- Welcome to Summerford
- ---------------------
- Humanity is warming itself at the fire which is burning our society down.
- We've all found ways to come to terms with that recently. When the news moved
- off our screens and onto our doorsteps, we all had to face our own realities.
- It's like our culture had to suddenly drop acid and stare directly into the
- mirror. It's unpleasant at first, but if you can hold on and own it, it
- can be enlightening, too.
- I didn't make my horror game, Summerford, whose demo is out on November
- 7th, as a response to the Coronavirus, but the thing about horror is that
- engaging in dark media during dark times can actually be an illuminating force.
- There's a comfort in the subversion of expectation; a joy in engaging in a
- consensual feeling of isolation after being stuck between four walls against
- our own will.
- As we move towards Halloween, I think horror has an important role to play.
- At it's best, horror helps us to understand the primal experience of being
- alive. Fear is programmed to demand attention like nothing else. And, if
- nothing else, here at least is an excuse for a national holiday that's
- more about a feeling and a moment than it is about capitalism. Which is
- handy, as our demo is completely free.
- Summerford isn't a game that pretends to have an answer the worlds
- problems, or shine light on how to fix them. Hopefully though, our
- demo will give you something to take your mind off them for a short while:
