This is the film that cemented Schwarzenegger's spot in the action-brawn firmament, and it was well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg who kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and all the more creepy. But don't overlook the contributions of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor--thus creating, along with Sigourney Weaver in Alien, a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. It's surprising how well this film holds up, and how its minimalist, malevolent violence is actually way scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel.

Easter eggs:
1) On Side A of the disk, go to languages, scroll down to French and go RIGHT. It will highlight a small box along the frame of the slide. Hit Enter and you can watch a small Behind The Scenes clip.
2) On the movie disc side, if you select and play title track 2, a strange little string of stills will run along with audio commentry on how they had to replace the Hispanic boy at the end of the movie.
3) On the Special Features side, if you select "DVD-ROM Features", you go to another blurb. At the bottom, by the "Main Menu" options, hit your arrow key up and the base little border square will turn green. Select OK and another string of stills will run with commentary on the HK's.
4) On SIDE A got the the LANGUAGES then highlight FRANCAIS and hit RIGHT. A green dot will show up click on it.
5) Similar to the feature on the Special Features side, on the movie side of the DVD, under special features, choose DVD ROM features. If you hit the right arrow from the bottom selection on a regular DVD player, it highlights the bottom square on the grid above the menu items and tells you a little about how Bill Paxton and friends were chosen for the punk scene (~10 seconds worth of material).
6) On the A side, go to scene selection. Page over to scenes 13-16. Arrow down until the green box lights in the top border and hit enter and there's a commentary regarding extra dialogue. Follow the same procedure for scenes 25-28 and there's a commentary with Jim Cameron on Stan Winston's FX. Same deal with scenes 29-32 with a commentary from Cameron on Cyborgs in general.
7) On the A side, go to special features and select then arrow down until the green box lights at the top. There's a commentary with Brad Fiedel on sound effects. After this is over, hit enter on DVD-ROM features then arrow RIGHT until the green box lights at the bottom of the border. Hit enter and you'll have Stan Winston commenting on FX.

This DVD has been pressed twice, the first pressing was presented as a single DVD-18 two-sided Disc, with the movie on one side and the features on another. The first pressings were packaged in an embossed metal case. Current pressings are of the two-disc DVD-9 variety in a 2-Disc Amaray (Keep) Case with a Cardboard Slip-Case, However, the later 2-Disk DVD9s was also in the metal case for the first print run.
Disc 2 also has a start-up trailer for the Artisan website.


Easter eggs:
Insert the Side/Disc that contains the feature presentation and from the Disc's Main Menu, select "Special Edition" which brings up a dedicated Menu to access the film's Special Edition Cut. On the right hand side of the panel you will notice some weird, unreadable symbols that will give you access to the hidden feature - actually they are roman numbers. Take your remote control and press the key combination "82997" - the date of Judgment Day in the movie - and the symbols on the side should change to the text "The Future Is Not Set". If they don't, please make sure to press the "Enter" key on your remote control after every one of the digits. Once correctly entered, the eyes of the endoskeleton will light up and you will see a new menu entry appearing, giving you access to the "Extended Special Edition" Version of the movie with the alternate ending and other scenes integrated in the film.

Insert the Second Side/Disc of the DVD and bring up the main menu. Don't touch any buttons, and every 30 seconds, the Disc cycles through one of three different 'breaks' - in the first the lower left hand corner flickers with lightning and the words "Join The Resistance" appear. Select it and you will find a Weblink that takes you to Artisan's Website. The second break is a small head of Beethoven, which will take you to the original Swelltone Trailer, and the most impressive, third break comes in the shape of the T-1000. His head will morph out of the center of the screen and say "Get Out!"
