- Writing Section: fourth and final section, after speaking; two tasks
- 1 integrated: 3 minutes to read a passage, listen to a lecture on the same topic, 20 minutes to write about the points from the lecture and how they relate to the points from the reading
- 2 independent: read a choice question prompt, 30 minutes to write and support your answer
- ---
- Two types of choice question:
- - agree/disagree: “Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? _______”
- - some people / other people: “Some people think _____. Others think _____. Which do you think?”
- DELTA p. 416 has some examples of both types of question.
- ---
- The prompt always ends with: “Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.”
- ---
- Your response should be about 5 paragraphs and (to get a good score) at least 300 words.
- 1: Introduction - Explain what the topic is that you’re writing about, then state your opinion.
- 2-4: Body (supporting arguments)
- 5: Conclusion - Restate your opinion and reasons, then wrap up with a recommendation or prediction for the future
- ---
- Body Paragraphs need to do three main things:
- - State your reasons for believing your opinion. (e.g. people don’t know how to use a library any more)
- - Show that these resons are true. (e.g. you took your brother to a library and he was clueless)
- - Show that these reasons really support your opinion. (Explain how this means he’s lazier.)

- p. 403: “The best things in life do not cost money.”
- Introduction:
- People all over the world spend their whole lives trying to get better jobs and more money so they can buy more things. However, many people wonder if it’s really necessary to have so much money in order to have a good life. In my opinion, money is not necessary to enjoy the most important things in life: enjoying nature, staying healthy, and spending time with family and friends.
- Supporting points:
- - Pick three things and argue (1) that they don’t cost money and (2) that they are among the most important things in life.
