  1. The date is Eleint 17, 1107.
  2. Kolohost has just been summoned to the Elder Fields, where the most senior of the planar gate guardians dwell. For one such as him without the proper ranking to enter, to be called here is a rarity, unheard of. As he slips between the threads of reality, between the planes and into the domain of the Elders, he feels a sense of anticipation for what could be in store.
  3. Krumorn stands at the edge of a cliff, the surroundings bleak and barren. Like a wasteland, even the sky looks dead as the clouds hang with a murky grey. He doesn't move an inch when he speaks. "Kolohost. You've come."
  4.
  5. Kolohost would recognize the figure, let alone the voice, as that of one of the few elders who are in charge of his training and study on his duties. A talented few with responsibilities that go beyond that of the normal world. This one in particular is Krumorn, the eladrin sage. All you know in particular about him is his limitless knowledge and his equally great patience.
  6.
  7. Kolohost bows to his superior, "Yes Lord Krumorn. Uhm..." He hesitates, his curiosity, worry and need to show respect all warring inside him. Kolohost was inwardly very happy Krumorn wasn't facing him. "Sir... May I ask why I'm here?"
  8.
  9. Krumorn continues, rubbing his chin facing away. "Yes, yes. To bring one as inexperienced as you to this place. The others were quite against it." He gestures at the horizon, the seemigly dead, stilless sea past the cliff. "Do you see this place? Where only the most esteemed dwell? Does it not look... ill?"
  10.
  11. Kolohost looks out into the desolate distance more intently, now that Krumorn is also drawing attention to it. "If they were against it, I rather fear what it is you want to ask of me," he says softly, eyes travelling to the sky, before stating honestly, "It looks dead sir, or at least certainly on its way there. Is it always so?"
  12.
  13. Krumorn is silent for a time, only the wind's frigid howl in place. After a moment he speaks again, "Something is coming to our world. Something that wishes to erase all life, and have not only us, but all of the planes perish as well. We've been observing the signs, but now... events have begun taking place. Look." As he tilts his head to the sky, you see far, far, far off in the horizon a black spot in the clouds. Like an omen of the future, the dark abyss within the clouds in the distance appear to move, shifting but unseen behind its cover. "Something from the outer cosmos comes, and a fragment of it has already arrived. Just this small, miniscule fragment, tainted with an immeasurable amount of Negative Energy has already poisoned the Material Plane with its presence."
  14.
  15. Kolohost listens, frowning as Krumorn tells him of the threat. He steps forward, closing what Kolo had deemed a respectable distance, as he cranes his neck to look into the abyss of sky above. "And... you believe that dark spot is... shattering?" he guesses, thinking of a planetary version of a splitting arrow. "If... if a single small fragment can do so much damage... how do the Guards intent to remove the threat? From what you've said, I don't believe anything could get close to it..." Kolo drifts off, unhappy and worried, not for himself, but for the fact he feels he can do nothing and for the planes he will be forced to watch rot before the negative energy envelops his own life too.
  16.
  17. Krumorn closes his eyes, turning around, he opens them to look at you. "Mm. That is why... I summoned you here. To task you with the duty of investigating the shard that fell, and stop it from corrupting the Material Plane any further. And furthermore, to find out how to stop the being it split off of from destroying us all. The shard's energy alone has already begun leaking into the Ethereal Plane, and threatens to go even further and enter the Feywild. Eventually, unhindered, everything will be enveloped in its aura of death."
  18.
  19. Kolohost directs his attention back to Krumorn, this time to his face, taking in the sage's features as well as his words. "Me?" Kolo feels his heart swell with pride. This was a momentous task, but also, he doubted. There were any number of Guards that would be better equiped for the task, but then, they would probably be needed should Kolo fail. He nodded, schooling his features into determination. "Yes, sir. I'll do my best."
  20.
  21. Krumorn continues, "Very well. I shall work with the other Guardians to do what we can from our end to slow the being's arrival. For now, I will open a Gate at the nearest area of civilization to the shard. This is a dangerous task, and the fate of not only one world rests on your shoulders. Do not think it must be so, should you find allies you can trust, remember they can assist." With that, he extends a hand, the air distorting before him before sucking in on itself to form a Gate. He gives you a nod.
  22.
  23. Kolohost listens to Krumorn's council, nodding to show he understands. He's thankful Krumorn suggests enlisting help, for Kolo is certain he won't be able to process all the data alone, and sees Krumorn's suggestion more as permission to share his task. He watches the sage as a portal is formed and, at the nod, steps into it without a thought. Kolo hasn't done it as much as some, but he enjoys the feeling of passing through Gates. A quiet nothingness, and yet also a wash of colours, sensations. Kolo finds it a sort of tranquil warning before the full brunt of the new plane strikes him like iron to the gut.
  24.
  25. Krumorn watches Kolohost enter the gate, before disappearing from view as it closes. The corner of his mouth turns up slightly, a private smirk. "I place my faith in you, young Kolohost." He glances back at the encroaching darkness on the horizon, before walking off, into the distance.
  26. (To Kolohost): You'll exit the gate outside the village of Bricklemoor, where the first session will start.
  27.
  28. Session End.
