How they met: They've known each other since they were babies. Background: Jung Ariel was born as Jung Soon Eui in Busan, South Korea. Her name was later legally changed from Soon Eui to Ariel. She was the only child born to her parents, a teacher and a housewife. She lived in a very nice neighbourhood In Busan, and in infancy befriended another baby across the street, Kang Eui Geon (later to change his name to Kang Daniel). They would be friends for a lifetime. Ariel took singing lessons and sang in the church choir since she was 2 years old, and singing was always a big part of her. She lived a fairly normal life until she was about 10 years old, when her dad was called to move to Israel for work. And thus began a series of moves for Ariel (and lots of language learning). She and her family moved to Tel Aviv, where she learned Hebrew, and stayed there for two years until she was 12. Then they were called to Saint Petersburg, Russia (where she learned Russian and took some figure skating lessons), and they stayed there another 2 years. When she was 14, they moved to New York, USA. Ariel really settled in there and learned how to speak English fluently (she'd learned a little English in Israel and Russia, but was able to truly fine-tune it and speak it with confidence in the USA). She performed in all the musicals at her high school. After starring as Belle in a production of Beauty and the Beast when she was 17, she was noticed by an SM casting agent. After the show, the agent recommended that she attend the SM Entertainment Global Audition in New York later that year. Ariel spoke with her parents about it, and they supported her decision. She attended the audition, singing My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, and passed. Ariel was sad to leave her family behind, but was excited to pursue her career, and even more excited to finally reunite with her longtime friend Daniel, who she hadn't seen in so long.
