Too late, Baan realized his mistake. He looked up but the Chandra he had been so evenly mocking was gone, replaced by Dimir guildmaster and shapeshifter Lazav, using an Izzet flamethrower to complete the illusion. Before he could recalculate, Lazav unleashed—not more flames, which Baan had been prepared for, but two small throwing stars of a peculiar metal that sliced through Dovin Baan’s spells of protection and struck the vedalken right in his eyes, throwing a serious crimp into his ability to detect weakness in others.

Blinded and bleeding, Dovin Baan screamed.
