Ashfur  half  closed  his  eyes,  his  expression  fixed  in  concentration. Instantly Bramblestar’s head jerked and his ears pricked up as if he had heard a call that Shadowsight could not. He padded all the way to the edge of the island, to where a narrow muddy path stretched across the dark water to the mainland. A dark gray tabby tom sat on guard at the far end, and rose to his paws as Ashfur called out to him.
“Let him pass, Darkstripe.
”The  dark  gray  tabby  tom  dipped  his  head  and  stepped  back  to  let Bramblestar pass along the path and join Ashfur and Squirrelflight. At first Shadowsight hoped that might be a good thing, but as he halted in front of Squirrelflight, Bramblestar showed no sign of recognition, and his eyes were still blank.
