"Is she still here? What room is she in?"
"I can't give you that information."
"Can't you? You won't know until you try. Is that where it's written down? In that ledger there?"
Greg picked up a thick black ledger and placed it on a shelf behind him. "No," he said.
"You're a bad liar, Greg."
"You should leave."
"Fine."
Valkyrie went to the door, glancing back at Greg who was eying her suspiciously. She stepped outside. It was like stepping into soup - really, really hot soup. She glanced back again as the door began to close, watching Greg had back into the room behind the reception desk.
She reached her hand out, connected with the stifling air, found the links between the spaces, and the black ledger flew off the shelf towards her. She caught it and started walking, the door finally shutting behind her.
