here and it's important not to violate this trust. See #5 for the one exception to this rule.
  36.
  37. 7. Verify Invites
  38.
  39. Anyone who supports intersectional equalities and has an interest in text-based online roleplay is welcome in this community, so long as they can engage in good faith and be trusted to abide by our rules. Before inviting someone to the server, please tag @Moderators in the #guest-channel letting people know you've vouched for them. They will be denied access to our private channels and eventually discharged if we're unable to verify them.
